embarrasing, How can these frauds sleep at night?
d:raf 12:06 AM - 9 June, 2010
Doesn't look like he's trying to scratch to me; just cueing up the transition to the Jay-Z song.

I must be missing something...
djpuma_gemini 12:10 AM - 9 June, 2010
he wasn't trying to scratch, he was more worried about the jay z track falling off beat.

What are you missing? The mix was pre recorded, He didnt mix in empire state of mind it was done for him and he pretended to mix it in, he never touched the mixer, hence he was fakin the funk.

i don't think he tried to fake the scratches, everyone knows those scratches
d:raf 12:14 AM - 9 June, 2010
Ahhh... ok, now I see. The comment about the scratches in "Boyz In The Hood" threw me off.
stevie o 12:15 AM - 9 June, 2010
i just watched he did touch the mixer but Im pretty sure it was still fraudulant
djchope 12:16 AM - 9 June, 2010
HATER-AID?
d:raf 12:17 AM - 9 June, 2010
I dunno... he definitely moved the crossfader, and that's pretty much all you'd need to pull off that mix.

Inconclusive.
djpuma_gemini 12:20 AM - 9 June, 2010
he mixed in empire state of mind on the right deck and he slide the fader to the right. Don't think it was pre-recorded
Doctorjon 12:24 AM - 9 June, 2010
LOL he may have been drunk and couldn't mix. It was just a bad transition to jay-z.

Same here. and I don't think he was even remotely trying to fake the scratches. He was mixing and grooving to the music so his movements were in beat with the music.

I think people are too quick to jump the gun when they hear of a celebrity DJing. But the truth of the matter is JD has been DJing for quite some time now. Years before Scratch Live came out he was doing guest spots at clubs here in Atlanta.

I know that...Thats what I mean...He also made it pretty obvious by stepping back a bit too seems like. It doesn't look like he tried fakin it at all.
DJ CISC0 12:34 AM - 9 June, 2010
ok wait I thought you were talking about the scratches and not the blend...He moved the fader over though.
kaput 12:41 AM - 9 June, 2010
i think his not a fraud looked convincing to me, liked some of the tracks :) the girl in white looks hot!
DJ Alkemy 12:43 AM - 9 June, 2010
You can look at a celebrity DJ and straight away you can tell if they belong behind the tables. Its just in the motion of there body and how relaxed they are when using the equipment. For my money, JD definately knows his shit. I might think his tracklist is pants but hey, thats another thread.
ninjagaijin 12:52 AM - 9 June, 2010
I think it was from IT Crowd the fake djing originally :)
djbambino 12:53 AM - 9 June, 2010
3 mixes, 2 spinbacks. Nuff said.
JDforKing 12:54 AM - 9 June, 2010
i dont get you people sometimes... he just moved the fader over how does that make him a fraud... i sense alot of jealousy in the forums sometimes... dont get upset because people much rather see him dj than you..he used to dj a long time ago.. no he isnt craze but he doesnt suck.
Mike_P 12:55 AM - 9 June, 2010
Naw he's mixing. & at least he's on beat and not clashing vocals. Those horrid backspins though, ugh. What gets me about this, is that not too long ago, this fool was talking shit about dj's saying they were no longer needed to break new shit & that they should not try to be superstars but know thier role & play the back. Fuck that & him.

sounds like dude cut out the middle man on the video... from what i heard dude ''mixed'' all the records on the 1st chorus of the song BUT at the end of the video his new single gets played up until the video ends with his song still unmixed and going strong... umm... o and by the way those scratches are from boyz n da hood and you can clearly see him touch the fader to mix the tracks... lame mix but drunk ppl can care less... dj's are other dj's worst critic

One day my TV was stuck on MTV's sweet 16 (i couldn't find the remote, feeling lazy and sh*t...LOL!!!) and the party that was thrown for the kid was DJ'd by JD. So as the show is going on they are flashing what everything cost. So when they show JD dj'n they flash on the screen "to have Jermaine Dupri be your DJ" would cost $500,000. Immediately I'm like WTF!!!! Thinking I was seeing things I immediatly got up and ironically found the remote inbetween the cushions on the couch. I have digital cable so I hit the rewind button just to confirm, cause I was like it must of said $5,000 (still to much but i'm sayin') and for sure it said $500,000. I'm like R U SERIOUS!!!! I know celebrity DJ is going to get some extra paper but that much? FOR JD!!!! Who's doing that...That's WAAAAAYYYYYY over priced...And I'm never the hating DJ but this disgusted me....*sigh*!!!

i do think they overestimate value on alot of the things on that show. If i had to guess they just ask and put what their told to to run up the total
djbigboy 3:00 PM - 10 June, 2010
I think JD is actually djing and probably does a great job. Everyone looks pretty happy. Hard to tell in the video how his actual mixing skills are, but based on what we saw, he knows his phrasing, knows how to do a spinback, I bet he rocks the party. Funny how he was playing so many west coast records. If I had my choice of celebrity djs to play at my party, I'd choose JD over just about anyone else....can't knock his hustle...he was even playing some dance/electro.
Dj-M.Bezzle 3:02 PM - 10 June, 2010
From what ive seen most good producers should be able to hold their own on the tables. I mean hearing temp and pitch and phrasing is all part of producing a tape so besides the physical touch of spinning they should have a great foundation. Thats why most producers start off as DJs and move into production

Easy to tell in the video how his actual mixing skills are, but based on what we saw, he blows his phrasing, knows how to do a spinback three times, I bet he sucks at the party. Funny how he was playing so many Lil Jon records. If I had my choice of celebrity djs to play at my party, I'd never choose JD over just about anyone else....can't rock his muscles...he was even playing some dance/electro, facepalm.

JD has been a Dj for YEARS, he's not faking. Watch the video again, and at this 2:10 mark we're discussing you can hear where the mix starts to give him trouble.(2:08) Forward to the babies during the Clinton Sparx chune, watch his hands during those random cuts, not only are they him but that would be a lot of random shit to remember just to fake a set.

I only needed to watch it once to know he's not faking, scratch that I didn't even need to watch because it's a known fact that JD dj's from time.

if you can't tell he's legit mixing by the first shot, then you have bigger issues with your dj skills than the fact that jermaine dupre is getting back into djing.
Discobee 2:17 AM - 11 June, 2010
All the hater comments are funny...because while the haters are hating, JD is still a multi-millionaire who get better gigs + make more money than all the haters combined. So alas, continue your hate...I'm sure it doesn't bother him one bit.

DAMN some of you mother fuckers are just straight haters!!!! weather he is feeding off the fact that his name is big or the fact that he started DJing before alot of us started who the fuck cares. If you dont like his shit just do it your way and stop your fuckin bitchin FUCK!!!!
Oh and let me guess everyone that decided to hate on him regardless of why, I take it everyone that has ever heard you DJ liked everything you played and every blend you put together ? Come on now stop the fuckin bickerin and just be real with your damn self and DO YOU!!!!
DJ RICKGEE 3:15 AM - 11 June, 2010
I spin at that venue and had to miss his set to spin at another club in the casino.. From what I've heard from other DJ homies is that his set was pretty structured, but definitely live. JD has been in the game producing for over a decade and it doesn't surprise me that he can mix records, especially on Serato. From the vid, looked like he was doin his thing, and everyone I talked to had a great time that night. Mission accomplished in my book.
DJ'Que 3:27 AM - 11 June, 2010
jd has been djing b4 most of you on here, this shit is funny cuz you motherfuckers are mad haterz. wtf. I would like to see some dumbass start a post about dj quik djing. wait imma have him do that. it would be funny to see some stupid person say dam look at dr dre on the tables djing. that will be a field day. and b4 someone post it dre and quik was dj's b4 rappers. must be a newbie that started this post.

how many dj's does it take to change a light bulb ?

10

1 to change the bulb and the other 9 to talk about how the original was better :)
DJ Sainte 2:12 PM - 11 June, 2010
Saw JD up in Seattle not too long ago, like late April. Nothing to impressive but the crowd was really into it for the first hour. Lots of slam mixing, lots of microphone work like, " I go by the name of Jermaine Dupri!! " and " This how we do it in the South!! " ( I'm from FL BTW ). Not bad, good time, but nothing to write home about.

Only hiccup, he played " Party in the U.S.A." bout an hour in and the crowd was NOT feeling it. Switched songs quick. Funny, but alot of crowds up here like to get it CRUNK!!! YEAH!!! ( Sorry, couldn't help myself...)
