USB dropouts have become more freq on the new laptop... very sad indeed. :(

I have a RATT scan, should see it attached.

Lappy Specs:
Dell M1530
C2D 2.4Ghz
4gb mem

This is a dedicated lappy for my setup so it's been purged of nonsense services, background processes etc. I have anti-virus to exclude serato and my music folder.

Buffer is set to the far right currently, but have tried 10 and 5.

Please help, tyvm

I wanted to add that I'm using a powered USB hub that connects the NSFX and NS7. From the USB hub there is a single usb cable that plugs into my lappy. I have tried all USB ports, no change.

I have used this same setup on my previous HP Lappy, C2D 1.6, 4gb mem etc. I've played 8+ hour sets on this system with little or no hiccups.

I have not been able to play more than 1 hour without everything freezing, and dropping.. I've had to reboot my laptop everytime to resolve.

I took a short video, and pics with my cam if interested right after the first drop.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Forcing to re-analyze all 600 files... Going to try v1.5. Also, beatgrids have been disabled from the first install.

I have not been able to test after all my files were analyzed, but will try when I get home.

I also want to try v1.5, but I'm left with a rather important question.

If I have ITCH 1.71 (17105) with a fresh install of XP, this would
assume I have the latest firmware+drivers. So to install ITCH v1.5
what would I do? Have my hardware plugged into my PC during the ITCH
1.5 installer? Or do I need to remove itch 1.7, reboot, install 1.5
with hardware. Once install completed rename itch.exe to itch_1_5.exe,
reboot and then install 1.7 with hardware still plugged in..? I have
not tested this, but its my guess.

The serato guide is not this detailed. It only talks about renaming an
*.exe file to be able to run multiple versions. Linky:

Hopefully someone can help.

(it seems that attachments count as a reply to the thread? wtf)

Wanted to note, My cpu is the T8300. I have the latest BIOS. Chipset drivers, and all other drivers for laptop that I can find.

I started a test set today after a fresh library of analyzed files and it only lasted 15min until I had a bsod. The bsod pointed to ns7_usb.sys, but I have not really looked into much more. I've been focusing on another lead... Here's a snippet from the dump log. I can post a more detailed log if req.

I started looking a the multiple RATT scans and noticed that usbport.sys, and sthda.sys are hitting higher dpc numbers. I manged to get xperf loaded onto my XP machine and took a few traces. Found out that sthda.sys is the culprit!! Argh! It's a Sigmatel 9205 audio controller. If I disable it under device manager all spikes go away, but if the driver is installed, it spikes every 15-34sec.

I've tried two versions of the driver, but currently have version 5.10.0.5515(driver date: 5/10/2007) installed. I've also had the older driver installed and it was crap too. Still looking for a newer XP compatible driver......

I may get the gparted cd out, create a new partition for win7 and give that a go... I hate win7, but Im willing to see if the newer drivers will eliminate these funky spikes.

Still want to try 1.5, but reluctant to uninstall firmware/drivers/Itch so that I can have both versions. I.E remove all forms of ns7+firmware+drivers from lappy, reboot.. install itch v1.5 with nsfx, then rename *.exe, and install itch v1.7... etc.

*yawn* Sry that was alot! -peace!

Hi,
Glad you where able to pin it down.
AT^ 6:05 PM - 1 February, 2011
Wanted to update....

So I created a 50gb partition last night with gparted. Installed Win 7 ultimate, installed and updated everything. Tweaked system even more by disabling the search feature, indexing, homegroups, and a few other services that are not needed in win7.

Checked xperf, and the DPC latency checker. Both showed no issues. yay!

I installed 1.5, played a few beats... seemed normal etc. rebooted, Installed itch 1.7.1. Played only a song or two...Realized I should not be playing or testing with unanalyzed files.. So I analyzed all my files.. By the time they finished it was bed time. Although I'm now ready to do a longer set... which I should be able to test tonight...

Seems like the XP driver for the SigmaTel audio controller on the M1530 sux, while the Vista/Win7 driver is newer and a bit more stable.

sbangs, Pinned it down, yes.. But what a PITA! :D
