nick, your sldz1200 cd players are already on their way to making it to your worst ever list.

i don't even have to try hard to break these things down. they are like a clinic in bad purchase decisions. yeah, yeah, tell me it's me fault for not researching properly. i've heard it all before.

luckily, using them with serato or some other software makes most of the issues irrelevant but there is still enough there to get steamed about.

first of all, they were REALLY freaking expensive. i don't remember exactly how much but i am guessing i paid $750 each for these paperweights. i've never owned the pimpish m5gs but for $750x2 i could have got some with money to spare. blue lights, digital stuff, all that.

they had a really cool concept working with the moving platter. however, i think denon does it better, hell i've even grown to tolerate the dead cdj platter. at this point i actually like the cdj platter better.

mp3 support is fubar, finicky and just bad. beat counter with no manual overide, or tap or id3 tag bpm support is nearly laughable.

the fact that you can't play regular mp3s from the sd card is, well, incomprehensible.

sldz takes FOREVER to read discs, sometimes stops playing in the middle of a song for no reason. ill.

this post is already too long, and i don't even feel like i've scratched the surface of what's wrong with the sldz. it's bad. pleasebelivit.

Prodjcases.com Coffin (single worst purchase EVER)

Can you tell me why?

Within the next couple months, I am going to need a custom built coffin to house whichever mixer I choose (DJM-800 or Korg Zero-4), 2 Technics 1210M5G's, a CDJ-1000, and room from my laptop as well. There are only 2 places (I've been able to find) to get custom coffins, which are prodjcase.com & roadreadycases.com

I was going to go with prodjcase.com, because of their longevity in the scene. They've been around a long time, so I figured they made quality cases......Let me know

Stanton Trackmaster needles (back in the day circa `96)

the case i bought was nothing special. 2 technics sldz1200, 10inch mixer, wheels. that's it. it cost me about $650 and i paid for RUSH build and delivery. took nearly three months to make and i had to keep calling them every couple days and they would tell me they were gonna get to it. when i finally got the case it was a piece of crap that did not support the equipment from banging around inside the coffin, flimsy interior, etc.

i picked up an off the shelf road ready a few weeks later at guitar center, about $200 if i recall. that case has been in use ever since. it's the shit. damn good investment.

You should've asked if the warranty covered "Nevada."

I got the eon's ( love them) we used them for new years with other set's we have but if you get any, Just make sure you know how to set them up ( I don't care I've seen BIG ASS NAME DJ'S red line it like they were kid's)( radio or not) JUST never let other DJ's touch them!!!!!

Most DJ's don't know how to set up and they red line it all the time and peak the shit out of your shit!

you'll make your money back in less then a year and the turnaround on them are a kill!

Don't get proline ( Guitar Center) stand's they suck ass, Go to americanmusical.com and get on-stage stand's!

I was going to buy the mackies but they had so many people saying bad things about them that I just got the eon's...

Is it ture that when you call them for help they always make it sounds like it was you who fucked their shit up?

My homie only had his $1200 ( EA) mackies for 7mos ( needs to send them for a fix!)
Dj KaGeN 1:12 AM - 8 February, 2007
there are 2 things that KILL speakers. Stupidity and Distortion. As a speaker manufacturer testing speakers everyday, their lively-hood is banging on the gear. You really think they are making crap drivers? Or might have lacked a little common sense while you were drinking, spinning, hitting the reds, crankin the knobs, using effects unwisely and then you point the finger at the speakers.. Ya - no wonder they think you mucked it up.. I have been a big supporter of Mackie (SRM450,SR1530 & a recent purchase of SA1232's) Play wisely and the gear will last.
Rebelguy 1:53 AM - 8 February, 2007
I gotta keep it real about the Mackie's. I bought a pair back in 2001. Took them to a New Year's Eve party to run as a monitor for the DJ booth. I used them as floor monitors for about an hour before they went into thermal shutdown. Check most of the sound reinforcement forums and you will see that this is a VERY common problem. So much so that many Sound Reinforcement companies that keep them for rental stock provide fans for the back panel to keep them cool. They are decent speakers for the money but the move to China for manufacturing and the installation of lower quality components is only going to hurt there image over the long run. Want to get a nice pair of powered speakers? Check into the RCF ART-322A. This cabinent blows away the Mackie in Sound Quality and performance.

what do you think about B-52's?

by the way have you seen the new JBL's? people are saying good thing about them?

Best:
Rane 56
Rane 57
1200s
Shure M44G's
Basically everything I use in my current setup

Worst:
Used Gemini belt-drive decks (XL-10's or something I think)
Used Gemini 19" 4-channel mixer (I don't think it even had eq's)
Basically everything from my first setup

As an aside I noticed some people mentioned the Gemini PS-676 and UMX-9 as some of the worst buys. I had/have both of them (both collecting dust now), but I didn't think they were that bad (not good buys, either). I bought both used - probably spent $250 combined on the two - but they did the job. The sampler on the 676 went out on a lot of them, but mine never did. And the UMX-9 was my first mixer with curve control, and it was actually pretty good, comparatively speaking. Of course it eventually bled, though.

To be honest I have never really heard the B-52s. Some DJs swear by them. As far as the JBL PRX line, not sure either. It depends on who is saying good things about them...would it be the salesperson? Haha. I really can't make a conclusion since they have only been out a couple of weeks. I will probably go take a listen to them at the GC near my house just to harass a salesperson there. It appears like they just smacked a Crown amp onto the MRX line but I could be wrong.
