First Album I bought (wayyyyy back in the stone ages) was by Graham Central Station - Ain't No 'Bout-A-Doubt It. I think I was about 11 or 12 yrs old,
It had this one song on it called The Jam that was UNBELIEVABLY funky with a lot of solos, done like James Brown use to do (give the drummer some).
heres a link to it on Amazon:
www.amazon.com
Radio would play it every once in awhile but the song was 8 minutes plus so it got very little airplay. Most songs in that day HAD to be 3 1/2 mins or less to be played.

I've always remembered having records around the house. I bought many 45's before starting to DJ. My first trip to the local record stores as an aspiring DJ netted me about 10 records. These are the ones I remember:
Planet Rock - Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force
Looking for the Perfect Beat - Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force
Play At Your Own Risk - Planet Patrol
Pac Jam - The Jonzun Crew
Magic's Wand - Whodini
Change the Beat - Fab 5 Freddy
Scorpio - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
and I think, It's Magic - The Fearless 4
Those records kept me occupied for days and days and days...

I love this thread!
as a kid:
I think it was The Village People - YMCA on 45
When I decided I wanted to be a DJ:
It was 2 copies of the Run DMC - Peter Piper/My Adidas 12". The album wasn't out yet and I had my first pair of turntables on Lay-A-Way in 1986. Although I could listen to them on one of those Record Player/8-track/AM-FM radio consol things that were passed down the family.

Don't forget old fucks like me are on the Board now dawg...
I had that record somewhere. Would have helped if you spelled it right (Began Began).

I remember it being on that brown label One Way - is that the original. I won't hold U to the $20 but next time I go digging in the basement, I'll see if I have it still. That was around the time I first started to DJ, damn.

I was in like second grade and my aunt took me and my brother to Wal-Mart and let us each pick out a record for Christmas. I don't remember what my brother got but I still have that record and most of it is still playable. And yes Wal-Mart used to sell vinyl back in the early eighties.

L.L. Cool J - Radio was my first owned record. I was always stealing cassette tapes from the older dudes around the neigborhood and playing with my parents 45's though. I still have most of those 45's too.

I'm old. Bill Withers- "Lean On Me". Did I mention I'm old? I was about 10 when I got that on a 45. When I was 21 or so, I already had a decent vinyl collection of shit I liked, and the club I spun at had a good collection of club music. But when I got a gig doing a dance at a high school, I remember buying "Angel" b/w "Into The Groove" & "Let's Go Crazy" b/w "Erotic City" on 12".

1st record I think was a Smurf read along album which I used to scratch on my play school plastic turntable. DOPE!! Or it was some Menudo record.. lol
Rare Arts - Wepa Man
