smaller is better... that thing is huge and not so sexy..
Henry GQ 7:26 AM - 11 February, 2011
i do. but i absolutely hate the buttons. and how small the screen is for the onboard efx. and seeing the way the ipad works. im amazed. that u can make a simple touch and it activates anything midi

i dont use the onboard effects at all. i mean. not one bit. u know what i use? the filter knob with the internal filter control efx. thats it.

but what i love.. is where the cue buttons are(i would have never thought of that)
also i love the loop roll knobs. i must have bought every midi controller untill the rane 68 came out. i was dieing for soemthign to control cue points and loop rolls

and yes the mixer is still sexy. girls come in the booth and get horny when they see all the buttons

good for NI. I couldnt care less about pioneer and their overpriced products, but a lot of people see them as the standard, so in the future a large amount of clubs will have a traktor box installed (in the nexus 900) in addition to the house Serato box. win for everyone

I saw that feature and wondered how it will hold up under battle conditions...on the display shelf at Guitar Center. :)
grrillatactics 4:14 PM - 17 February, 2011
Ergonomically, I wish Pioneer had left the second mic input where it is on the 800 and placed the USB port on the top plate with all of the other primary I/O. Most of us don't use the mic anyway, so it isn't such a hassle to have that stick out of the faceplate of the mixer... (wonder if it is possible/feasible to AKEIM that situation and just rip out the second mic input and put the USB port in its place? Warranty be damned!)

I also wish that Pioneer would move the headphone jack to the front plate to get that off of the faceplate as well, but due to the huge number of installations that feature this mixer, I can see the reason why they did not do that.
grrillatactics 4:15 PM - 17 February, 2011
Oh, as an addendum, I am glad to see that it is Traktor Scratch Certified. That is pretty flippin' cool!

Indeed.

What is really uncool... you still need to have a Traktor Scratch license!

So you can not just "download" Traktor Scratch, install and use the mixer. You need to activate it and for that you need a license. So it's not free.

The Price is about $2000 ...That $2399 is just retail ..Whats interesting is that it retails for about the same price as the high end DJM2000. But I guess they do put a little different tech into the new DJM900. I like this mixer...But as an owner of the Rane 68...I'm not sure I'd buy this unless it could work with Serato like the 68 does.

I love SL, and honestly the idea of using traktor is not appealing to me what so ever.

But if serato don't start working with some other companies to produce some SL certified mixers, they are going to start seriously falling behind, the days of using a dongle to run a DVS are fading fast. Almost every new mixer being released has internal DVS capabilities, who is going to won't to keep on plugging in a whole bunch of RCA cables? Not a big deal I know, but i find it extremely frustrating that we'll probably all end up having mixers in the next few years with internal sound cards, yet still require an SL1, 3, or 4.

I think someone nailed it on the head above. If I was a club owner, I'd buy an SL4, hook it up to this mixer and be good.

You'd make it easier for everyone using either SSL or TSP.

that's quite a win IMO.
J.J. 12:39 AM - 18 February, 2011
Quote:
yea not having a serato version is kinda crazy! pioneer came out with the itch thing for both why not for the 900?

Because Serato has an exclusive agreement with RANE hardware for Scratch Live. There are only 3 Rane mixers (MP4, TTM 57SL, Sixty-Eight) and 3 dongles (SL1, SL3, SL4) that support SSL.

If you've ever been to another DJ software support forum. Most are the problems people are having are with different ASIO sound card. Everything on how to set it up to latency problems. Plus, you don't have to license each computer you want to use the software at. With SSL, it's just plug and play.

Yeah really......Sixty-Eight PWNS the Nexus-900 as far as features/options are concerned. Though, I would still purchase it over the Sixty-Eight any day.

In actuality, I prefer the Denon X-1600 to the Nexus-900, but Denon will never break out into the Club Install market (I've yet to play at a club that had a Denon installed).....it's a shame really. The only thing that the 900 has over on the X-1600 (feature-wise) are the new effects....particularly, the X-Pad & Colour EFX Additions. The X-1600 has far better MIDI options, same (if not better) sound output, is a thousand dollars cheaper, has it's own proprietary effects, and is also TSP Certified. But alas, Denon will never be a Club Standard, and this is where Pioneer reign supreme....always will!

DJ Technology is getting soooo cool!

Probably a generalization, but its still becoming fairly common, and is the logical evolution of DVS systems.
