OH shit....i didnt no about these...i need to do some research.......the specs are great an priced almost 50% less than the most popular powered speakers. This could cause a problem ! I was about to buy another pair of EV ZXA5s ($ 1400 ea) but first i need to do my homework...lol

The subwoofer is looking good. the tops are a bit heavy compared to the other speakers in the same class. I'm looking for new speakers, So many to choose from now.

wouldn't the logic be a little heavier would mean a little more solid, and would also give better bass too?

Heard them at NAMM...they did sound impressive, but the demo was in a small room...

Impressive in a small room is very subjective... an A/B comparison to the K, KW and PRX's is in store to really see if they're good.

Those are still pretty small rooms. I'd really like it if you could demo a pair for a night and see how they sound in a normal use situation

EV's sound great but suck in build quality from my own experience. Way to many problems. I will never buy EV's again

wow! i have heard so many people swear by them. my bro has owned some passive ones, and i was really considering some of the new active ones. Thanks for the heads up. The last thing i need is something that falls apart or doesnt hold up over time.

Dude, you're hanging judgment of a great PA brand off of a few vague words by some forum dude. EV makes great pro audio equipment, plus, the majority of it is made right here in the USA (not the new Live-X speakers). Don't be a sheep.

My brother had the the EV sx500 for years without any problems, sounded great, but all of a sudden one of the speakers blew out on him. Speakers worked fine at end of night, but at the next gig it sounded like shit. He doesnt drive his speakers hard either. I guess after a while they just gave out. Id definitely stay away from the older models, but there newer stuff is built much better and have been very reliable.
You can see me using them at his barb q in the background. www.youtube.com

I have these but the Eliminator II version. I had them since the early 2000's and used them at many club events. They still work. Back then I didn't know what I was doing so I used to blow the tweeters all the time. I ended up replacing the speaker crossover (the thing on the back) with one that has fuses to prevent blowing up the tweeters. Other than that, my major complaint is that they're heavy as fuck! Also, if you have them at floor level, they don't go very far. If you have them on top of bass bottoms, you'll be fine.

talked to someone that saw them at NAMM... they said they were played in a small sound booth, so they are waiting to hear them in a different place...
said they are comparable to sound application for the PRX and SRX line

With a 1.5 driver I think they will be good competition for the QSC KW, JBL PRX line. The SRX use 3 & 4 inch horns, thats a whole nother level of loudness.

i didnt know they had that size difference... Wow! how would you compare one 3 or 4 inch to 3 x 1.5 inch? (i think the VRX has 3 or 4

The VRX are line array, so they are built for projecting sound at a distance. Its a different kinda of speaker. As far as the size I would say with 3 drivers they gotta be very loud. Also the internal parts are quality, neodymium drivers are stronger, lighter and deliver more power.
Just for example, Ive owned the QSC KW153s with the 1.75 driver and at full blast you can dance in front of them all night and your ears wont ring. At full blast with a SRX speaker you could damage your ears, its almost painful how loud they are.

If you noticed DJ Josh V never responded to what type of EV he "owned" because he probably didn't. Many if not most major touring PA companies use either QSC, HIGHER END JBL (not as much but they have expensive PRO LINES) or EV PLAIN AND SIMPLE. THE EV LINE X line is very popular on tours. I have used and STILL use the EV SB180 18" subs and SX500+ tops and can tell you they kick the snot out of anything the other local (non touring) pa companies use. Don't be fooled by wattage. PEAK WATTS means the power they handle for SHORT BURSTS not RMS. Look at what they can handle for HOURS not MINUTES. EV build quality is one of the best builds. Also if you use a cheap peavey or GEMSOUND amp, that is what you will get out of your PRO PA..cheap sound. We mainly use QSC or Mackie amps.
