Anyone rockin the UDG Creator Serato bag yet?

JD 6:44 AM - 26 February, 2007
If so, what is your review of the product?

oh, BTW, is pricey, but it looks VERY professional. a tool for serious djs...

(although im not one of them, it makes me feel it! :P)

Hi BassChanber - I have been considering this bag myself as well as the Headliner Stashpack. Did you do a comparison of the two before choosing UDG? If so, what swayed you that way over the Headliner? Do you happen to have any pics of the inside compartments?
E-Double 5:13 PM - 28 April, 2007
I just picked up one of the Creator bags and aside from getting used to the size (I was rocking the Odyssey Shuttle Bag) it's definitely solid. Worth $250? Almost. I was waiting for the new line of Headliner Bags to drop but they're taking to long...
JD 7:10 PM - 28 April, 2007
Thanks for the reviews... ill look into it.. im currently on my 2nd Gig Skinz bag
DJ Enferno 11:45 PM - 28 April, 2007
Very solid bag. It's a little heavy, but it's very well made. You can fit a TTM57 in the inside compartment. It also has a pull out 'raincoat' that covers the bag, in case of rain, which I've used a couple of times. The back compartment is great to put any papers, pens, Ipods etc. I love UDG ;)
Soulsonica™ 11:51 PM - 28 April, 2007
Just got a UDG Creator myself recently and am extremely pleased so far. VERY professional item. Pricey, yes, but well worth it IMO. Like most things, you get what you pay for. Top notch materials, design, and construction. I would've liked to have compared the UDG Creator with the Headliner Stashpack, but got tired of waiting for it to be available.

Pre-release, a lot of people thought this wouldn't sell because the price is steep. It sold out at turntablelab.com first week it came out!
Evil_banana 8:54 AM - 3 May, 2007
Ok guys, The bag is really cool and really sturdy, but pleeeeeeeease answer this one for me. I've asked the question to different persons but nobody could answer me.

The specs say that you can fit the following things in the bag:
- Laptop
- SL 1 interface
- Space for your TTM 57SL, TTM 56 or Empath mixer
- Vinyl (up to 25 pieces)
- Headphones
- Needle case
- Cables
But it never states that you can fit all these things in the bag at the SAME time.

My question is, if you put your laptop (a small Macbook in my case) and your TTM57 in there... How much space is there left for vinyls? How many pieces can you get in there?

I always take a few vinyls with me, for emergency. You never know when bad things happen. But I hate to take along yet another recordbag in addition to the backpack. Consolidation and easy setup is the way I like it (also the reason why I bought the TTM57)
Soulsonica™ 3:54 PM - 3 May, 2007
Hi Evil - I don;t think I would never consider carrying my Rane Empath in the backpack (I have an ATA case for it), but when I first got my UDG Creator, I test fitted the Empath just to see. Here's everything I got comfortably in it:

Apple Macbook Pro 15 Laptop
Apple Macbook Pro 15 Power Supply
Apple iPod Video 80GB
LitLab Uberstand Laptop Stand
Rane Empath Mixer
18 Vinyls (including 3 RSSL Control Vinyls)
10 CD/DVD Discs (including 4 RSSL Control CDs)
Sony MDR-7506 Headphones
Rane/Serato SL Interface
Rane/Serato SL Power Supply
Shure MCC Cartridge/Styli Carry Case
3 6' USB Cables
6 6' RCA Cables
1 10' 12VAC Extension Cord
1 12VAC 3-way Splitter
2 Flashlights
2 Pens
2 Markers
Gruv Glide
Canon SD500 Digital Camera
Keys

There was still some room to spare for a few loose items. With the Empath out of the bag, I fit about 40 Vinyls. Hope this helps. This bag rocks.

wow, that's nice. My only complaint is (just like my headliner backpack) it's too damn big. It must be really heavy. I use a coffin so I don't need to fit a mixer in my bag so both the headliner and UDG bag are bigger than I need. The newest headliner backpack seems to be a better bag for me. Thanks for the pics Soulsonica.

I seen it but I love the odyssey serato bag it's off the hook. I got the bag and stand for $80 ( maybe a little less) but it's like $129 everywhere!

Is that where the laptop is supposed to go? lol

You have a really nice camera.
Evil_banana 8:35 AM - 4 May, 2007
Oh my gawd!!! This bag is really awesome! I can fit all my crap in there and throw in a few extra records... PERFECT!!!

I think I've found a new thing to save for :o). Consolidation!!! Then I'd only have to bring my 2 flightcases with the TT's and the backpack... I could carry my entire setup 1 one time. No more running back and forth 10 times to get my stuff onloaded from the car, while in the meantime leaving unguarded the stuff I already unloaded.

Perfect! If I make a little cover to protect the knobs and faders of my mixer, then there's no risc in putting everything together.

thanks a lot Soulsonica!!!!

Actually Evil, there is padded, ribbed, removable shield that already comes with the UDG Creator that the mixer slip into and protects it from the other interior gear. You just cant see it in the pics because of the angle. Here's some manufacturer's pics where the divider can be seen better (although for some reason they show records inside the divider/protector rather than the mixer, but trust me, the mixer is supposed to go there.) i177.photobucket.com

PS: To all the peeps who complain about the bag being "too big" - What is it that you want? I fail to understand this comment because if you want to carry ALL the gear in one shot, then the bag needs to be a particular size and this is it (simple physics here). There's no extra room for stuff you don't need, just the right amount of space for everything you do. This is a "products specific" designed bag. Only way around this is to go with smaller, multiple bags, but that defeats the whole purpose and solution that this bag fulfills. Besides, it's not like your hiking cross country with it for crying out loud - rather your typically just taking short jaunts between modes of transportation and event venues.

Myez, I know it's a padded and speratated compartiment, so no other stuff break off a knob or something. But I like to take care of my material and I don't really like the idea of putting pressure on the knobs from the stuff that is in the other compartiments. I was thinking about bending a small metal cover, that you can slide over the top-plate and fits perfectly. So all pressure comes to the plate and is transferred to the top-plate of the mixer (which can take that without problems) and not to the knobs and faders.

Of course I haven't tried myself with the bag yet, perhaps it appears unnecessary at all. But still... I love my equipment. So better safe than sorry, especially with over 3500 Euros worth of equipment to go in the bag.

My stuff still looks like new (except for the smell) and I'd like to keep it that way. 1210's and a TTM57 look way too cool to be molested :oD.
grrillatactics 2:52 PM - 4 May, 2007
Soulsonca, thanks for the great pics. I have been toying with the idea of getting this bag, and it looks like it is exactly what I am looking for.

All things considered, I think the price is ok as long as the bag holds up well and protects my gear.

Not sure. I don't think it will. However, I do think it will fit under seat in front of you. Reason I'm guessing it will is because I just took a similiar size/shaped bag that was filled with same gear with me to Ultra Music Festival and it fit there just fine.

It fits in the overhead compartment, but you have to lay it on it's back. Just take your laptop out of the bag and put it under the seat in front of you.

I have the Odyssey shuttle bag with wheels and it fits everything:
57
8 records
laptop cooler
headphones
Shure cart box
power supplies and a bunch of other accessories.

plus it's on wheels, so you don't have to lug it around on your back. I'm not sure how the straps are on the creator bag, but if not designed right, the straps would put alot of compression on the items inside the bag. Thus, compressing you knobs on you mixer, laptop...etc.

The shuttle bag also fits in the overhead on planes. Besides the alright ( top handle in starting to fray, but it's also been on about 15 trips and 6 months of weekly gigs)construction, it's a pretty good bag. Definitly worth $120. Definitly check it out.

I just took delivery of my UDG creator bag - I read this topic the other week and with out being able to go check one out for real, I took a gamble and ordered one online on Thursday.

First impressions I'm happy - it looks solid though larger that what I originally thought. It looks it will defo do the job; though I guess I'll only know for sure when I'm out and about with it. I play out twice a week, so I'm sure it will get some serious use. Previously I was using a bag I've owned since the mid 90s which again was solid, how ever I pretty much had to force everything in so the Creator is a welcoming change.

The fact that it arrived in a box speaks volumes about presentation for me.

My missus goes travelling and has some pretty nice kit, she's going to Killimanjaro next year and to be honest I don't think the bag would look out of place half way up a mountain.

Has anyone travelled out of the UK with one and managed to get it via hand luggage - I'm off to Ibiza in the Summer and was hoping I could take it on board the plane.

OMG, i cant even read through the whole thread im soooooo jealous!!! i was about to drop loot on one last week, then realized that if i didnt, i could get a MBP sooner!

As for size, i used to be hardcore into skateboarding, so the size of the UDG bag is perfect. the one thing that would make this backpack the 'ULTIMATE SHIT' would be to have a skateboard holster strap too!

btw, i was sold by the 'sternum straps' alone! fuck yeah.

Mine arrived 10 minutes ago. Looks real cool, even better than what I expected, especially with ALL them little compartments and what not. One question though - how do you guys put your mixer(s) in (I have TTM57) ? Which side up/down, and which way do you point the knobs & faders? Or is there no difference, really?

swavek 5:26 PM - 8 June, 2007
bummer!! I just tried fitting my 17" MBP into the Creator's "laptop compartment" - no go! I can of course fit it into the "mixer / vinyls compartment", but I was hoping for some room there for a spare t-shirt, a towel, or whatever I need if I go out for 2-3 days... no good. or at least - not quite as good as I thought. 15" and below - no problem, though.
djnonsense 2:30 AM - 9 June, 2007
How does the 17" mbp fit in the mixer compartment? Does it have any cushion for it? I wander if it would fit in the Healiner bag? Where are you guys getting the UGD bag from?

what I mean is, there's a larger compartment, divided into two parts, for your mixer and your vinyls, and the 17" goes into the vinyls part, along with the vinyls (especially since I only carry with me 4 control vinyls and nothing else). But - the space provided for the laptop is pretty tight, and too narrow for vinyls, so as of now I can't think of any use for it. But I'm sure something'll come to me, though.

As for padding, cushions etc. - I can't think of any other bag I've ever seen padded as well as this one, so no worries there.

I've had the headliner bag since last winter, and I love it. . This bag looks pretty much like my headliner bag. The UDG bag took too long to come out, and it's about double the price. My headliner bag fits all of the same sh-t, laptop, headphones, SSL box, USB cables, RCAs, Needles, ipod, cellphone charger, and about 15 pieces of vinyl (w/laptop in the bag).

It's heavy, but not too uncomfortable - I might not be the one to ask about the weight on your back though, I ammmm in the infantry.. Oh well, it's comfortable to me :)

Looks like the same material that the UDG bag is made of too, so . . . there's my 2 cents!

Hmmmm...everything I've read about the Headliner bag says that it can't carry/doesn't have room for a mixer, while the UDG bag does. I'm guessing that's why it's double the price? (That and the materials, the LED light, etc.) Or could you fit your mixer in the Headliner bag instead of the 20 records?

Thanks for the awesome pics Soulsonica, totally made me more informed. Now I'm just trying to figure out whether to get the UDG bag, or just get a flight case for my TTM57SL, and just use a normal gym bag or MEC/Crumpler laptop bag for everything else.

Unfortunately after only less than 1.5 years of use, the same Odyssey bag that I have is in bad condition. The sides have ripped and it is sometimes a pain in the ass to carry up a flight of stairs. I can't wait to get rid of it and replace it with something that's built better and the Creator bag looks pretty sharp so far.

BTW I'm surprised to see that almost NO ONE carries a spare laptop with them. Why is that? What if your lappy crashes at a gig and doesn't work again the whole night? I'm so paranoid that I just have to carry an extra lappy with me at all gigs, which makes for a bit of a heavier load to carry but worth it nonetheless.

But I digress...

I DO NOT recommend the Odyssey bag, especially if you carry all the shit that y'all be having on your list of things to bring with you.

What I'm about to bring up is kind of a "moot point" since I'm picking up my bag in about 45 minutes..lol! But, I've been looking through all of the posts regarding this bag, and absolutely NOBODY has talked about an external Hard Drive fitting in the bag! I figured with all of the extra pockets, my plan is to NOT put my 57 mixer in the bag, but instead put my Roland S404, and my hard drive in that same space.

I use one of the Swiss Army laptop backpacks. The thing is a tank and i would never use anything else. Seperate compartments for Ext HD/SL1/laptop/headphones/cords plus like 15 extra pockets that i dont use. Steal braded re-enforced strap... thing is niiiice

I wanted to buy the UDG Creator bag until I saw it at the DJ expo in Atlantic City.
That thing is too heavy and I carry a lot of stuff (Two laptops, two dual bay external Hard drives two Uberstands and more).

I ended up buying the Jansport Exchange bag. It's almost as big as the UDG but a lot lighter.

I posted pictures of it here.

I was finally ready to bite the bullet for a bag in this price range, and so I picked up the Headliner Roadpack Plus. It is a serious mammer-jammer sized bag, and for the most part I like it, but it has the drawback of my new laptop not fitting in it (it is close; so very, very close...).

Now, my laptop is about the size of a monster truck, measuring 11.75" x 15.5" x 2.35". To any of the owners of the Creator, do you think that my laptop will fit in the laptop compartment on the Creator? I am sending the Headliner back either way, and I guess I will exchange it for the Creator, but if you cats can inform me up front if my laptop has no chance of fitting, I can save myself some time and just return the Headliner and look elsewhere.

Thanks in advance!

The bag is nice and well built but it seems like a lot of things like headphones, records, and mixer fit really tight in it. I broke to knobs on my 57 taking it in and out of the bag and had to send it back to Rane for repairs which I gotta say Rane support is the awesome.. It is also really heavy with everything in it. I think I am just gonna buy a case for my 57.

this may be a dumb question but can you fit a 56 in a case in this bag? I dont know if I wanna put my 56 in this bag without a case and end up breaking some shit like dj phatal just said.

If you didn't carry a mixer around with you, how many records do you think you could carry in the back?
DJ Rugged One 5:43 PM - 15 September, 2008
I recently bought the UDG Serato bag and it is durable fits everything I need but a little concern about my 57 mixer when I put in the main compartment. Not really satisfied but it is a good bag thouhg. Willing to try the Headliner Road Backpack bag so we'll see.

Not sure how many records you can put but it should hold enough w/o the mixer.

I'm thinking of buying one but i'm kinda confused. I did a quick search and there seems to be a few different variations, theres the U8000BL, the U8001BL and the U8003BL. What is the difference between them, if any at all?

want to hear my review... 1 year after purchase?

good and bad tbh.

The zips all broke, the stiching went and the light died about a month after i got it. I got it replaced after a bit of a winge though. Without the mixer cover you will undoubtedly lose the feet from you mixer and bend the headphone cue fader as well as loose varios dials. The annoying and pointless rubber studs are mostly to blame for that.

its great to have so many purpose made pockets as now everything i gig with has a home and i never forget to take anything.

When its full, it sticks out a lot and hurts your back and shoulders to carry it for a long time. the new compact version might be the one for me if i can still squeeze a 57/control vinyl and mac in.

another question... what is with all the packaging? a box ffs? then a bag in a bag?

conclusion:

great idea,
over priced considering you dont get the mixer cover or vinyl and laptop hard cases included,
great waterproof cover,
poor quality zips,
could do with a lightweight telescopic handle with low profile wheels built in.
stupid packaging,
annoying rubber studs

*rant over*

All the stuff you mention except for the zipper part which I haven't dealt yet cause it's practically new is true. The bag is heavy when you have alot of stuff also it's big too. A little concern about putting the 57 but there is a way you can protect it from the studs. Overall is a good bag but are something that lack. That is why I'm gonna buy the Headliner bag to see how it is and possibly use it as a backup or bascically use it all the time.
Klaw 1:19 AM - 7 January, 2009
Hey Serato fam,
I bought the Creator pack about 6 months ago. I use it for gigs and traveling to gigs every week and it works great. However after about 2 months it started to fall apart. ( See photos here -- momslittlemonsters.files.wordpress.com -- It sucks because I associated the great products that Rane makes with the construction of this bag and I was willing to pay the extra dough for it, but I gotta say that I don't feel that UDG came correct here. Products should not fall apart doing what they are specifically built to do and if you carry 10 records, your laptop needles and a change of clothing which is what I pack this thing falls apart.
I am sad shit is not cheap.
Unfortunately I lost the receipt to get this in for a RA # so looks like its going on to the DJ bag bone yard with my Burton bag, my gig skins bag, a heavy ass pelican case and various laptop backpack bags.....ugh. I guess I am trying to get one of these headliner bags and see how long they last.
If anybody has a connect with the returns dept at UDG or Serato pass along this post.

Thanks

Off the subject but finally bought the Headliner Serato bag which is this www.turntablelab.com and should've bought this bag a long time ago and really diggin' the bag. It fits good and not to compact, also light too !!!

Still got the UDG bag but might sell it or keep it if I have to bring my mixer to gigs just in case but will end up getting a hard case to protect the mixer.

The Headliner bag is dope and definitely recommend it.

Dayum. You guys killed my infatuation with this bag. Been wanting to get it since forever, but not anymore.

When something is expensive and breaks easily, it is a rip off (e.g., my Technics headphones that cost me over $140 and broke within a year).
Deejay Z 5:27 AM - 7 January, 2009
Well, dont get me wrong the bag is GREAT! But you said it, If I pay good money $200 for a bag I expect it not to rip and tear. My LED light also broke on the 2nd one a week after.

I think im goin for this one:

i have one too, about 1/2 year.. the only problem for me is that is too big..
also i started to have problems with the zippers. broken..

i have a doubt. can we bring this to a plane? flight in the overhead compartiment?
isn t too big for this new flight rules?
i will have a few foreing gigs in Europe and a friend told me that is too big to bring inside the plain.
i am thinking about the new magma digi trolley.. but 200eur is too much.
any feedbacks?

I've posted about the Jansport Exchange bag many times (I also have pictures on one of the threads).

djdragon 5:39 AM - 5 May, 2009
I use this UDG bag www.udggear.com in black. Just the top part (I have the set tho'), and it's holds a TTM57SL (mind you I made a custom foam top to protect the faders) and I still have room for CV and a few more records and all my cables n' stuff.
Nintendub 10:10 AM - 15 July, 2009
arrghh this is doing my brain in!
i want a headliner stashpack (udg is too expensive and too big for planes) but i cant get it here! grrr
pathetic
so what else do i have as an option?
i want a backpack, that will defo fit within these dimensions: 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22ins x 18ins x 10ins) so it can go on planes (yes the udg creator bag IS too big, WAY too big)
so what do you guys recommend?
any help would be great as im stumped and need to stop lugging 2 bags around!
rane/serato shud fix up and make a smaller bag for people who need to take a serato setup and some vinyls (no mixer) on flights!
sorry to rant
any recommendations?

yes.. it can. a pionneer or a ttm.
i have mine to sell once its too big for me to travel and to put in the hand luggage in overhead place on a plane.. but never had a problem with it . its very durable and useful.

dj_KaSE 3:19 AM - 24 August, 2009
Well if you think about it, that bag -- and others of similar size -- will practically hold everything but your mixer. So for most gigs, I would think you just have to have your backpack and just carry your mixer in a small case or bag.

My backpack is a Targus laptop back that fits everything I need, including a backup laptop, and I carry my mixer in a small duffel bag. In fact, carrying a backpack and that duffel bag doesn't draw as much attention to would-be jackers as it would if I'd be carrying a flight case.

+1 targus bag and duffel ..i got a gig that i have to walk couple blocks from parking garage ..bought my flight case for mixer with one night walking through garage and over hear bet you he got some gear on him come from behind me ..let them see my friend and it was coo ..but after that i use the duffel and foam....then they just think I'm homeless...
dj_KaSE 4:08 AM - 24 August, 2009
Yup, I got that idea after having to gig in Hollywood a few times, where parking can be a huge pain in the arse. Walking a few blocks is good exercise, but I wouldn't want the attention that a flight case brings.
Joshua Carl 8:05 PM - 24 August, 2009
YEAH.
i would never put my 57 in anything BUT an ATA certified flight case.
shits way too expensive not to have th ultimate protection.

alot of the bags are gorgeous, but Id rather rock the bag, and my case.

When I was at Office Depot yesterday, I noticed a dope-looking Swiss backpack for around $80. Looked very comfortable, had enough space for two laptops, external hard drive, etc., and had tons of cool little pockets.
PhoenixUK 4:01 AM - 8 November, 2009
I got a UDG creator, the light never worked. I called UDG support, and their response was "it's only a light, is it important enough to replace the bag for?" Then they said they would send out a replacement light unit.

Not surprisingly, i never received the replacement light unit. I know it's only a light, but it's mighty handy when you're searching for a vinyl in the dark! I chased them up, and they fobbed me off with an "it's in the post".

Bag .. great .... support ... crap!

Buy one, use it ... hope it never breaks !!
westell54 4:43 AM - 8 November, 2009
I had the same problem with mine too. I pestered them for almost 2 months before they actually sent me the light module. I have a long list of apologizing emails telling me they were gonna ship me a new one. The funny thing is, I originally asked them for a price for a replacement light and they are the ones who offered to send me a new one. As far as the bag goes, it's solid and holds everything. If it has a downside to it, I'd have to say it's a little on the heavy side. everything is protected and nothing has ever been scratched. It holds my VCI-300, 15" MBP, SL3 box, headphones, cables, hard drives, etc...

Love it!!!

Whats the difference between the regular Creator Backpack and the Compact version?! Everyones talking bout the bag damaging their mixer. I also have a 57 and plan on lugging it around in the Backpack, surely it wont get damaged if I buy one of those MFC-1's to put on top as Phoenix recommended?! Ive been using the Magma Battle Bag which comes with this little pouch for a Mixer, its not really padded but up to now nothing has happened to my 57, its in mint condition. I think Im prolly going to get the Compact?! Can I fit my 57, 13" MBP in Crumpler Case, Ortofons, 5 Vinyls, Headphones and power supply, usb cable etc. inside the bag or should I go with the big one?! The compact is a lot cheaper and if it does the job I will go with that one!

If you do get one of these for your fella, please please please make sure he gets the foam protector for the mixer, you can find it here rane.com under accessories, it's the MFC 1 Mixer Foam Cover, it's for the TTM57 Mixer, but if he's got a different mixer, he will need something similar. It protects the knobs and sliders when in transit, and is REQUIRED unless you want things to slowly break !!

Other than that, the bag is great ... he'll love it !! :)

Happy Christmas !

so just a thought to all you creator bags out there..i like the producer bag better!!! you think i could fit a ttm 56 with the foam top and a 15" laptop with 2 cvs in that main compartment? let me know....as a side note...these dj bag companies really don't seem like they have any dj testers...the designs always seem to be wanting of something better...i mean for crisssakes, make a creator bag where the mixer part is in the front most part of the bag, and make a damn molded pvc piece for the front half of that bag, and double layer the outside of it with the nylon stuff, and keep the backpack straps area the plush stuff...shouldn't they have thought of this already? or do i sense a true capitalistic scheme here? lol

so in the big area of the main compartment (in front of the laptop section) there isn't supposed to be anything but 'space'? no dividers or anything?

only reason i ask is because i have seen pictures of this bag and it looks a little different mines.

ya should be big space in front. if there was a divider i think it came out to make that open space.

so in the big area of the main compartment (in front of the laptop section) there isn't supposed to be anything but 'space'? no dividers or anything?

only reason i ask is because i have seen pictures of this bag and it looks a little different mines.

No dividers in the main department.
There are two different UDG backpacks, the "big" one (for laptops up to 17") and the smaller one (called Compact UDG Backpack - for laptops up to 15").

57 and 62 easily fits in the udg creator. the compact can hold a 62 and a laptop, but it's a tight fit. also carrying a mixer in the bag is kind of iffy. faders, knobs and buttons can get damaged very easily unless you use decksaver.

We are eq dist at my company and i love them. Great skins and a great product. I have a serato udg to and love it. My eq holds as much as my udg. EQ is having a sale right now so jump on it. we get 10% off.

If you mean the bit of toughened foam that stops the use creator from damaging all your knobs and faders, then yes it does ;)

*udg creator
Dj Nyce 7:58 PM - 7 January, 2014

Yeah, just watch the rubber feet on the mixer. I've had one pop off while taking it in/out the bag. Other than that, no complaints.

Has anyone got the creator compact backpack? I've been thinking about getting one, but I'm worried it won't fit all my stuff in it. I carry:

15" MacBook Pro
Serato Box
Denon HC1000s
Headphones
4 control vinyl
4 control cd's
Laptop charger
