I'm using a 2GHz IBM T30 w/ 512MB RAM. When the USB buffer is set higher than 15, my CPU usage stays at 100% while in the normal view, and at 40-70% while in the setup screen.
Is that typical? Or should I be able to get lower CPU usage amounts on my system with a lower USB buffer setting?
What are some of your buffer to usage ratios?
And finally, do you have any suggestions to improve performance?

No, everything moves smoothly.
I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 AGP video adapter with 16MB of RAM at 32 bit color depth.
I just tried lowering it to 16-bit, but it still utilizes 100% when both players are playing with the buffer > 15. If I minimize SSL, the CPU usage drops slightly.

Correction: the above should read "with the buffer < 15."
So is anyone else experiencing this? I'd just like to know if this is typical CPU usage amounts. While in the setup screen, the CPU usage drops tremendously...

While in the setup screen, the CPU usage drops a lot because it seems that the waveform disply took a lot of CPU usage. More that the sound treatment.
Is there any possibility for the Serato Team to improve the CPU usage of this waveform display?

We are considering the option of being able to turn off the beat matching tools if you don't want them, this wold save on CPU. The waveform displays don't use much CPU, but the label view probably uses a little more.

Great :-).. Please Turn it off. It saves CPU and Art of Djing too. I personally don't like those tools. It kills the talent.

LOL thxj... i disagree... the artist w/ more tools can expand creativity... the artist w/ the dopest new brush in no way kills talent...

that's only if the dopest new brush doesn't make you look like every other painter available (overused effects *cough*flanger*cough* come to mind here).
if you limit yourself, you'd be surpised at how creative you can be, versus having every tool at your disposal. for example, if you're painting you might limit yourself to a few random colors instead of allowing the whole spectrum.

I also think that it would be cool to have the option to turn the unused tools of. I dont even work with the labelmarkers. I have marked my controlrecords- More useful.(Oldschool Baby!)

personally i think everything that has been implemented into SSL adds greatly to my creativity as a DJ.. and this is coming from someone into technical hip hop mixing.

I agree J-bravo... but SpinThis!, sure you can ride the 'keep it real', and 'its trendy' trains, and I agree maybe there should be limits to certain art forms or peices of art.... but I think in no way do the little beat matchers n what not kill the art of deejay'n... my view: if you dont like em then dont use em... some people could say that not using SL "saves CPU and Art of Djing too" and that using SL in itself as opposed to using regualr wax... "kills the talent"... so your saying that in order to 'keep it real' you are allowed to use SL but not the beat matching tools? Others would say to 'keep it real' you are allowed to use a deejay setup but not a computer... limits are not clearly defined, and it all depend on your perspective I suppose

Correct analysis... very well put.

i agree with you. i didn't say or mean to imply in any of my posts that by not using extra tools you "keep it real." (I'm not sure if what you posted was directed at me or at thxj but I thought I'd respond anyway.)
to put it another way, you're not any less creative with more tools, but a lot of times you can be more creative when you limit yourself. (i hear a lot of DJs sets and it's like "hey let's put a flanger in here and an echo effect in here" and for no real reason other than because you have a kaos pad.)
