FAO Novation: An idea for Twitch V2 (or any Itch controller manufacturer)

Instead of just putting one set of main outputs, consider putting a set for each channel. This would offer much greater flexibility for the end user because it would allow he/she to have all the controls of Itch plus allow them to choose whether or not they want to use the controller's mixer section or an external mixer.

Here's what made me think of this. Let's say you're in a gig situation where the main mixer is high quality and ergonomically positioned with other gear where you want to use it. Having this feature option would allow you to place Twitch to the side, run two RCA (channel 1 and channel 2) into the club's mixer, set the channel faders to full output and use Twitch just as the Itch control, not the mixer section. Kind of like how Traktor users do with the Kontrol X1.

Thoughts?

OK, here's a quick drawing (albeit crude) that illustrates the idea and how it would allow users to choose what mixer they keep their hands on to control actual sound, while maintaing control of Itch via Twitch (or any other similar controller).

Nice, and I'd use it too, but the final product would cost more (bigger soundcard, more audio paths, connectors) and will probably draw too much electricity to run off USB power.

These days manufacturers pay more attention to price their products lowest as possible rather than adding features that will seldom be used.

Solution;

Twitch main outputs in to channel 1 of mixer

Twitch booth outputs (switched to follow headphones) in to channel 2

Fader up on twitch deck 1 only, so twitch main output is deck 1

Monitor selected on twitch deck 2, so twitch booth output is deck 2.

Adjust levels to match & "Hey Presto!" .....you're mixing externally on your club mixer. (Just remember not to touch the faders on your Twitch).

Actually, one more addition. If you switch permanently over to the fader fx mode. Then you really don't have to worry about hitting your up-faders by mistake. As they won't affect audio.

master outs and booth outs share the same DA conversion, unfortunately (sound is mirrored)

Have you actually got your hands on one of these yet, Cerla?

On page 11 of the downloadable pdf manual for Twitch on Novation's own website, it says;

3 Booth Output Switch (Master , Cue ) – normally Booth Out will be set to MASTER
so that you can hear what everyone else hears. Occasionally, you may wish to set this to
CUE when using additional external equipment (for example, another DJ mixer) to provide
a separate headphone feed.

CUE is no an additional DA, however, if this can be routed to booth out it would be easy to implement an external mix mode (and convenient, as faders would only control FX).

+1, even if it remains to be seen if the sound of the two channels is identical (it may depend on the point where the cue signal is routed in the audio path, pre or post headphones amp).
