Since October 15th, no new tracks I add to Serato have been saving. I have tried adding tracks to an existing crate, and have tried creating new crates to add new tracks into. It allows me to put new tracks in, and it shows the Add Date, but when I close and re-open Serato, the tracks are not there. I haven't changed permissions on my internal drive (all set to read/write), and I'm using the same external hard drive that I've been using for years without having this problem. It's just out of nowhere, on October 15th, Serato is not saving anything I add to it.

I've downloaded the latest version of Serato, 2.3.1. And I'm running Leopard 10.5.8. My external hard drive is a FreeAgent 1gb drive, Mac OS Extended (journaled).

Also, the tracks I'm trying to add can be from my external or even my internal drive, and nothing is saving. PLEASE HELP ME!!

Hi djharuto,

Have a go at recreating your V2 database. This is vital to the library information that Serato stores and can sometimes become corrupted.
serato.com

Note: Rebuilding the databaseV2 file will revert all of the 'date added' dates to today's date and will delete any files out of Scratch Live that aren't currently in a crate or playlist.

Let us know how that goes

Thank you for the quick reply. Unfortunately I did what you asked, and it didn't work. I see two databaseV2's now, in my music folder in my internal drive, and my Serato folder on external: databaseV2 and databaseV2 backup.

What else can I try?

Thanks.

have you checked permissions on both internal AND external drives?
djharuto 3:25 PM - 31 October, 2011
Yes, the permissions have not changed at all since I started using Serato in '09. Same computer, same external hard drive. Doesn't matter whether new tracks are coming from the internal or external, Serato isn't saving them.

Even if you didn't purposefully change them it may be best to check that they haven't been changed by accident :-)

Are you analyzing them and putting them into specific crates?

Are you using iTunes' library at all or just Serato crates directly from their file location?

Permissions are set to read/write on internal and external drives.

My process for adding files has always been: pull from finder (whether pulling from internal or external), drag to "All" crate, listen, and put into crates by genre from there. Sometimes if I know what it is I just put it into the proper crate from finder.

Sometimes I turn on "read iTunes library" but I try not to fill up my iTunes because it just creates doubles of files. But yeah, I do both I guess.

Can you check all your folders please - that's:

*Music
*Serato
and
*V2 Database

let us know how you get on with that by right clicking and 'get info' option

Ok so, new, much larger problem. It seems my external hard drive has died. Most of my music was stored on there, and when I plugged it in, Serato would populate my tracks from the external hard drive. I have a backup external with all the same music, but when I plug this one in, Serato isn't populating the crates with the same tracks as the previous external. Is this because I deleted the databaseV2 the other day? Can I go into Time Machine from a few months ago and restore the Serato databaseV2 through Time Machine? Or is the problem of crates not populating with external #2 the same way they were with external #1 unrelated to the databaseV2 being deleted and recreated the other day?

The situation I'm in now is, Serato isn't saving anything I add to it, AND this 2nd external hard drive (which has all the same music as the original external that crashed) isn't populating my crates the same. When I plugged in external #1, Serato held about 22,000 tracks. With external #2, Serato holds about 10,000 tracks. So now I feel like I need to go through the external and re-organize all the music, but Serato wouldn't save the info anyway....man. This is brutal. Please help me.

Man, i can empathize. Crates aren't populated from the V2 database so we can rule that out as unrelated. When did you last backup the drive? This should be exactly the same i.e. 22,000 tracks - if there are 22,000 tracks on your hard drive they should be being read in the same way they always have. Did you notice any less tracks on the actual drive itself during any of the backup process?

I called Serato Support earlier today. I explained the problem and the agent said that the external I've been using for a few years--the one that died--holds all the reference points for my crates in Serato. So even though I've copied over the contents of the now dead drive to another drive, Serato doesn't recognize the pathways to those files, so crates are coming up incomplete and some crates aren't showing up at all.

However, I've located in the "_Serato_" folder on my internal drive, a "Crates" folder, and when I open it I see some of the crates that aren't currently showing up in Serato. How can I at least get these crates to show up in Serato? If I can get the crates to show up, even if the file sources aren't recognized, I can at least run "Locate Lost Files" and the files will hopefully be found that way, no?

I just uploaded an image of the Crates folder I found, and the Subcrates folder. Some of my crates still appear in Serato, as you'll probably see on the left. I have a "Dance" crate with a bunch of sub genres broken down. Even though most of my files referenced from the now dead external drive, is there anyway I can get the crates to at least populate with the tracks? Even if they show up in pink and I have to use Relocate Lost Files?

If you drag the folder 'Crates' into the folder 'Subcrates' while ScratchLive is closed that should do it. Reopen ScratchLive and see how you go with that.

If your tracks have the same name, they should come up with a relocate lost files search yes. This might take a while as there's a large amount to search for.
