ntmoney 3:38 AM - 23 March, 2007
Hi. I've been a DJ for almost 10 years and a serato DJ for about 3 months and I'm loving the product. I was searching for new music and came across a record pool on djcity.com. This left me thinking, what exactly is a record pool? Do any of you serato users use the record pool? Thak you very much!!!!
Redi2roc 6:24 AM - 23 March, 2007

DJ K-otik 1:02 AM - 24 March, 2007
The DJCity pool is a pretty good one - at least for me. Only problem is that they don't carry old tracks, just new stuff.
RICHY RICH 8:49 AM - 24 March, 2007
no old pool carries old tracks. EXCEPT soulchoice.ca. I belive they just just launched there internal forum where users can trade tracks. This might work out for you....

www.soulchoice.ca tell dexter that richy rich sent you

HOOOLLLLLDDD ON. So you've been mixing since you were 8 yrs old??? AND with "tapes"???

10 years ago was 1999 son and I dont think anyone was selling or fucking with tapes at that time.

And no.... we dont feel ya
ntmoney 4:37 AM - 30 March, 2009
whoa talk about a major bump. This is from two years ago. LOL. So yea, just an update, I did join djcity.com and its nice. It's provided me with most of my tracks for the past two years. I've also joined a few others.

Now to other business, Owning Serato has become a life changing experience. Pre-Serato, I was using cd's and used tapes before that. It's not a big deal "Bedtime". I was just new to the game and was letting people know that I wasn't a newb at DJ'ing, just a newb at serato. Things are taken care of now. I've learned not to ask "NEWB" questions on here because most of the times you will be swallowed alive (no jaws).
djfufu 5:14 AM - 30 March, 2009
i think i read at djcity that after 8months the trak expires....what the hell does that mean? will it always stay on my serato? or after 8 months u cant find that trak no more?
DJ Strike It Up 5:25 AM - 30 March, 2009
^LOL
djfufu 9:57 AM - 30 March, 2009

We sold a lot of tapes on a regular basis at a music store I worked at, and they kept selling until, like, '05/'06 or so when they closed down.

Master P & the No Limit entourage were a consistant cash cow...

I guess since nobody REALLY ANSWERED dudes question, I should drop this in for future n00bs and Microwaves before Strike It Up gets this thread locked...

A Record Pool is a business that services WORKING DJ's with promotional music from Record Labels and Artists for a membership fee. Many connected DJ's back in the vinyl days got individual service direct from labels, but somebody (NYC DJ David Mancuso I think) came up with the idea that labels could service multiple HOT DJ's in one place/location and they could all break records more effectively.

Vinyl Record Pools used to be VERY regional, if you live in LA, you joined a LA/Cali pool not a New York pool. Record Pools used to be important for breaking new artists, they would visit Pools like radio and meet the key DJ's to get support for their Records. Local Record Pools are still around recordpools.nwdma.org but many died out when labels stopped pushing vinyl and went digital.

I was an Asst Director of a Vinyl Record Pool for many, many years (late 90's-2003) and have been a member of 2 or 3 Record Pools since 1984/85 (except late 2003-2007 - pre Serato) I am currently a member of www.idjpool.com (plus 2 free pools - 1200squad.com and greenhitz.com but don't use em much).

Since apps like Serato & Traktor came into play, many Pools went all Digital and some went National/International. Some are legit pools based on the old model but some are just grabbing tracks from other pools and sources and collecting a membership fee with no real service from the labels.

The Sticky that Strike It Up loves is still there from 2004 scratchlive.net , but some of those pools/sources have closed, been shut down, or changed.

I am currently a member of www.idjpool.com (plus two free pools - 1200squad and greenhitz.com but don't use em much).

We need a new sticky one day soon, maybe somebody will start it one day.

Hope that answered your question...

Better question is WHY YOU NEED A RECORD POOL...

Best answer I found is here:

personally i lvoe having my various MP3 and CD pools allows me to stay current as well as not have to always run out tuesdays/fridays to get the tracks. i know that every month i get some CDs thats have been mastered, radio edited & correctly titled (track name, artist, BPM, etc.) Or when i have some downtime i can log on & download whateva new music it out and not have to deal w/ file sharing sites, miss named tracks, virus and so on.

Some MP3 pools are free usually just have to review the tracks prior to downloading while others charge a monthly fee wheither you download 1 or 1001 tracks (which beats itunes @ $1 per song). As for the CD pools most charge a yearly fee unless you go month to month (usually costs more this way). Finally most labels and reps can be contacted and you can get the music sent to you in either or both formats for free.

Art, you should submit that post to wikipedia
