Why Does Serato Cater to famous DJ's

Djshawnrob 3:06 AM - 21 December, 2010
As I was reading about the infamous white control record or famous DJ's getting special treatment. I cant help but get angry at Serato... I feel as if all of the other dj's aren't appreciated. Why Limit the Serato Products and features to headliners? It wasn't a headliner who sold me the product. Why can't Serato have a slogan "All Dj's treated equally or your money was as good as theirs?" So, Serato please treat us all as a valued and equal customer, regardless of DJ status.

Remember Your Not Alone in This Market...

haha ouch.
Jcx 4:47 AM - 21 December, 2010
agreed
Hey-B 5:14 AM - 21 December, 2010
Because it makes the average DJ such as Djshawnrob think "Shit, I should purchase Serato and maybe someday I'll be as good as [insert name here] and Serato will give me cool shit".

And yes, it probably was a headliner who sold the product ultimately. How did you hear about Serato? Probably from a DJ who you look up to, think about where they heard it from...

It's nothing personal - it's called marketing, and is the same across all manner of industries all over the world.

Stacey Pullen
David Morales
Josh Wink
Carl Cox
DJ Shiftee (DMC World Champ)
DJ Rafik (DMC Champ)
James Zabiela

Cedric Gervais
Black Chiney

Pretty good variety of DJ's who get "special treatment" from Traktor.

Seriously, Some of you make a mockery of DJing. Fuck the special treatment bullshit. Why dont you just learn the fucking software and continue to master your own DJ Craft, instead about worrying about the next man having white vinyls? Is DJing really that superficial? White vinyls dont make anyone special.

Only reason why I disagree is cause not all cv's are pressed the same so for me it does make you sound better and have more control, some are very light & slick, some are kinda heavy & not slick at all. I like using the clear vinyl the most.

Thanks to all that replied. I do understand marketing and good marketing is give the headliners the product, then sell the product. Example, Nike gives an athlete a shoe to wear, people see the shoe, Nike sells the same shoe, people buy it. That's brillant marketing. Now lets look at Serato. They give this A-list Dj a colored vinyl and never sell. That equals loss of profit. People always want what the celebrities have. So put a price tag on it and give it to them. Like DJ Kahar aka DJ Skyscraper, I prefer the black vinyl. Someone asked, "How did I learn about serato?" I learned It from a D.J. mag with no celebrity endorsement. I read it, I liked it and I bought it. So here's my new question. How many Serato units have you sold? I have sold many to friends and too many other Dj's that I've came in contact with. I think the majority sell a hell a lot more units then the A-list DJ's there are more of us than them. Let me be clear, I'm glad that companies sponsors DJ like serato. I'm just asking if it's available to them, make it available to us.

It's just you; white vinyl is important.

Important? hmmmm, I think that's a stretch.

BUT.... if it IS actually important... that would explain and justify why they cater to DJ's who are more important ie in the public eye more and/or more influential than others.
Which would also render this thread and further discussion null, void and pointless.

Therefore, it's either not important OR the fact that it is, explains and justifies their actions. Either way... problem solved.

I'm just asking if it's available to them, make it available to us.

you just don't get it.

serato doesn't hook up headliners to sell records. they hook them up to sell SL1/Sl3/57s/68s. the records are the freaking shoelaces in the Air Jordans. get over it and work on your skills.

i'm going thru the 4 stages of stupidity and pettiness of this OP. step one: rage. step two: reason. step three: listing the steps. step four: ignoring and going on with my life.

I also don't think people how limited the white vinyl is.... it's not like they can make as many as they want... like an SL-! box.

Nike does the same thing as Serato. Nike makes special colorways for players that the general public will never have a chance to buy. Unless the players themselves sell or give away their shoes. If Player Edition shoes do end up on eBay they sell for crazy amounts just like White CV's

^^Exactly my point. EVERY collectible brand has a few rarities that will never be mass produced for the general public. The hope of one day being able to buy one of those rarities keeps collectors hungry to find any way to get them. Rane has done a great job creating passionate following through limited CV's.

@ Djshawnrob - Just so you know... the DJs that got the white vinyl got alot more than just that. This is actually what they received from Serato.
www.individualsole.com

It's a limited edition prmotional only set. But it's obvious that you are new to the whole DJ thing because when everything was on vinyl the record labels used to make "limited edition" colored vinyl and vinyl with different labels just for certain big name DJs. It's nothing new and it will never end. If you want to be catered to by the big companies then work hard and make yourself a big name DJ

Hey guys,
Thought I'd chime in on this one. Yep, we run an Artist Endorsement program - this isn't unusual in the DJ industry, most companies run a similar scheme.

I'm not going to lie, there will always be some "Endorsed Artist Only" swag - our artists do heaps of stuff for us, so it's nice to be able to reward them with some special swag.

One thing we do work hard to do for everyone is provide free technical support and free software updates. This costs us quite a bit more than one run of exclusive vinyl, but it's something we feel very strongly about.

Also, a little known fact, we have a special colour set aside specifically for the forum. So it's not just artists who get limited edition stuff ;)

We appreciate everyone's support!

i may be incorrect but i would assume those limited runs are determined more by the willingness to pay to have them pressed vs the pressing plant putting a limit on it, money talks, thats where theres a huge number of red and blue, white traktor vinyl ect

I agree 100% with Brigid: The technical support and constant updates are worth much more than any colored vinyl. Just look at the amount of new messages in these forums every day, and there is always someone from tech support to reply here and there, even in the chit-chat threads. Now that's where you can see that these guys n gals are part of the community.

and another thing no one has brought to attention yet:

WHITE IS NOT A COLOR! :D

What is a Serato Tech Mate?
Seen a member posting on the forum with a "Tech Mate" avatar and wondered what makes them so special?

A Serato Tech Mate is just that, one of our mates who knows Serato Scratch Live and who can be trusted to give informed technical advice.

These Tech Mates have been specifically invited by Serato to participate in training, and their knowledge of Scratch Live and troubleshooting skills have been tested and will be on a regular basis.

We know there are plenty of you who would love to be a Serato Tech Mate, however it's a strictly invite only group, selected from those who we work very closely with. If you have any questions about Serato Tech Mates please email techmate@serato.com.
