Surprisingly low turnout, not that we were expecting anything ridiculous, but lower than expected. Ended my set at 11:50 and was packed and ready to leave at 11:56. Turned on the TV and hung around until 12:30, got paid the same for an hour less than planned. Not mad.

not really EXACTLY what to play but like on new year's i played 2 niggas in paris and the crowd went nuts! 2 minutes later a bouncer came and told me politely "the manager said if you can take it easy on the hip hop" LOL so i stayed on 128 bpm's and just went down to the 100 bpm hip hop for a bit haha

I had a dope gig. House party which went great. Played old school hip hop, funk, freestyle and new stuff.

People got pissed because I mentioned I was leaving at 1:30am they wanted to keep the party going till' the morning. I had family to go see and chill with, so people understood and started applauding as we were leaving. Owner of the house was glad I came through and thanked me and my brother for making the party happened.
R-Tistic 4:25 AM - 3 January, 2012
It was going good-great til 12:40 when they made me cut the music LOW, like down to 10% of what it was low. And then I learned about how much drama it was to get up there...it was a three level penthouse at the top of a Downtown L.A. building, and I hear that after 11PM, the elevator "broke" so everybody had to walk up 14 flights of stairs....so girls walked in there PISSED, and it took a whole lot longer than it was supposed to for them to get in. AND they made each and every single person who came check in at the front desk and show their ID.

I hear that they made me cut it low b/c the police and manager of the building came to shut it down, and it was basically over at that point, although they let everyone stay and linger around until 1:30. I hated that I was ground level with a regular table, so everybody kept walkin up to me bothering the fuck out of me..."so why is the music low?" "when are you gonna turn it back up?" "can you play ______?" etc etc...and my boy who was "hosting" should have been talking to the crowd, but he was ghost and not talking to them at all, so it was just silence. Folks weren't too happy about it at that point.

Did an 80s night in Run DMC outfit. My roommate went as Madonna with the cone bra. My roommate is male with a big dark beard. Needless to say, he was one of the winners of the costume contest. Like R-tistic I had to shut down at 12:30 which is last call here on Saturdays.

$600 for murray hill is pretty good actually even on new years...
DJ Garebear 3:08 PM - 3 January, 2012
I didn't do any gigs :( but of course last second I got asked to do like 3 yet all of my equipment was 200 miles away, go figure lol
DJYoshi 3:12 PM - 3 January, 2012
both of my joints were cool... Copacabana was sold out till midnight...I think the final count was 1850 people for the ball drop... rocked till 2 then highline was crazy... around 1500 in there till close... tapped out then went home while others traveled uptown to Phucket which I heard Yonny was rockin hard till like 7/8
Blackdevil77 3:26 PM - 3 January, 2012
Mine gave me a head ache lol. Very small bar, and the crowd kept changing so the style of music kept changing. About 4 times actually lol. Around mid-night, it was packed, at around 1, place cleared out except so older folks, then some young people came in towards the end. At one point there was only about 6 people in the bar lol. Very up and down.
DJ Dynamite - NJ 4:32 PM - 3 January, 2012
My spot was packed, they actually sold too many advance tickets. Me and another DJ rocked til 6am then hung out with the owners, bartenders, cocktail waitresses and bouncers til around 8

I would've been pissed if I was one of the people that couldn't get in with an advanced ticket
DJ Dynamite - NJ 5:02 PM - 3 January, 2012
They got in. The good thing about it was that it was 2 venues right next to each other and advance tickets allowed you to go back and forth between both spots. Overselling the advance tickets just meant that nobody could pay admission at the door to get in.
Daktyl 5:13 PM - 3 January, 2012
Dynamite, you're in Brunswick right? You talking about Glo and Perle? i heard it was pretty crazy at both spots... i keep hoping to get a chance to see you spin one of these thursdays, glo is right around the corner from me.

Didn't Dj but the party I went to in San Diego was beyond WHACK!!!!!!!!! False advertising, long line to get in, just hot garbage...

Yeah, I was at Perle for NYE. It was pretty wild. Bouncers had to toss a couple for tryin to have sex in the club right in front of the DJ booth...LOL

that's actually a good thing to spin to a a sold out crowd. glo is a nice spot but small. i'll be there for a private event at the end of the month.
DJ Benny B NYC 6:38 PM - 3 January, 2012
i djed at a lounge in bk... capacity at 9:45 and they didnt let anyone in until after midnight. it was starting to cool down around 3:30 and i bounced at 4.

having a packed dancefloor for 5 1/2 hours is challenging, mostly because its hard not to play bangers when you have a full dancefloor, so i started out with motown and funk and stuff and didnt play any hip-hop or pop until 11:30 and people were tight! they kept asking me "are you going to play anything more contemporary?" (weird but two people actually said that) but im not gonna play bangers at 10:30...

We had some band "Mikey Rukus" open for me. Supposedly really big in making UFC intro's? The venue is basically a small concert venue (4 electrics for lighting... line array sound etc..). The sound engineer had doubts if they had ever heard the songs they were covering being as they were all out of key. Hearing the lead singer rap Nicki Minaj is something I could have lived without. Owners cut them short thank god... I mean what kind of live band shows up after the dj to open for the dj... Afterwards all was fine. Packed in about 1600 people all VERY responsive and danced their asses off. Got some pretty dope photos out of it as well so all in all one of the better NYE events I've ever done coming from such a small big city.
dj Wiseguy 10:25 PM - 3 January, 2012
Mine was intense....we were at capacity by 10:45 and was wall to wall all night....had a blast....got to play a lot of old school.....great night....great crowd of about 650 ppl......W.
Eric N 11:20 PM - 3 January, 2012
I played at a casino with one of the bands that I DJ for. We were told a few days prior that the show was sold out, so we were super stoked. When we got there, the opening band was playing to approximately 12 people. To make it worse, they were playing all of the shit on our set list and doing it terribly lol. Before I started working with these guys, I was oblivious to the whole "top40 cover band scene", so I see ALL of it as pretty corny - but these guys were making us look like full on rockstars with their shitty attempts at Black Eyed Peas and Lady Gaga tunes lol. I hold my bandmates in a MUCH higher regard now after seeing the "competition" on NYE.

So anyway, we found out that they had in fact sold out the general admission/floor section, but that most of the tables (80% of the room) were reserved for casino High Rollers... many of whom are apparently senior citizens who would never be out past their bedtime on NYE, especially for a top40 cover band lol. So the first hour or so was pretty light while they held out to see if any of those people would show up. Once they opened up those tables and let more people in, it was PACKED for the rest of the night and the crowd was off the chain.

All in all, I made $600 to pretty much scratch here and there over the band while they played, and then DJ for two 30-minute breaks and a 20-minute closeout . Super fun gig and EASY money!
THEPrototypeDJ 1:06 AM - 4 January, 2012
Arrived the crowd around the corner made me excited. Got to the set and it was CDJ's (not what I requested and I did not bring the control disc nor did the soundman have a pair). Burned a copy while playing from my laptop to keep things going and the sound man still couldn't figure out how to connect his own equipment. Ended up playing and mixing the entire night using the Internal mode in Serato. made it through the night but of course it was NOTHING like I had in mind for NYE.

Pretty much! The "no drinking while working at the casino" rule did suck, though.
Taipanic 7:45 PM - 5 January, 2012
Booked a last minute gig the day before NYE, spent most of the night working on my music catalog, creating NYE images & videos. Drove 4 hrs. across state, get set up, only to find out my main hard drive had failed. Had to use my secondary drive, which didn't have all of the NYE tracks and was about 2 months out of being current. DLed a few big songs from my services to fill in the missing tracks. The venue also only had one power outlet available for use in their courtyard, which made me very nervous (Thank God for LED lighting!). They also had a MJ impersonator scheduled that was very unorganized and was using crappy 128k rips (Really?? You need 15 songs for your show and you can't buy quality MP3s? Really??) Other than that, the gig went off great. People danced until the Police shut us down at 2:00 (outdoor venue), customer was very happy and wants to schedule a monthly show.
Dj-M.Bezzle 8:10 PM - 5 January, 2012
Ok here we go, got booked to do a return gig at my old spot, by booked I mean I was informed 2 days before that they assumed I was gonna do it lol, Im supposed to be on and off with a band just like last year, I get there and the band is ooollllllddd and left me no room to set up so I had to deebo an area on stage, after that they inform me they are all going thriugh a mixing board into the house mixer and cant figure out how to use the mixer, I turn the vol up and wala fixed. They start playing redneck blues and clear the room, then I went downstairs to the main room to party but had to keep explaining to people I cant get EVERYONES friends in for free, after 2 hours the band takes intermission and I play....still 0 people watchin the band, I play for 15 minutes and abiut 20 girls come in so of course the band wants to come back on, they instantly clear the room, the band asks me to play at midnight but the owner tells me since ZERO people are upstairs they canceled the money drop AND my countdown so I had to help with the balloon drop in the main room. I go back in to play my room, play 3 songs and the band wants back on saying wont leave cause their paid to be there, I explain im paid to be there to the difference is im NOT costing her tons of money by sucking n scarring off customers, finally they leave and I play 2:30 till 3:30 which was a lost cause since the club was chargin 25 vs every other bar in the strips $5, so crowd in main room was less than a normal sat
DJWALDO 8:15 PM - 5 January, 2012
85% of live bands are borderline worthless....
DJMark 11:11 PM - 5 January, 2012
Had a great NYE here...very nice "non-amateur" crowd at a pretty large 80's party.

Seems like everyone was happy with it...just confirmed next New Year's Eve for the same thing in the same place.

WITHOUT FAIL, EVERY TIME! It's either crappy MP3's (I've seen some "artists" go as far as to bring songs or instrumentals that sound like they've recorded off a boombox (and they admit to this being the situation)), lack of organization, scratched to hell CDs, etc., and then they have the nerve to get mad at you if something is wrong (especially if you are informed at the last minute and not before hand that there will be a performing artist).
