Help composing a Rock Set

DJ Irv 12:53 AM - 5 March, 2007
I am thinking i want a rock party set with a Seven Nation Army, Killers, Foo Fighters & Nirvana kind of feel. Any suggestions on songs that rock out?
Dj Kimozave 3:12 AM - 5 March, 2007
Try to set up some amp, drum set, guitars & keyboards. I think that would complete your rock set. Hit 'em wit some guns n roses...tini-ni-nu-ni-nu-niw! Sweet child of mine! Yeah! don't forget to head bang too.
DJ Irv 4:01 AM - 5 March, 2007
You've been a great help Kimozave - salamot. I already have a lot of rock so this is more an opinion question on what you think gets the crowd moving. For the record I am not rock DJ I just want to be able to do a rock set one day. tini-ni-nu-ni-nu-niw!
Crown 4:08 AM - 5 March, 2007
van halen (not van hagar) - jump, hot for teacher ect...
ac/dc - too obvious to even name individual songs.
metallica - sad but true.
faith no more - epic
quiet riot - cum on feel the noise.
modest mouse - float on

this is just what i thought of in the last 20 seconds, but i could go on for days...

just remember to practice those david lee roth high kicks!
Diñolito 5:06 AM - 5 March, 2007
Sweet child o' mine has been played out in my opinion. Guys like 2Many DJ's have been playing it in mashup sets for quite a while.
Other Gn'R stuff would be dope though. Locomotive for instance. Slash has some killer guitar riffs.

RATM - killing in the name
Metallica - Wherever I May Roam
Peppers - Give It Away
Blur - Song 2 (another hyped one, but works garanteed, especially because you can easily loop the intro drum)
djskeetz 5:15 AM - 5 March, 2007
weezer - hash pipe.
DJ Irv 4:21 PM - 5 March, 2007
you guys are great help. I am digging thru these records trying to find a routine. Usually I stay away from routines but since I will not be doing rock sets all the time it shouldn't sound repetitive.
djskeetz 4:34 PM - 5 March, 2007
whoooooooooooooooooooooooooa were half way there!

whoooooooooooooooooooooooooa (___________________)!!!
dj fluffylumpkins 4:34 PM - 5 March, 2007

pantera - the walk
disturbed
nickleback (for the chickies)
Korn - freak on a leash
Du hast (not rock but fun to drop in)
a small hair band medley
etc
etc

rock mix 1.mp3 - 6.00MB

Here's a real short mix that I did with the same idea in mind, just wanted to to see how it sounds, if I knew more about rock I would probably do a whole cd, it's fun and sounds dope.
DJ Irv 5:56 PM - 5 March, 2007
actually i grew up in Jerz I know "Living on a Prayer" all too much
DJ Irv 6:00 PM - 5 March, 2007
still, I am thinking more along the lines of modern rock like, killers, White Strips, blah blah blah. You know that fast rock.
DJ Irv 6:04 PM - 5 March, 2007
Damn Nick that's very clean mixing on rock. I need to pratice.

Nice.
DJ Nick Lee 6:34 PM - 5 March, 2007
I'm sure you can rock like that too irv, you just gotta be able to tap the record down so the tracks fall on beat. Unfortunatly not too many opertunities come up where these songs would be appropriate. I've been commisioned to provide tunes for rock shows a few times though and that audience was super feelin it though.
dj cubicle 6:52 PM - 5 March, 2007
That silly rock and roll music. It'll never catch on, it's just a phase.
djskeetz 6:56 PM - 5 March, 2007
ive never heard of any of those songs past the first one?
DJ Irv 7:18 PM - 5 March, 2007
exactly crown, exactly.
Diñolito 8:08 PM - 5 March, 2007
I've got a 7" from Wolfmother. They have some killer riffs too. Totally bringin' back the Led Zeppelin sound.

The Strokes
Arctic Monkeys of course
Crown 9:09 PM - 5 March, 2007
Just about anything from the hives is good - nick used "hate to say i told you so" in his mix.

A lot of beck's stuff will work too (devil's haicut comes to mind).
Diñolito 9:15 PM - 5 March, 2007
Devils' haircut is awesome, though I would incorporate it in a hiphop mix rather than in a rock mix I guess.
Releaux 9:55 PM - 5 March, 2007
These are obviously all over the map, but might be additional fun things to throw in depending on the vibe. Some might be leaning too close to other genres, but if you want to mix things up on different sets I'd also consider:

White Zombie, More Human Than Human
Rammstein, Stripped (Depeche Mode cover)
Foo Fighters, I'll Stick Around, Everlong
Disturbed, Stupify
Godsmack, Whatever (the song, "Whatever" =-)
Stone Temple Pilots, Sex Type Thing
Nine Inch Nails, The Hand that Feeds, We're In This Together
Marilyn Manson, New Model No. 15
The Smithereens, Blues Before & After
Monster Magnet, Space Lord
Stabbing Westward, Shame
Led Zeppelin, Trampled Under Foot, D'Yer Mak'er
Pearl Jam, Evenflow
Metallica, Enter Sandman
Sugar, If I Can't Change Your Mind
AC/DC (like others have said... just throw a dart)
Smashing Pumpkins, Bullet With Butterfly Wings
Living Colour, Cult of Personality
Motorhead, Born To Raise Hell
Rick Derringer, Rock & Roll Hoochie Koo
Temple of the Dog, Your Saviour
Def Leppard - Photograph
Nickelback - (Whichever version of their hit you feel like)
Evanescence - Going Under

And if you're up for rap-rock,

Beastie Boys, Sabotage
Rage Against The Machine, Bulls On Parade
Limp Bizkit, Nookie
Linkin Park, One Step Closer

Any chance of a tracklisting for that?

Thanks

hate to say i told you so - the hives - veni vidi vicious - 2000
i'm shakin' - rooney - rooney - 2003
Nicky Blunt 1:00 PM - 26 March, 2007
How come no ones mentioned - Ozzy! Man Ozzy & Sabbath have some wicked tracks!

Mixmaster mike was the tour dj for metallica or some rock band and used to do a tablist set with all the rock classics!

See if you can d/l one of them somewhere.

They are phat like rosanne!
MusicMeister 1:18 PM - 26 March, 2007
If you're wanting some modern stuff you can always play
Buckcherry
Kid Rock
NiN
GodSmack

But for the older stuff there have been some great recommendation but pull out the 80's hair bands and the 'classics'. Remember that it also depends how 'hard' you want to go.... There are some pretty hardcore rock groups out there cranking out speed metal that would make mixing drum n' bass look easy...

AC/DC
Whitesnake
Cinderella
Poison
Ugly Kid Joe
Ratt
Bonham
Led Zepplin
Aerosmith
GnR
Rolling Stones
Aldo Nova
Alice Cooper
Anthrax
Billy Idol
Blue Oyster Cult
Bon Jovi
The Cult (also Death Cult and Southern Death Cult)
Dream Theatre
Foreigner
LA Guns
Dokken
Ministry
Slayer
Styx
Twisted Sister
Van Halen
David Lee Roth
Sammy Hagar
Vince Neil
Motley Crue
White Lion
Warrant
Black Crows
Bad Company
D.A.D.
Def Leppardd
Faster Pussycat
Gary Lewis & The Playboys
Lita Ford
Ozzy Osbourne
Megadeath
Queensryche
Judas Priest
Lynch Mob

I won't go into individual songs.... but if you can't find the basis for a 6+ hour rock set in the above list you need to pack up your shit, go home, and find another job/career. ;-)

And people wonder why I have over 70,000 tracks...
