Should I sell my apple stock?

I don't often think about a business man changing the world, but he did. How many people heard he died while using an apple product?
To be able to have that huge an impact on music and how we interact with it despite not being a musician is also amazing. An apple was one of my first computer experiences and the first time I did anything digital music related was on a mac plus, so for me it is somewhat personal as well.
Hope he was able to feel peace before he passed.

My first Apple comp I ever used was the original bw Macintosh back in 1990. I was in 6th grade. In my 12th grade, I bought my 1st Power PC. Today, I own 4 Apple computers and a number of devices. I've been there long before Apple became a trend, long before it became what it is today!

I still remember when Apple was struggling, when there was no USB, when Apple had a Launcher, when using Macs was tidius to use, when Macs had viruses, when you had to worry about conflicting extensions, when you couldn't multi-task, when you could only have one window open, when Mac's ran Windows, when you were able purchase a "Mac" in any brand you'd wish, and a lot more. Without Apple, I would not have a career.

RIP Steve Jobs.

Hey DJ Mark - glad you started the thread dude. Remember back in the day when we used to ALWAYS SOMEHOW hit the same threads here on the forum and try and tell people how great Macs were.

Funny thing is I just loaded iLife 11 last night and was using the new iPhoto - ran across some of the pics when I used to attend the Macworld Keynotes with Job presenting new products.

I was there in the audience when he introduced the iPod and iTunes (2001) and in 2007 when he introduced the iPhone (last time I could afford to go). Products that changed our way of life forever and I was there LIVE when they were introduced.

artpayne.com <-- was about 10 rows back or so - nice fucking seat.

Was just looking at those pics last night and today dude is dead....

Yep. It's funny to think now that back in 2005-2006 Apple was still a pretty "niche" brand.

Not to derail this thread into politics, but it's worth noting that it really took the better part of 10 years for Steve Jobs to get Apple fully "turned around" and transformed into the major tech power it now is. Think the parallels there should be self-evident/enough said.

I'm going to guess by this point Steve Jobs' "DNA" is well-entrenched enough at Apple that the company is likely to be in very good shape for a long time. They just need to keep entities like Scully/Spindler/Carly Fiorina/Meg Whitman (barf! r.i.p. HP. Hewlett and Packard spinning in their graves) from ever getting a foot in the door and destroying the company through mindless greed.

But it wasn't someone else... it's not about being on nuts. Truth of the matter is he is one of the people responsible for the world as we know it. If it were someone else we would be talking about them and not Steve Jobs. It is a true sign of absolute brilliance to bring to the world inventions it didn't even know it needed until it got it. He just happened to do that multiple times.

I don't want to sound unsympathetic, but Apple didn't change my life. My iPod didn't change the way I live. I don't own an Apple computer and as much as I like my (work issued) iPhone, I think I would still be in the same position in life if they had never been invented.

I think the world lost a true visionary and an excellent business person when Steve Jobs died. I just don't get into the whole "Steve Jobs changed the world as we know it" mentality. I think it would be best if you said Steve Jobs changed the world as you know it. I just hope your world doesn't revolve around an ipod.

Apple has been around a lot longer than the iPod and the iPhone, and has heavily influenced computing and it's use in the world in all sorts of ways, from publishing, home computers, music production, music delivery, design and probably a few more. So even if you have never bought an apple product, their approach of making computers accessible to everyone had a profound effect in many fields.

@ Sixxx and Logisticalstyles - have either of you played a mp3 or did a search in Serato? Not saying that it "changed your life" but making iTunes the model for how to buy, sell, and organize music and I believe the search engine in Serato is based on the same algorithm as iTunes.

Unless you play all Wav or Windows Media files or search from
Windows Explorer - the ripple of Steve Jobs inspiring or "pushing" his employees to make things work a certain way has touched your life.

Jobs did a amazing job with apple. I remeber in the 90s when apple sucked greatly, jobs along with a great team revived that company with the ipod everything else after that is history. Hats to Steve Jobs I know he devoted a lot of his life and time to developing technolgy I dont even think the man had a wife and kid
DJ Art Pumpin Payne 7:48 PM - 6 October, 2011
I think he had 2 wives and a few children. Controversy back in the day for not acknowledging one of his kids at first - eventually named a expensive business computer after her (Lisa) back in the Apple II days...

Oops - fanboy coming out ....

I'd go even further... remember that before mac, computers of the world were running on command lines—the fact that there are things like "Folders" and "pictures on your screen" can definitely be traced to apple.

I'll accept that. That's a much more reasonable argument than Toy Story, or iPods and iPads. And I like that you say he touched our lives, instead of Changed the World.

Well, Xerox really

en.wikipedia.org

But Jobs realised what it meant, an interface that everyone can understand, and he pursued it and continually improved it, I still don't think many people realise the vision he had and how much influence he had on modern computing. Serato in full screen is actually part of the vision (not solely his), turning the computer into a tool for any job. I can't remember the term but he pursued the ideal that a computing device can have all it's functions suddenly tooled towards a specific job at the touch of a button.

Steve Jobs is truly a visionary and he and his company have revolutionized society in more ways than we might realize...but some people out there need a little dose of reality...

Busted! I knew that when apple sued microsoft for so obviously basing windows on the mac interface, their defense was basically "hey they copied it too," but thanks for posting that article. In my mind I definitely give Jobs a lot of the credit for it spreading, though.
