Im looking for a better then good wireless Mic

DJCrank 11:43 AM - 9 August, 2011
I am looking to upgrade my wireless MIC system that i have now. Its just ok, it has good distance, but sometimes i get these static sounds. Sounds almost like a wave passing. I am looking for something that is crystal clear with no hissing sound. I would like to stay under $400. If I could get a combo mic and lapel mic that would be great. I need this mic more for weddings and professional ceremonies. Any suggestions?
Rebelguy 4:26 PM - 9 August, 2011
You are probably going to have to go a bit higher on your budget.
Rebelguy 4:26 PM - 9 August, 2011
And don't believe the Shure hype.
DJLRock 4:37 PM - 9 August, 2011
better than good is gonna be more than 400 and definitely wouldnt be a combo
DJLRock 4:40 PM - 9 August, 2011
a decent sennheiser will be at least $500 and at minimum a higher end EV RE2 system. I have those and a shure SLX that is pretty good but around $700.
sixxx 5:40 PM - 9 August, 2011
You can get a wireless shure mic for like $350 (single) and yes, it's a great mic. I have one of them.

Lol I wish the manager of the club could see this post because he thinks the $250 Audiotechnica was too expensive and bought the $200 Airwave instead.

He gets what he pays for. Then again that is a different situation. You can get an entry level wireless system that works perfectly well in one spot when it is tuned. Things get tricky when you are a mobile service going to different areas all the time.

Honestly at this time I would look into the Line 6 wireless line, the Audio Technica 2000 series, or the Sennheiser EW 135 (if you can go a little higher on your budget).

I think Shure makes decent products when you spend a bit more money. I think the PGX and SLX are just okay.
DJCrank 9:49 PM - 9 August, 2011
Thanks guys, I may be able to go up $100 more dollars, the wedding that I am doing next week, they just upgraded to video, so that money can pay for my new Mic. I want to purchase the right mic one time. I will admit I was leaning towards shure Mics. Never really did any research on them. Some times my decesions are a little bias. Just like I am looking for a new system to replace my mackie SRM 450s, I was thinking EV but cant really decide if it is worth it.
Rebelguy 11:46 PM - 9 August, 2011
Which EV?
Rebelguy 11:48 PM - 9 August, 2011
Oh and shure make good mics when you get to a certain price point. The thing is that Sennheiser and Audio Technicas are great quality for a cheaper price point.

look into the Line6 XD-V70, bought a couple months ago and LOVE them, sold the Shures. Totally different wireless technology and the sound quality is amazing

I was looking at these a month or two ago but got talked out of it by my friend at Sweetwater. They look very interesting though.
BriChi 1:29 AM - 10 August, 2011
hahaha, why did he talk you out of it, He wasnt getting commission on it? LOL

The mics are awesome, the wireless technology alone blows away any of the competitors right now. I have had them for months, do very high end gigs with them 2-3 times a weekend and every MC that uses them love em. The Shure Mic I had dropped out a lot $700 later, So I did some research and I kept coming back to the Line6, Dont regret it one bit.
BriChi 1:32 AM - 10 August, 2011
and the funny part is, Sweetwater has awesome 5star reviews on the line6, I bet sweetwater is told to push shure, same way Bestbuy is told to push certain tv's to make more money :)

I have never read a bad review on the line6, well one that wasnt the users fault, lol

Nah it wasn't a commission issue. I have worked with this guy for years. He just told me that they had some issues with some units and they weren't 100% sold on the technology yet. I actually ended up with another Sennheiser unit. I have 4 of them and have never run into any issues.
BriChi 12:17 PM - 10 August, 2011
I have some senns too, Stopped using them once an MC went out of the room accidentally with the mic and it lost signal, the loud static noise that shot through the speakers was enough for me not to use them anymore. They are great mics but I work with a lot of different mc's and guys i dont want to really babysit if they leave the room with a mic by accident. And adjusting squelch, antenna extenders, etc.... didn't help. They are great for when we work with some of the bands. Plus the mute switch being so small and on the bottom of the Senns is annoying to some people, Just my opinion and experience of course, everyone has different experiences whether good or bad with some equipment

The technology on the units are great, that's the first guy in all the retailers I deal with that was not sold on the mic, everyone else I deal with loves them, Oh well, every piece of gear is not for everyone :)

I spent ages at my last spot with the manager telling me the mics weren't good enough...the max he'd give me to buy mics was $250 (for a twin mic setup!) yet everytime I ever hired some shure's for a special event or on request. He'd spend the entire night commenting on how good they sounded and why the house mic's never performed that way.

6-8 Months of saying "that's what a good quality mic does" and he still won't lay out the cash for some senns' or shure. Even though in that 6 months we'd have gone through at least 3 $200 sets.
DJCrank 8:33 PM - 17 September, 2011
I bought the Shure's, had them for about 2 gigs and took them back and got the Line6 XD30 series, I love em.
lvmez 3:31 AM - 18 September, 2011
i was ready to buy the shure as well. now I will look into the Line 6 XD-V30. what's the best price you guys are seeing?
BriChi 5:50 AM - 18 September, 2011
I got the V70 for $425
lvmez 12:51 PM - 18 September, 2011
very good price.
DJCrank 1:44 PM - 18 September, 2011
I got mine for 349 with a 20% discount from guitar center. I also traded in a old mixer that was sitting in the garage, so I winded up paying $260. The only difference I can tell with the V70 is the longer distance and the 12 channels to choose from.

One question I always wondered was, If I had 2 mics same brand and freq can it work with one transmittor?

Thanks

nope, not sure the details on why, but one will always overpower another, Picture having 2 djs in the same catering hall, using the same mic and frequency, you guys would keep crossing and coming over each others speakers, one always has to win. Shure does however sell a system that is one receiver and 2 miss if you are looking to save space
BriChi 1:56 PM - 18 September, 2011
Crank, Here is the dual system if you are interested:

DJCrank 3:46 PM - 24 October, 2011
I love my Line 6
lvmez 5:18 PM - 24 October, 2011

I had a wedding this weekend, the preacher didnt want to hold the mic so he put it in his inside coat pocket and it still picked up the entire wedding loud and clear. The one bad side about the mic I dont like, is the spongy on and off switch and that its hard to turn off. So when the mic is not in use I just turn the volume down.
BriChi 12:11 PM - 25 October, 2011
I actually dissasembled the mic and put a small piece of folded paper between the button "switch" and the plastic piece that engages it, now it is perfect like all the other shure type pic mute buttons
DJJOHNNYM_vSL3 8:26 PM - 25 October, 2011

I may have to look at doing that.
BriChi 7:38 PM - 26 October, 2011
yeah, its realy easy, Pop out the batteries and you will see a torx screw at the top, take that out and the battery casing will lower and you can pop out the glass and do what you need, takes 2 seconds
::the:mix:mason:: 3:40 AM - 27 October, 2011
Yo! Just ordered a Line 6. Thanks for all the tips, fellas. Very useful. I wish all topics stayed this relevant, haha
DJCrank 2:05 PM - 28 October, 2011
Yeah, for $349 you cant beat it. I wont make more purchases until black Friday, hopefully I can catch a good deal on some moving heads. I think 4 should do nicely.
lvmez 2:56 PM - 28 October, 2011
I paid $299 at b&h photo.
BriChi 3:42 PM - 28 October, 2011
for the V30 right?
lvmez 5:48 PM - 28 October, 2011
Yes
DJCrank 9:43 PM - 28 October, 2011
Hell, I might order another one, or if they have the V70 for $350, I will definately scoop it up.
javlingames 4:00 PM - 31 October, 2011
Anything by Beyerdynamic would be much better than good!
