After some hassle of installing ableton 8 and with it the bridge I immediately ran into some problems.

First of all there is the glitch that you have to open SSL first and then live otherwise it won't route the audio output properly. Then When I play my clips in SSL they are never in sync although the beatgrids on the Live and SSL tracks are identical. I have to nudge and (now it gets funny) the nudge buttons disappear everytime I push SYNC1 or SYNC2. Then I have to disable ableton and enable again for them to reappear.

Most importantly though SSL won't show the beatgrid. I analyzed 10,000 tracks which took a whole night. It still didn't show BPM marks on most tracks although I had 'set bpm' enabled. I then had to manually drag in files into the deck in offline mode for it to calculate a beatgrid. When I hooked in my SL3 it still didn't show beatgrids on some of these tracks which made ableton unable to sync, although I could use the autoloop function...

I have no clue what the matter is, I've searched all forums with no results. I'm really dissapointed at this point. I have always praised and promoted SSL for it was a 'working' system that you could rely on. Now it's just getting noodly again like all the rest and I'm thinking of selling my gear and moving to Traktor. Although I hate native instruments!! They have major software problems, at least from my experience with their production tools and I really don't want to spend more money with them but at this point I am really frustrated.

Any help is really appreciated!

Hi Peter Braun,

Im sure we can sort this issue out for you. Did you have a trial version (or other) of Ableton Live installed before installing Ableton Live 8?

Do the beatgrids on your tracks appear in the offline player? (Rane SL 3 disconnected).

Thanks :)

Hi Peter, supongo que si, pero... ¿Tienes activado the bridge en serato, setup, pluguins?

Peter Braun 1:41 PM - 7 February, 2012
Hey martin, thanks for offering your help. Yes I did have a trial version of ableton live 7 installed before but deleted all app files inc. plists, app support, etc.

The beatgrids do appear in the offline player but hide in hardware mode although auto loop is available...

Also I had to load my tracks manually in offline mode for SSl to create them and don't want to repeat this for the rest of my 10,000 tracks.

Thanks Hai btw but would be cool if you could answer in english, google translate doesn't get me the gist of what you said : )

Hi Peter,

I am unsure what you mean exactly when you say that you had to load the tracks manually in offline player? Does this mean that you had to re-analyze all of your files for them to have beatgrids/bpms/overviews etc?

Can you try deleting the Scratch Live preference file?

• Close all programs.
• Go to the User > Library > Preferences
• And delete the file named: "com.serato.scratchlive.plist". NOTE: Do NOT use Finder's search function to find these files. The search index of OS X does not keep track of any files which are located inside the library folders, so you won't find them. Please navigate to these files manually by following the exact paths.

Are any of your music files stored on an external drive?
Peter Braun 4:45 PM - 8 February, 2012
What I mean is that there are no beatgrids at all. I have to disconnect the hardware, literally 'Load' a track into the offline player for it to create a beatgrid for that track.

plists didn't work either

Oh I see, that is really strange. Thanks for the video.

So is this happening to ALL your files, or just some of the files?

If a file that is not loaded from the iTunes library via Scratch Live, does this function correctly?
Meaning, if you dragged a file over to your desktop, and then loaded that into Scratch Live, would the same things still happen?

Are you using an external drive?
Peter Braun 11:15 PM - 9 February, 2012
Yes, it's happening to all my files. Tried importing a track from desktop too, didn't do the trick. I am not using an external hard drive

Can you try right clicking on that particular file you moved to the desktop and selecting "Get Info"
Then check down the bottom and look at the permissions and ensure that you have "read and write" enabled for your user account.
Peter Braun 1:53 PM - 10 February, 2012
yes, I have permission over my files...

Ok could you please try repairing disk permissions with the disk utility?

To do this go to Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility and click "repair disk permissions" with your main drive selected.

Ok could you please try opening the "files" browser in Scratch Live offline player, and click "rescan ID3 tags"?

So now that you have run that file "Love on my mind" in the offline player, and it created the beatgrid, will it keep it from now on? Or will it lose the beat grid next time you open Scratch Live, and you will have to reload it in off line player again to bring it back?
Peter Braun 6:05 PM - 13 February, 2012
No that didn't help either. The file didn't keep the beatgrid, although with some files I'm lucky and it does. I then have to reload in offline player to get it back. How come I'm the only one with this problem? Is there something wrong with my hardware?
phatbob 6:34 PM - 13 February, 2012
What format are your files? I haven't used it for a while but with older versions of SL I had a hell of a time trying to beatgrid AAC, Mp4 and ALAC files.

Mp3s were always fine though...
Peter Braun 7:52 PM - 13 February, 2012
I only use WAV, AIFF and rarely MP3. For me Serato is really just a vinyl replacement for those I don't have. No I wanted to replace my sampler by using ableton and it all goes wrong...
phatbob 8:01 PM - 13 February, 2012
Ok well that's quite unusual so hopefully that will help Martin narrow down the problem, anyway.

I'm guess your mp3 tracks all have no issue? You might want to check.
Peter Braun 8:28 PM - 13 February, 2012
no they have the same problem. Thanks for the hint though, could have been it

Hi Peter, it is pretty unusual and it is the first time I have come across it, but there is nothing wrong with your hardware. We should be able to get to the bottom of this eventually.

Are you able to attach one of the files you having trouble with to this thread so I could take a look?

Hmm strange, the beat grid comes up straight away for me with that track.

Alright lets try a couple of other things here:

Can you removing "The Bridge" then reinstalling it?

If you load a track to the deck without the grid, if you click "GRID EDIT" does the grid show up?

Can you try re-analyzing the file? Perhaps try re-analyzing about 20 or so of the problem files and see what happens too?

Another thing we could try is using an older version of Scratch Live to see if it is happening.

You can download older versions here: serato.com

If you rename your current Scratch Live installed to "Scratch Live 2.3.3" you will be able to install another version. I recommend trying 2.2.0 and perhaps 2.3.1.

Let me know how you get on :)
Peter Braun 2:48 PM - 14 February, 2012
How do I remove "the bridge"? Isnt it part of ableton? Should I reinstall ableton?
And how do I reanalyze files? When I highlight files and hit "analyze" it won't do anything.

When I click "edit grid" they don't show either btw.

Sorry, I meant can you try removing Scratch Live and reinstalling it.

To re-analyze files just drag and drop them onto the analyze files button. Maybe try just a couple of files to test at this stage rather than re-analyzing ALL files.

Also try another version of Scratch Live after you have tried that :)
Peter Braun 11:00 PM - 15 February, 2012
Fixed it. Reanalyzing did the job. Didn't know it was possible this way. Thanks a billion Martin, saved me a lot of time here!

Awesome to hear! Unsure why this happened in the first place, but great to know that re-analyzing worked.

Feel free to post back up if you ever require any other assistance :)
