Gold 68

2Seven 5:54 PM - 13 September, 2011
So now we know why no-one won a Gold 68 with the 'Gold Ticket's - the reason being the DMC's have replaced the gold 12's with a Gold Plated 68!

Quote:
DMC is proud to announce that sponsors Rane and Serato have provided a one of a kind, gold-plated Rane 68 mixer as a prize for the esteemed winner of this year’s DMC DJ World Championships.

The glistening mixer is worth over $5000, and was created through many trials and much experimentation to be ready exclusively for this year’s competition.

boo, i no longer want to win the dmc's now that just doesn't have the same appeal as the gold TT's
2Seven 10:02 AM - 14 September, 2011
Ain't it...no hating on Serato/Rane whatsoever, but nothing yet compares to snagging a pair of gold 12's
SeriousCyrus 10:15 AM - 14 September, 2011
They had one at the Serato stand at Sonar (Not sure who the DJ is in the pics, but he was pretty good with it all)

Naf 2:45 AM - 15 September, 2011
what he said^^

Just what a turntablist wants, a $5000 14" 4 channel behemoth. Why not a 57 that they're using in the battle anyways?

as pretty as it is the whole appeal of winning a dmc title was the gold technics, to me anyhow,
they should never have sold gold ones only have them for the winners of the comp,

can't say i want a gold 68 or even a normal one

The Return of Dj Sparky 10:00 PM - 16 September, 2011
there is no denying that Chad its very slick, but for the people that enter the dmc's and probably have been entering for years do you think they want that mixer or the gold technics?

I know technics are no longer the sponsers and Rane are but I think only the dvs constants would want that over the old gold technics, I may be wrong but thats what my gut tells me

you would say that you have gold techs and want that gold mixer to finish off the goldmember collection,

my advice if you want one so bad, strip your mixer like they did, send it off to get gold plated and ask rane nicely if you send it to them will they put the decails on again,

or win the dmc's :P
The Return of Dj Sparky 11:18 PM - 16 September, 2011
they should play this when presenting the gold mixer,

could be but since that is no longer an option, it's not like they have a choice and I'm sure they would much rather have a gold Sixty-Eight (which is a hell of a lot better mixer than the gold Technics mixer that they used to get) than a pr of head phones, slip mats, needles and a record bag etc...

Exactly PLUS... if they don't want it, they could sell it... it alone would be worth more than 2 technics and a technics mixer combined! I'm sure Ace would gladly pm the winner his number.
;)
Dj Ace 2:28 AM - 17 September, 2011
Exactly...
Dj Ace 2:30 AM - 17 September, 2011

The Return of Dj Sparky 2:37 AM - 17 September, 2011
nope havent used one, not a fan of 4 channel mixers, and i've yet to use a mixer thats better then my djm 909, still waiting on a company to make a better mixer so far no one has, only thing it doesnt have is midi
Dj Ace 4:56 AM - 17 September, 2011
I figured...
djvtyme85 12:33 PM - 17 September, 2011
Why wont Rane just go ahead and make their own industry standard turntable that would solve this all. If they make a turntable the same quality as their mixers it would selll
DJ Dub Cowboy 6:06 PM - 17 September, 2011
THIS^^^^!

I talked to the owners of Rane about this at the beginning of the year. They didn't think there was a strong enough market to justify all the cost of R&D. I beg to differ though. If they did it right, then there would be a lot of people who upgrade from the Technics.

I still have hope. I'm a turntable user for life. Sign me up for a turntable tattoo.

one question.

does the Gold 68 come with regular black vinyl?
AKIEM 8:54 AM - 18 September, 2011

Rane turntable would seriously dominate.

rotational dampening fellas
get on it!
The Return of Dj Sparky 6:47 PM - 18 September, 2011
in reality it wouldn't though, releasing a rane tt would be a big fail, you might buy one but the others wouldn't, whats the best they can do add some midi buttons? dicers already covered that, what else is there other then build ssl into it and the only angle i can see in them selling them
DJ Dub Cowboy 6:58 PM - 18 September, 2011
I still see decades of turntable use ahead of us. We are all supposed to just keep buying used Technics or Stantons? not seeing that one lasting, there is a hole in the market

The M5G seemed to do well and all they added was +/-16%

Sure add the midi buttons, track scroll/load, make as good as a 1200 and they will sell a bunch.

I mean come on. Pioneer is selling shit loads of 2000$ CD players. Who buys CDs anymore. Vinyl is one the rise again, CDs are on the fall. Controllers are a fad, but they will never replace turntables as the ultimate expression of DJing.

There is a lot that can be done... just because you may not think of it doesn't mean other things that could be beneficial don't exist. Technology is always moving forward which leads itself to new possibilities that didn't exist before. The big question would the costs to do that be worth it... weather the profit would outweigh the added cost for R&D, possibly hiring more people, sourcing parts etc....
Their are people who can come up with good ideas and ways of improvement all day long.
Dj Ace 9:48 PM - 18 September, 2011

Dj Ace 9:51 PM - 18 September, 2011
since rane already made to new awesome 19inch mixers, the sl2, sl3, sl4, and the rane 68 all I see missing from the catalog is a rane 58 SL and a ran empath sl...maybe a rane SSL controller would be nice, or even a dedicated bridge midi controller like the apc 40, but designed from the ground up to work with both ableton and serato together! that would be sick!
AKIEM 10:11 PM - 18 September, 2011
There is a vacancy for standard deck. Maybe it would be something CDJ users would feel comfortable with (plater works like a big bpm adjuster knob)

the good technics are the 1200/1210 mk2 thru mk5. The mk5g is crap.

CDJs suck, but to each his/her own.

I checked out the STR8-150. Lots of torque...aight. How long is that thing going to last, 35 years like a tech?

I like the STR*-150's a lot. That's the only test left to pass... the time test. The hold up much better than the TTX-1's
DJ Dub Cowboy 2:01 AM - 22 September, 2011
St150s look cool, but I can't stand the stanton blue color of them though...

I rebuild Technics all day long and they are simply beautiful machines. I will never get enough of them.

Interesting about the M5Gs, George, that is the only kind I don't have. I wouldn't mind a pair though (nm).
DJGeorgeT 2:12 AM - 22 September, 2011
I now own 6 mk2, 2 mk3, 1 mk5. I owned one m5g for 1 week and the pitch drift was noticeable, so i returned it. Then I had a chance to buy a pair of gold m5gs for good price, but I passed. There is no point in buying something pretty that I wont use.
DJ Dub Cowboy 2:13 AM - 22 September, 2011
let's set some things straight here in the DJ industry (according to Dub)

Rane- make a turntable and the EmpathSL already

Serato- fix your programs so they don't corrupt files and acknowledge your video DJs by posting something regarding VSL

Technics- fire the plant up again, drop the ground wire, add some midi buttons and reclaim your place at the top. Stop wining about lack of sales when you don't change your design for 30 years.

NI- stop paying DJs to make your products look better than they are

Vestax- What happened?

Numark- way to step it up on the highend DJ gear, now give us bigger platters on the Itch line.

Stanton- make some normal colored products

Pioneer- where to start....no comment...

Novation- Dicers=win, Twitch=fail, do you make products for pro DJs that use turntables, or amateurs that only play in their bedroom?

who did I leave out?
DJGeorgeT 2:18 AM - 22 September, 2011
Id be happy if Technics would come back and Pioneer would bankrupt. But it is all wishful thinking. I wished Stanton had a stripped down version of the STR8-150 without the bells and wistles and digital pitch and other garbage we dont need. They also need a new logo. I would not mind some faceplates to hide the fact that they are stantons.
