I think I may probably already know the answer to this but here goes...
Is there anyway I can use SSL and the SL3 with the XONE DX. Mixing with the DX is great but I do miss the turntables!! I know I can route the turntables through Itch but I would love to control my MP3's with the turntables.
If not, anyone any suggestions???
Thanks

Hi TB1.
The only way to do this would be to use 2 computers, so as far as it sounds like what you are wanting, no there is no (easy) way to do this in ITCH I'm sorry to say.

Thanks Matt,
Is it not possible to have both Itch and Scratch running at the same time but just minimize Itch out of the way??
Cheers.

problem is they both use the same database, so there is conflict with both running at the same time. (this is my understanding, im sure serato will correct me if im wrong.)
would be good to be able to use the dx as a controller for SSL, and also be able to use the mixer.
for instance still have the sl3 box plugged in, as well as the dx, but the output that would usual come out of the sl3 box is directed through the dx, therefor you can use the dx as a controller when in internal mode, but also have timecode inputs through the sl3 box for external mode, and still be able to use the dx as the mixer... hope that makes sense, would be a massive project for serato i think so i doubt this will ever happen!

so do we have an answer for this?
I can't imagine the dx being unable to run SL3, right?

After much deliberation I decided to take the plunge over Xmas and buy Scratch with the SL3 in the hope that I could run it through the DX.
And, I'm happy to report - it works!!
You need to have Itch running in the background minimize but other than that, it's absolutely fine. All of my cue points from Itch appear when I load the track in Scratch.
Furthermore, because the DX is a midi controller, I've been able to map it with Scratch just how a want it, including effects, loading tracks, looping, etc.
So for those out there who wanted the best of both works, ie Scratch one day, and itch the next, it works great.
Well chuffed.

do u use the outputs from the sl3 into the thrus on the dx or is there a way to direct the signals through the dx mixer from the laptop?
TB1

Yep, the outputs from the SL3 go into Channels 1 & 3 of the DX. Load up Itch, shift and cue to create the thru's and you're away.
I couldn't get it working without Itch but it's fine just sat there minimized in the background.
Libraries, crates, and everything else works fine.
I've been running it for a week now and no problems so far.

so, really what is it you are gaining by using scratch rather than itch?

nothing at all really... i'm just trying to appease the pussies that are afraid of the DX.....

@just julius 17 - yes through one laptop.
And as I said, I get the best of both worlds - Itch when I want Itch, Scratch when I want Scratch.
Mate, I ain't afraid of the DX. Don't get me wrong, I love the trickery of it and what it can add to your mixing, but after nearly a year without the 1210's you kinda get to miss them a little.
Now I have both - all through one great mixer - happy days!

My apologies TB1, that wasn't directed at you. I certainly didn't mean to imply that the DX 'scared' any of us within this thread. I was retorting to cnewton. As a promoter and Dj I have had a difficult time convincing my colleges of the DX.
Indeed, couldn't agree with you more regarding the 'best of both worlds'.
I'm interested on mapping SL3 with the DX, sounds real tight!!
to clarify, you are only running ONE laptop with Itch in the background and SL3, correct?

Yes, absolutely, just one laptop (13" Macbook 2Ghz, 2GB RAM, so nothing special...)
I have one usb cable coming from the DX and another from the SL3 - all in the same laptop. I then load up Itch, minimize it straightaway, load up Scratch, shift and cue to create the thru's on Channels 1 & 3 and there you go.
I can understand you triple checking - as you can see from the start of this thread, I did clarify if running Itch and Scratch on the same laptop was possible to which the response from Serato was NO! But like I said, it's running like a dream for me. CPU loadings are normal, no audio dropouts, etc, etc.
And, yeah, once you map the DX to SSL, you really are away!! Great fun.

Has anyone tried this with a SL1 box? I hope that it will work as well. I'll be trying it out on Wednesday when my DX arrives.

First off, thanks to everyone on this thread for such cutting edge and state of the art banter.
TB1, way to be a leader.. So are you flanking the DX with your 1200's or are you just using the DX? I'm considering two V7's or whatever Numark replaces them with this weekend (NAMM 2011) and I planned to use SSL as well. So basically, I'm asking if anybody in here is using or has considered using a Xone DX with V7's?

I can confirm that it works with an SL1 box. Everything is identical to above with the exception that I had to use 2 & 3 so that I could use the line/phono switch to toggle between SSL and vinyl. I also had to use RCA splitters to run the line and thru from the SL1 box into two channels. There's a slight db drop due to this which is actually nonexistent if you just use the line and don't worry about the thru for vinyl.

one last question...
are we able to run the Auxiliary Channel (3rd deck) with the Dx?

I'm still doing something wrong?
SL3 see's the Dx (able to map effects, etc.), ITCH is running in the background....
however, still getting no signal to the Dx?
Confused?!

The Sense is, to reduce hardware ...
Well yesterday we had the case, to use a DX for a Gig and two turntables. Also it was the host for a Traktor Digital DJ...
Well - I couldn't keep my fingers off, and tried to mix vinyl with mp3.
Truely it was a little mess.in that case a VCI300 is a winner, with a DX it is crappy ...
not because of my knowledge - it was because of the handling, and made some quick actions nearly not possible.
At this time I thought I wish I could control my mp3 with the turntable and a timecode vinyl. Come on Serato. There must be one Bonus you should deliver to us DX users.
I mean - in gerneral it is senseless and cost expensive for a company to maintain 2 SW-Versions, otherwise I feel a little bit disapointed about the trouble we had with that device. OK - I discovered yesterday the power of it... but hey ...
sometimes - very seldom - but below some circumstances, the mixer stays in scratch mode. no chance to get it back
