Nice mix sixxx, just one thing - i dont know if its just my computer but on the low qual video, the further along it goes, the more the video goes out of sync with the audio. Maybe its just a codec issue.

Maybe cos im using the quicktime alternative rather that actual quicktime.

... and I recorded the set in Pro Tools then combined the audio/video in iMovie. But, then it was exported in Quicktime. So, maybe that's the culprid. :(

I can notice it less on the low quality one... and I think it's because of the less frames per second. Damn iMovie. lol

I enjoyed both mixes. Johnny yours was overall more of a "mix" in the ideal terms of the word, but sixxx's just had me rollin with the song choice and skits.

Let me bring my shit over here too. Going be hard to keep score with both threads going.

I'm listening to Johnny's stuff now, it's okay, nothing special but I like the track selection. The mix is just average, although I do like the fact that I can do all the cuts and scratches he did easily (and I can't really scratch that well, LOL) if this were 1985 it would be all good. Aside from the cuts being basic, some were off and some were just monotonous (like that transformer during "Got to be Real). I'm at the 15 minute mark, now listening, the "pump me up" cuts are decent. On these I can hear your skill and the scratches are all on time. Oops just heard an eff up when the second pump me up came on and you were scratching, LOL. It's all good though, if I was using a realistic mixer, I would probably have the same hang ups. Oh you killed it at the end. Overall, I gave the mix a 6.5 out of 10. Word of advice, put that realistic mixer on the shelf and never take it out again, LOL. Time to listen to Sixxx's mix.

Honestly, I think this whole thread and battle was a great sign of respect by the both of you. Everyone on here gets a little testy sometimes, but the vibe i got from this battle was two professionals going at it in a professional manner. No "real" beef with the results, you know.

Overall, my vote is for Sixxx, but I think it was a close battle. JohnnyM, not to far behind at all. Maybe with Serato you could win???

Listening to Sixxx's mix now, intro nice, skits too long. More battle style, and the cuts are on time but nothing special. Nice "Johnny" cut in on the second skit. I like the mix on the "? Remains", oh no here comes another skit, lol. Listening to the song after the skit, nothing special on the scratches, but the are on time except for that one part when it sounded like the record skipped. I like the beginning of the skit after that, it came just in time I was getting bored... okay how many times are you gonna loop "you got knocked the eff out", plus it's drowning out the cuts, okay I can hear now that you got skills on the cut and I feel you could have done better than this, it sounds like this was just thrown together. Johnny's flowed much better. However, in your defense it's one take when you were probably tired and you did not spend a lot time putting this together or practice it at all. Technically, you have Johnny on the cuts/scratches but like I said this is not the best representation, it's hard/almost unfair to compare the two. So while, I really feel that you have skills and are better than Johnny, I have to give this battle to Johnny. I rate this a 6.4 out of 10. This is kind of like when Busta Douglas beat Mike Tyson, we all know to Tyson was the better fighter but on that day Busta won.

Speaking of Relative mode. It would've made my mix easier but I feel it would've taken away from it as well. I know some cats love relative mode. I like it for looping sometimes and I know my girl is going to love it. But, I honestly love absolute and needle dropping.

I was so empted to do shit like spin around and do tricks that you obviously wouldn't have seen because I don't know the first thing about video editing...

but as you know...I catered more to an older vinyl dj audience vs. a serato audience....

some of the cuts sound sloppy becuz some of the stuff I was newly learning on the rane I wanted to try on the realistic.....no comparison...timing is completely different....

sixx was straight up battle shit...went for the neck...was tight on the samples and scratches...had a videographer...i think i saw a lil picture next to his tuntables for inspiration lol

johnnys took a lot of work and you know it was practiced because he was using vinyl..extra props because its way harder and time consuming ...went a lil overboard on the scratching sometimes in my opinion.

i think sixxx wins because it was more of a battle mix...i think if your goin head to head this is the approach to take

but both were tight

In my defense, the only digital advantage I had was probably being able to use those disses in such a short notice and loading songs fast. Imagine having to find that shit on vinyl like the old days. I used no cue points or anything and it was still needle dropping on my part too.

It was a battle with no rules. Let's not start pumping conditions into it now. Sixxx's mix was concise and to the point. It was "in your face." JOHNNY's mix was basically an old-school club set. Nothing that made me sit up and take notice. Cuts were good. Record selection was dope. Needle drops were noticed and appreciated (just moved to Serato last year). But, the reason JOHHNY was edged out was because some of the mixes were redundant and somewhat predictable. And did you have to play the WHOLE Buffalo Gals song?

Ok.... after listening to both.... and judging based on what I actually hear them do (even though I watched Sixxx's vid).

I feel Sixxx took it - but just barely.

If I had to score it would be REAL close... like 4 stars vs. 3.75 stars (and probably closer)

JohnnyM has a great mix but at about 5:40 into the mix it just got a little 'rough'. Almost like you were trying to do something that just didn't come off like you planned. Same at about 7:30 and 9:38 and 11:56 (where it sounds like you're pitching like a mad man). Kickass skills and I'm impressed - very impressed - but it just seems like you were trying too hard at those points and fell a little short of what you were going for. The scratching through most of it was impressive - even more so than what I saw from sixxx.

Sixxx - nice mix, great battle style but it just seemed smoother overall. I'm not in an area where I get to see battles and a lot of the other stuff you guys in So. Cal, NYC, and Chicago take for granted but I liked what you did and how it came off overall. All in all, the overall flow seemed smoother than Johnny's.

Okay, this is going to be hard to judge. It's like comparing a Dr. J to a MJ, totally two different eras. All I can say is that Johnny's mix has been done before as far him knowing what to mix next with each song and it's long as shit. But when you've been DJ since 1978, it's just second nature by now. Give props for being staight Vinyl though. Battle wise Sixxx takes it, but fundamentally it's a tie in my book. Round 2.....let's go.

Honestly, I think this whole thread and battle was a great sign of respect by the both of you. Everyone on here gets a little testy sometimes, but the vibe i got from this battle was two professionals going at it in a professional manner. No "real" beef with the results, you know.

Overall, my vote is for Sixxx, but I think it was a close battle. JohnnyM, not to far behind at all. Maybe with Serato you could win???

Listening to Sixxx's mix now, intro nice, skits too long. More battle style, and the cuts are on time but nothing special. Nice "Johnny" cut in on the second skit. I like the mix on the "? Remains", oh no here comes another skit, lol. Listening to the song after the skit, nothing special on the scratches, but the are on time except for that one part when it sounded like the record skipped. I like the beginning of the skit after that, it came just in time I was getting bored... okay how many times are you gonna loop "you got knocked the eff out", plus it's drowning out the cuts, okay I can hear now that you got skills on the cut and I feel you could have done better than this, it sounds like this was just thrown together. Johnny's flowed much better. However, in your defense it's one take when you were probably tired and you did not spend a lot time putting this together or practice it at all. Technically, you have Johnny on the cuts/scratches but like I said this is not the best representation, it's hard/almost unfair to compare the two. So while, I really feel that you have skills and are better than Johnny, I have to give this battle to Johnny. I rate this a 6.4 out of 10. This is kind of like when Busta Douglas beat Mike Tyson, we all know to Tyson was the better fighter but on that day Busta won.

It was named track 3 because when I started to record onto the cd, (LIVE), the first time I started recording, the volume was too HIGH, because I had re-adjusted the levels for the RANE, but went back to the Realistic, and the 2nd time I tried recording it, it created a blank #2 track....Thus the 3rd track on the CD was what I ripped.

..awaits Johnny's rebuttal to his well rehearsed 15 year old battle routine that could have been recorded many many years ago. Did you ever think that you'd better timestamp that shit to let us know you didn't pull that from the archives? (like your other posted mixes)

I gotta give this one to Sixxx to. Firstly, these are the Serato boards. Not having serato is no excuse...and even though you say you aren't making excuses Johnny, if I just knew you and sixxx made mixes and listened to them both, when Sixxx's came on I'd immediately think, oh it's a battle, whereas yours I'd just think, ok, he's doing a routine.

Taking it a step further, battles aside, sixxx had cleaner cuts and better tricks. Your mix wasn't just old school in song selection, but in skill too. You're definately better than me (but I can damn well bet than when I have 10 years under my belt I'll be better than you are now with over 20, so I'll call you out in another 5 years.)
