Pitch Control Issues Technics 1200 MK2

TheProphecy 4:42 PM - 5 January, 2012
Peace y'all...

I am writing to ask if anyone has experienced any issues with the pitch control on the Technics 1200 MK2. Last night as I was spinnin', I noticed the pitch was not working properly. Once the pitch is centered (green light on), I get normal speed output. But once I move the pitch left to right (or up/down for others), the pitch is out of whack.

Any ideas on how to fix or must I i go inside the turntable & replace the entire pitch?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like it could be some dirt/dust in the Pitch slide pot, I wouldnt spray any tuner cleaner in there, I would jsuggest spray pressured air in to try to blow out any dust and work the slider up & down. <<< (no misquote) lol. I had that happen to me before & I ended up getting the pitch slider replaced. The cleaning kept it usable for a while though.

Aww come on guys - this very same question has been asked on the forum thousands of time before.

The pitch can go off whack over time drift...try searching 'pitch drift' here or maybe, if you're feeling ambitious..try hitting up youtube. There's tons of videos out there showing you exactly how to recalibrate your pitch.

It's all StevenWayne..lol...apparently there is Serato Forum Police.

Thanks for the response DjDynasty! Much appreciated. Imma try that out tonight..if all else fails, might need to perform surgery on the 1200s.

Ah, by the way, my turntables are placed in this manner: www.rane.com

So, I'll move the pitch left to right as I make an attempt to fix ...lol

Bro...you been posting since 2007! haha.

no harm done TheProphecy...hope you get it sorted...if not, on a serious tip, give the search function a go...there's plenty of cats that have had similar problems and many threads troubleshooting this exact problem.

Peace.

More than likely it's gonna be part 1 though

2Seven: Good looking out on these videos. Tried the air pressure thang with no luck. It really looks like I will need to replace the damn pitch...will definitely scope out the methods you provided. Real talk though....I searched but some of the threads are off the wall with no specific answers, ya feel me?

Peace yo..

DO NOT replace the pitch...give method 2 a chance. like I said, the pitch can wobble with time. Is it that the pitch doesn't line up with the number on the slider, or is it that you have more than one 0 point?

The whole pitch slider rarely needs replacing.
TheProphecy 2:16 AM - 6 January, 2012
The pitch lines up perfectly on the 0 point. My issue is that i get the same speed at -8 & +8...sht is a trip.
renzosm 1:30 PM - 6 August, 2013
I am having issues also with this problem. it aligns perfectly on 8 and if I go -8 its shows alright in serato and also in the dots but if I go +8 it only marks +2.6/+3 only not +8 any ideas?

Hi there. Have also a pitch problem on my MK3D. When the fader on 1 is set on -4%, the Software shows it,s only -3,5%. The 2d one os OK. When -4% is shown as -4%. That happens only in the range of -3% to -5%, then it becomes OK in -8% it's -8%. The dots show the proper values. What is the problem and how to solve it?
lindsaymar 12:45 PM - 8 May, 2016
I've already followed the instructions on those videos. 0% & 6% now align perfectly (the decks only needed slight tweeking - 0% was always correct.)
Now the issue seems to be that the pitch value doesn't line up in a lot of positions outside of 6%.
So, for example, if I move my pitch fader 1% in certain places along the pitch fader the platter will speed up closer to 2%. One deck now goes to +10% but not in a smooth, consistent speed through the pitch range.

I'm thinking it's more likely a dust issue.
I'm going to blow-out the pitch faders and use some de-oxit.
Can anyone think of any reason that's a bad idea?

Hello all,

I'm facing a similar problem on one of my turntables. I have multiple 0 positions. Around -1% point, the platter turns at original speed. As I slow it down (move the slider up), it starts to slow down, but around the center of the pitch fader the light turns on and platter starts turning on original speed again. Upon passing thorugh the center, it starts to slow down again.

It's like as I move the fader up from -1% point, it starts slowing down, it makes a bump at the center and starts slowing down from where it was before reaching the center. Is this somethnig fixable?

Also I searched through the net but couldn't find a replacedment fader for sale for 1200 mk2. Do you know of any shop where I can order that?

replacement pitch faders can be found online, I had one that was sooo messed up that I took a drive out to Modesto to DJ Henray Customs. Had him replace a pitch fader on one, clean and tune both, and replace a grounding cable on the other 1200. Good luck.
