Hi there,
I bought some hours ago 1 CDJ 900, for the second one I need to wait a little while because it was the last one and they need to order new ones.
Tomorrow I need to play in the club and I'd like to play with the 900. Is it possible to connect only 1 player and play the other deck with a turntable?
My second question is:
Is it possible to use the CDJ 900 and the Dicer together? Or will it cause a problem with MIDI assignments?

OK, I just had it work.
I had some problems with my first setup and serato was crashing 5-6 times so I needed to reboot every time.
Maybe you guys can reconstuct this issue and fix it??:
I got a HP pavillon dv7 working with a Windows 7 home premium OS and 4GB RAM.
SSL 2.20.33
SL1 box
CDJ 900 with firmware 3.2
1 Technics 1210
Start PC, start SSL, connect SL1, connect CDJ900, connect Dicer everything works fine
disconnect SL1, Dicer and CDJ, SSL switches to offline mode
Re-connect SL1 and CDJ, SSL crashes and even a forced shutdown via taskmgr is not possible. Windows is not able to shut down normally (forced shutdown)
After trying and trying all over again it finally worked. Left is my CDJ 900 and on the right my 1210.
Dicer works fine with the 900. The presets which were in conflict with the 900 (start, up, down, load) were deleted automatically.

The 2.2 version is having issues with MIDI devices on some computers. I suggest installing the 2.1.1 version and see if you can duplicate the problem. If not, use the 2.1.1 version for playing out and the 2.2 version for at home use or testings :)
Installing this version will by default overwrite any previous version you had installed, however it is easy to have more than one version of Scratch Live installed if you wish.
If you have an important gig coming up, you might like to stick with the version you know until you are comfortable with 2.1.1.
Here's how to do it:
Windows Users - before installing, find the Scratch Live executable (by default it is in C:\Program files\Serato\ScratchLIVE, and rename it - for example call it Scratch Live 2.0.0.exe. When you install the new version, the old executable will not be deleted, and you can choose which you want to run by going into that folder and double clicking on the executable. You can still do this if you have already installed version 2.1.1 - just rename the executable to Scratch Live 2.1.1.exe, and then reinstall the version you were previously running.
Mac users - before installing, rename the existing application file as above (like "Scratch Live 2.0.0") - you have to be admin to rename it. (If you aren't admin, you can copy it to another location, and then rename it.)
The 2.1.1 download can be found here -->> serato.com

Ya, I just installed the 2.1.1 2 hours ago and tested it.
I need to restart SSL sometimes after I disconnected and re-connected the CDJ, but then it just works fine. (No system crashes anymore :) )
Seems indeed more stable.
I have the 2.20.33 also installed as discibed above.
Thanks for your professional and helpful support.
U guys do a great job!!

Thanks Martin :)
It sounds like you'll need to stick with an older version for a bit. The Serato guys are in the process of cleaning up 2.2 bugs for the next SL update coming down the pike :)

Well, I think I celebrated too early.... :)
I just received the second CDJ 900, and guess what... problems.
I connected both players to an usb port on my laptop, started SSL and only the first CDJ asked what deck it should be (1 or 2). The right and newer one only showed "connected".
Both players run version 3.2 and I work now with SSL 2.1.1.
Also switching the USB ports did not give any result.
Serato as well as windows crashed 3 times now. (SSL won't shut down, neither via taskmanager - processes - right click - shut down programm), also SSL loaded mp3 files, but didn't play them.
I needed to reset the laptop (4 seconds pressing the power button) a few times now.
I tried to re-install SSL, without success.
Also I updated the CDJ again with the same version I updated the first one with.
After disconnecting and restarting everything, the new player won't work with SSL. Even if I have only connected that player without the other one.
Midi mode is also set as "advanced".
Any suggestion?

OK, next step....
I just had the idea to connect my spare laptop, a Toshiba satellite L300 with Windows XP 32 bit running and 3GB Ram, installed Serato 2.2.0 (I still had 2.0 on that one) connected the players and the SL1, started SSL and, tadaa... everything works just fine as it should be.
So, the question is now,... is it a driver problem or an OS problem?
I'd like to play on this laptop because it has 2 x 750 GB HDD, and the Toshiba only a 500 GB. So how do I get this work before the weekend?

Try connecting 1 cdj assign it to deck 1 then connect the second deck and assign it to 2.
I did it with cdj 400's and it worked

Hi Phil,
Thanks.
I just installed a clean version of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and SSL 2.1.1 and 2.2.0
The assignment of the CDJ's is luckily not a problem anymore. So both are working with SSL now.
But (and there is always a but ;) ) the dicer doesn't work with it.
I can connect only 1 CDJ, SL1 and the dicer, or 2 CDJ's, SL1 without the dicer, or 2 CDJ's the dicer but then SL1 doesn't work.... frustrating....
So there seems to be a problem with the 64 bit driver. But this problem is no big deal anymore because I installed a fresh 32 bit.
Now I just need a solution how to use the 2 CDJ's together with the dicer....
Someone got this work already? Any solution?
Thanks.

Well, seems the only way to use those components together is playing with the timecode CD's. But this wasn't actually the reason why I bought 2 CDJ 900.
I bought them because this option was some cheaper as buying 2 x CDJ 2000, I could use the cuepoints and loop roll via dicer, the loops and library control with the 900, etc. .
After a while I will buy the 2000 anyway, but till that time I need them.
Also the slip function is not available with serato. It is a nice feature of the 900 and should work with serato...(loop roll at dicer is about the same)
So to get it all together:
Please fix the 64 bit issue with the CDJ 900
Please fix the CDJ + dicer issue
Please programm the slip function

Windows 7 (especially with "i" series processors) has known issues with multiple USB devices being properly detected and staying active.
It's recommended to check your computer for BIOS, chip set and driver updates.
I also suggest contacting Pioneer for information. Perhaps, Pioneer is aware of the problem and working on a solution :)

Hi Shaun,
This was very helpful. I just bought a USB hub to test all devices on my old laptop (because it only has 3 USB ports), and it just worked. 2 CDJ900, the Dicer and the SL1 just worked fine.
Because I just made a clean installation on the HP, all recent drivers are installed cause I downloaded all from HP.
I just tried to install XP on the pavilion.... blue screen. Seems it's not possible thanks to our big Bill...
Well anyway, I think I will switch to apple soon. That shit just works without problems.
Now trying to install the virtual xp mode.... maybe that will work. But in 2 hours I need to play.
If I can fix it I will post it how it works...\Getting frustrated of this windows shit.

Hi Natural D and Shaun,
I used a powered USB hub Belkin F5U701 USB 2.0 7-Port.
But it only worked with my Toshiba L300 running a XP 32 bit OS and a Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390.
On my HP dv7 3150ed with a intel i5-430M it did not work.
Running a virtual XP version in windows7 didn't work at all because you can't use the USB devices....
Best regards,
Martin

Finally it works!!!
Because I installed a wrong usb driver (it was for AMD). I needed to make a system recorvery...
Now I rebooted the laptop, connected the 2 CDJ's to it, then the USB hub with the SL1, waited till SSL 2.1.1 recognized it, then I connected the dicer to the hub and it works just fine :)
See my video on youtube:
Watchwww.youtube.com
But SSL still crashes when I disconnect a divice.
If I want to shut down SSL it says "out of memory", and windows can be only shutted down by pressing the powerbutton for 4 seconds.

Try the 2.2.0 version of SSL and see if the "out of memory" error persists.

Both versions show "out of memory"....
Yesterday I installed Itunes because I wanted to use AAC files in SSL, but after connecting the 2 CDJ's and then the SL1, SSL crashes and says "out of memory".
After loading a restore point before I installed Itunes, the message didn't popup anymore.(for now, I only tested it ones a few minutes ago)

Hi Shaun,
OK. I´ll do it after the weekend, thanks.
I will try also try to increase the virtual memory in windows 7, maybe that´ll help.
Till monday I´ll leave it as it is now because it works. I played 2 hours yesterday without complications, Hope it will continue tonight and tomorrow night.

Hi Sean,
The increasing of the memory didn't have any effect on the "out of memory" message.
I created new V2 files on each partition as described above, thanks.
This week I have tried a lot of new (crazy) shit....
Like trying to install OSX on my laptop -> failed
Trying to install XP with the chipset driver (F6 before installing the OS) -> failed
Last weekend went well though, but the USB hub didn't seem that stable, because I was afraid if I just hit the micro USB cable which is plugged in the hub, it would crash (it seems to be a little loose) Beside there are 2 more cables (a power cable and the USB cable) which doen't look that nice. But oh well,.... it worked though.
I just had a new idea 2 minutes ago....
I will go and buy a PCMCIA express card with 2 USB 3.0 ports for 35 bugs this weekend.
This could be the solution. I will let you know how it works!!

OK, couldn't wait till the weekend and just got one. :))
I bought a Delock PCMCIA express card with 2 x USB 3.0 ports,
www.computer-cash-carry.de
installed the driver, restarted my laptop, connected all devices (2 x CDJ900, Dicer, SL1) and it worked.
So it seems the HP DV7 3150 does not supply enough power for all 4 USB ports.
(not OS related as I thought first).
Thanks a lot for your support!!!
But out of topic....
did you notice that if you push the 8 beat loop button on the CDJ900, and then go back to the 4 beat loop button, the loop starts over instead of making the loop smaller?
For example:
If I make an 8 beat loop in SSL (with my mouse), and then make it a 4 beat loop, the loop just continues playing as it should.
If I do the same thing on the CDJ900, the loop starts new every time I press a loop button.
Is this a Rane or Pioneer issue?
I know end of March the 4.0 version will come out for the CDJ's. You know if it is fixed then?

I have firmware 3.20 on both decks and the issue is the same in both SSL versions (2.1 and 2.2).

Ah, I see now, thanks :)
Using the loop options within the software keeps the loop playing at the same play position, but using the loop options on a CDJ 900 jumps the play position to the start of the loop and doesn't keep the current play position for that deck.
Correct?

Any update on this one?
I was wondering if you could reproduce and if this will be fixed?

Hi Martin,
I was able to reproduce the same looping behavior with a CDJ we have here at Rane. I'll forward your findings to the Serato software team for feedback :)

It looks like a fix has been added to the 2.3 beta that should help :)
The 2.3 beta is on the way and should be available within the next few weeks (I think).
