Hi.
I downloaded Ableton Live 8.2.1 Demo to test The Bridge. It seems that it will take quite some time until I get used to Ableton Live though.
In the meantime I started adding beat grids to my tracks to make them to sync better with The Bridge. And I'm also looking forward to the release of the Novation Twitch since I'll get one as soon as it hits European market.
A problem I noticed is that the opportunity to edit or even see beat grids is only given if Ableton Live is being opened. Other users report that they only had to activate The Bridge once to have beat grid option every time.
Another thing is that I never have the option to edit beat grids in offline player mode, whether Ableton Live is opened or not. The user "nik39" uploaded a video that he is getting beat grids in offline player mode.
We were both running the same versions (SL 2.2.0, AL 8.2.1, Mac OS X 10.6.7)
Am I'm doing something wrong?
Is it a bug?
Thanks for help in advance :)

Hi serkan.
You can only see and edit Beatgrids when you have The Bridge tab visible in Scratch Live, so you will need to make sure that you have this before you are able to use Beatgrids.
ITCH has Beatgrids visible all the time, so you could download ITCH and edit in there, as both programs share the same library information.
I'm not sure what Nik39 is doing, but he's a super user, so may be doing something else to get that showing.

Hi serkan.
Hi Matt.
You can only see and edit Beatgrids when you have The Bridge tab visible in Scratch Live, so you will need to make sure that you have this before you are able to use Beatgrids.
My issue is that the Ableton tab only shows up when Ableton Live is running.
Even if I launch SL first and AL later. The tab only appears if AL runs simultaneously.
But: The beatgrids doesn't disappear if I close AL.
People keep telling me that they even have beatgrid option if the uninstall Ableton Live.
ITCH has Beatgrids visible all the time, so you could download ITCH and edit in there, as both programs share the same library information.
I have ITCH 1.7.1 installed and edited some grids. The editing itself worked great but about 1/3 of the beatgrids didn't show up in SL. On the other side every beatgrid I made within SL is showing up flawlessly in ITCH.
I'm not sure what Nik39 is doing, but he's a super user, so may be doing something else to get that showing.
I just searched the forums.
I remembered wrong since his screencast was on Windows XP.
He's showing that he can do beatgrids in offline player:
ssl-wiki.help.bootlegs.de
This is me showing that it doesn't work with me:
sk-33recordings.com
Nik tried to help me but couldn't so he suggested me to contact you guys.
It really would be a great time saver to edit grids while I'm waiting at the station, riding the bus/train, etc.

Yes, this is the correct behavior. Once you close down Ableton Live, then the Beatgrids will still appear until you close Scratch Live too.
Have you seen this yourself? Or do you have a link where this is happening?
Can you please attach 4 tracks to this thread that have been edited with ITCH, 2 that work in Scratch Live and 2 that don't?

This will be because you are using the Demo of Ableton Live it seems, as users should get Beatgrid editing when in the offline player to do as you want (ie. setting up Beatgrids when in transit etc).

Sorry Matt.
The issue with the lost beat grids happens occasionally and not very often so it took me a little longer to grid tracks in ITCH and to check if there are lost in SL.
You can find the following attached files in this Thread:
1. Tracks gridded in ITCH with grids missing in SL
= Sunbeam - Infusion
= Leon Bolier - Offshore
2. Tracks gridded in ITCH with grids showing in SL
= DJ Mellow-D - Natural Voices
= Leon Bolier - Poseidon
Info:
"Infusion" and "Natural Voices" are from the same album, gridded in the same session.
"Offshore" and "Poseidon" are from the same album, gridded in another session.
In addition another "disappearing grid" issue which happens so often that I actually had to search for a track that maintained it's grids :(
3. Track gridded in SL with grids missing in SL
= Andy Moor vs. Orkidea - YearZero (Andy Moor's First Light Remix)
= Andy Moor vs. Orkidea - YearZero (Original Mix)
I gridded these two tracks in SL one after another.
The "Andy Moor's First Light Remix" has no grids anymore while the "Original Mix" is still gridded.
The grids disappeared after about two days. In the meantime I had ITCH open a several times but without touching the now faulty files or even their crates.
-------------------
Hope this helps!

In Scratch Live all tracks apart from Sunbeam - Infusion had a Beatgrid here.
Same with ITCH.
Where did Infusion come from? (Ie. was it a CD rip, download, or share?)
Can you please check out that Leon Bolier - Offshore is missing still?
Do you use an external hard drive at all?

Just wanna shout that i get beatgrids even with no Ableton Live running. Full versions of both programs running and i get them.
I do like it though so please don't remove it. When i'm setting my cue points it's a help to get them accurate. If you do want to change this bug then please put an option in The Bridge setup tab (under the ENABLE/DISABLE tab that says enable/disable beatgrids when not using The Bridge.
I do like them for reference and wouldn't want to lose them when not using Live 8.

Hi guys - you're right, you should be able to see the Beatgrids when your hardware is not connected.
Sorry, this may be some sort of preference issue.
Can you please do the following:
• Close all programs.
• Go to the User > Library > Preferences
• And delete the file named: "com.serato.scratchlive.plist". NOTE: Do NOT use Finder's search function to find these files. The search index of OS X does not keep track of any files which are located inside the library folders, so you won't find them. Please navigate to these files manually by following the exact paths.
Let me know if that helps.

CD rip from original CD.

Yes. No beat grids in SL while the others have.
Do you use an external hard drive at all?
No. Only for backup but it is never plugged in when using SL/ITCH.
Let me know if that helps.
Sorry, but no. All the setup settings were gone after deleting that file but still no beat grid feature.
I tried this with Ableton Live opened in the background.
In addition another "disappearing grid" issue which happens so often that I actually had to search for a track that maintained it's grids :(

Do you also see beat grids at these two tracks?
It really bugs me to have the grids disappearing all the time since gridding 4000+ tracks is a pain in the ass already :)

This is totally not acceptable behavior for you I'm sorry. It's hard with this issue, as these are often caused by corruption or settings at your end something seems tweaked, and searching out what is going on can take a few steps.
If you re-analyze the tracks, do they get new Beatgrids?
What program did you use to rip the songs?
What were the settings? (Maybe take a screenshot of the settings and attach to this thread?)
If you rip the bad tracks again, do they still have issues?

It's getting weirder like every day here :)
If you re-analyze the tracks, do they get new Beatgrids?
I loaded the tracks with missing beat grids into SL and they were still not there.
I disconnected the SL 1 to re-analize and the grids appeared but they were not how I set them in the first place. Most of the times the red downbeat maker is not where I had it before.
When I connected the SL 1 again the beat grids where still there and didn't disappear after restarting SL. But as mentioned above the grids are not the ones I setted so disconnecting the SL 1 unfortunately is not a solution.

I can't remember which CD ripper I used for the first two tracks (Infusion and Natural Voice).
The 3rd and 4th (Offshore, Poseidon) were ripped with foobar2000 (www.foobar2000.org) (Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit) into flac files and then converted to MP3 using LameDropXPd (www.rarewares.org).
The 5th and 6th tracks were downloaded from Beatport in January 2008.
If you rip the bad tracks again, do they still have issues?
I will try this but I don't think it will change a thing because other tracks from the same CDs (ripped at the same time) seem to work without issues.
I think I will try to reinstall SL, AL and maybe ITCH to see if that helps.
Do you have any suggestions which file from the preferences library I can/should/should not keep?
Is it possible that it has to something with ITCH, SL and AL being installed on the same machine?
Or would you recommend to wait for SL 2.3 and/or ITCH 2.0 since they're announced for this quarter?
I definitely want a solution for this but I'm willing to provide the time and effort needed to crack it.

I don't think reinstalling the apps will help. And it won't matter with the programs on the same computer.
This kind of thing is more likely than not either the files themselves, or the way we are interacting with the files. If you can re-rip and then find the Beatgrids ARE sticking, then it may be that the ripping process is odd.
You can always try ripping using iTunes and seeing if that works.
You can always try downloading ITCH 2.0 beta, and analyzing using this? (serato.com)

I donwloaded the ITCH 2.0 RC1 yesterday and I already like the automatic beat griding while the tracks are analyzed. I'm testing it now and the results look good.
I will let you know within the next days as soon I can say more. I'm planning to re-analyze all tracks and to check within SL if everything is OK.
