SP6 Triggered via Korg Nanopad 2 for MAC Users

TheVirge 9:32 AM - 6 November, 2011
Requirements:
1. Korg Nanopad 2
2. Korg Kontrol Editor and MIDI driver: (korg.com) software located in "support" tab)
3. midiStroke www.charlie-roberts.com
4. midiMonitor www.snoize.com
5. Serato Itch 2.0 & Shortcuts PDF.
6. Some Patience!!!

After you've downloaded & installed the required software, follow these steps:

1. Connect Nanopad 2 and open Korg Kontrol Editor

2. In the Korg Kontrol Editor, select a pad. Next, 'Assign Type' -change this to 'Control Change' aka CC#. Do this to all pads! Each pad corresponds to a command that will be assigned with the number displayed via midiStroke & midiMonitor.
If you selected the upper-left first pad & scene 1 from your Korg Nanopad 2, select scene 1 on top of the Editor as well. It should read CC#37, if not look at your controller and press the scene button until the led rests above 1 and double check the Editor. We'll use this to trigger the play button for the 1st sample slot on the SP6. NOTE: leave the Editor OPEN!

3. Open both midiStroke & midiMonitor. Place both windows side by side to get a tighter view of things. In midiMonitor, click the 'Sources' menu, select Numark NSFX or whichever controller you're using. Also select Pad. Be sure to deselect any items not to be used. Make sure "Act as a destination..." is selected as well. Moving along, Open the 'Filter' Menu and deselect 'system common', 'real time', & 'Invalid'. Select 'All Channels'.
Hit the first pad , you will see that the midiMonitor is revealing the transmitted MIDI info. The 'chan' column should read Time code, Source, Message, Chan 1, and Data C#1 followed by Velocity (0-127; yes that was how hard you tapped it). Each pad per scene will have a different channel number, so take note of the number or keep midiMontor open for referencing.

4. Move to midiStroke, here is where the commands will be entered per Pad via Shortcut. Looking at your PDF, the shortcut Z (Shift+z) is "Serato's" MIDI assignment on the keyboard your typing on. Now, looking back at midiStroke, add a command pressing the + symbol on the left column. Enter the number '37' under the num column, enter '1' under chn. (These numbers were revealed through the editor and the monitor). Next, press the + on the right column. Here enter z (lowercase), then select the 'shift' symbol (arrow pointing up). At the bottom of the window, src should be changed to nanoPAD2 PAD.

*if you have followed every step accordingly, you may now proceed to Serato Itch 2.0, WAIT YOU'RE NOT DONE YET!!!

5. Open the SP6 and load the audio file you've deemed worthy to the 1st Slot.

6. By selecting one of the 4 trigger modes under the play button allows the pad you've assigned to function under the corresponding mode, oh what the hell...you can figure out which ones start/stop on their own. Just press the 1st pad and the SP6 is now under your command.

7. Assign each pad as necessary to your full advantage using steps 2 - 3 through the rest of the following Slots per Pad within the SP6 and any other commands you wish to assign. Also, use the PDF as a guide for your commands, select Keystroke (midiStroke) to view the other commands not listed in the right column.

8. Upon closing the programs, SAVE YOUR SETTINGS for future reference to quickly enable your Pad Commands & Assignments, as I cannot guarantee you're productivity or loss of commands &/or assignments nor the malfunction of the improperly assigned. See Manufacturer Restoration or contact your device's corresponding dealer for support for any malfunctions you may arrive at. You may also respond to this blog and I will respond to you at my earliest convenience.

**Using other controllers through this method may or may not work. The provided links are ones that I've become familiar with by having the courage to read and view information posted off serato.com, youtube.com, soundonsound.com, djtechtools.com, korg.com, google.com and other various sites that contain information on MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface).
