i find that playing older music you don't really understand and personally appreciate is impossible though. in other words, if it didn't already occur to you to play these records or you don't have never been to parties where these records might be played, you probably can't look at a crowd and figure out the right time to drop records like this. you really have to know the psychology of that crowd: what they will think is cool, vs just old. flavorful vs too mainstream.
