Buying a Sub for my pair of K12s

Jumbo650 10:16 PM - 22 February, 2012
I am debating in buying:

2 QSC kw181 (would match my K12s)
1 Yorkville ls801pb (heard this pounds and in most cases you need 1 not 2)

any input would be very help full.

Thanks

BTW
I can get the QSC KW181 for about 1050 each Brand New.
and the Yorkville LS801pb for 1100 brand new

where are you getting that kw181 brand new just asking?

Go with the KW181's. You honestly can't go wrong with those and you can multiply as much as you want to create every system from a simple wedding set up to a concert system (which i've done with 10 of them.)

Shop around a bit more man, if you know the right guys you should be able to get the Kw181's for $999 a piece

The Yorkville LS801pb walks all over the KW181 but quite heavier...countinous 134db (140db peak) vs KW181 131db max

if you got help / the right van/tools the LS801PB will never run out of juice...it's louder

The horn will help your bass travel further and the yorkie has a 700rms 105db sensitive 18" driver vs the KW181 18" driver that's 600rms and 95db sensitive.

so the yorkie will sound way louder any given day...but break your back faster especially if you usually gig by your self.

for guys like me who work by them selves KW181 is the way to go...if u got help...Yorkie is the truth

Thanks guys. Ended up going with the kw181. Weight was a big influence. I wanted the yorkie because the price if 1 is a lot cheaper then 2 kw181 and because all the bass you can get out of it. But it is heavy as hell. I got the kw181s from zzounds for 2100 for the pair brand new.

That's not a bad price. You did fine and will have plenty of bass.

The yorkie is the truth but again, you need the means to move it. Not a reality for some people.

I did the same thing a while ago. Bought 2 RCF718 subs because I could move them by myself. Unfortunatly spent more money at the time b/c I had no way of transporting the yorkie. Fast forward a year and a half later, have a cargo van that I can easily keep the yorkie in and sold off the RCFs and got the yorkie. Will be getting a 2nd soon too.

That's a good set up. Had my pair of rcf art312a stolen about 2 years ago. Almost brand new. Loved them and wanted to get a pair again but I got a sweet deal from zzounds on brand new k12s that I could not pass. And yes the kw181 is a very nice sub. But if I had the means to move the yorkie I would not hesitate in getting one.

Great deal. I have Kw12s and just bought the KW181... for $1200 :( smh smh. One man crew here so no yorkies

or would 2 TH118 do the trick, they seem real loud and give a real meaning to the definition of a subwoofer with their depth

I ain't gon' lie... they are the truth. They're the best and most musical subs I've ever owned. 800 - 1500 people would require AT LEAST 4 subs. It depends on the music type played and how bass hungry you are. I did a crowd of 700 people with just 2 TH-118s. I was monitoring those levels on the 2 and didn't clip or stress the subs but 3 would have been perfect. When I bring out the Danleys, I have to take in consideration the ceiling components and light fixtures. I've done 3 gigs with 2 or a single TH-118 and have had tile railings, recessed light cans, incandescent bulbs and AC grills fall from ceilings due to the bass they produce.
