Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Integrate OS X's "Smart Folders" with the smart crates function.

Or at least somewhat, I understand since you support Windows users as well that this wouldn't work cross platform. Maybe instead you could just add some extra parameters to the Smart Crate functionality.

I for one don't use Serato's Crates as they were designed, after one too many "rebuilds" of my Library I decided to abandon the whole concept. I did this because I didn't want to be completely reliant on Scratch Live's internal database and because I already had my music semi organized via folder structure. It is easiest for me to keep my music organized how I like it on my file system and mirror that using ItchSync than to organize files twice which is what it seemed I was doing when using the built in library functions. Okay enough rant.

Back to my point, I keep files and folders organized and that has served me well, the only caveat came when I decided I wanted a crate of all the stuff I had downloaded in the past week, month, year. I went to Smart Crates and sure enough it has date sorting options, GREAT!! Well, maybe not so much, since I organize my music via the folder structure on my hard drive and everytime I use ItchSync it rewrites my serato library (database), all the added on dates are exactly the same.

I would like it if we could get a little filesystem functionality added. Right now I use a workaround by creating a "Smart Folder" in Finder that has all the music for a certain time period, then I go into an ID3 tag editor and change the year tag to a code (i.e. May 2011 = 1105) in order to then use the Smart Crate function in Serato.

Seems like with just a little give in the philosophy of music management over at serato you could make quite a few people happy as I know I am not the first person that has stated they would like to have a Filesystem based hierarchy for Serato Crates.

Maybe we could have an option when the program runs the first time that gives you an option of which style of organization you would like, something similar to the way Google Chrome asks you which search engine you would like to use when it starts. You could even put something like "(Recommended)" next to the traditional way of managing crates.

Just my two cents, and while this isn't a dealbreaker for me, and I'm not gonna cry foul and say "Screw You!! I'm going to Traktor!" it would sure make my process easier, and I know I'm not the only one.

Thanks Devs for making an awesome product, and I wanna hear your opinions on this as well as the opinions of other working DJ's. What do you guys think?
