Talk about Serato Video and Video-SL.

What you use to store your videos?

I have a 2 TB G-technologies RAID harddrive with firewire 800. Its a beast.

To transfer fc/pro edits between my Imac and my mac/pro I use a external 500G Lacie plugged usb into my airbook.

What other ideas are out there.

i store all my vids and vobs on about 15 hardirves ranging from 500, 750,1000 GBs.

my main gig video drive is a 1.5TB maxtor (which i thought died tonite but it didn't).

using 2 thermaltake blacxs, a jump drive, dropbox, aim or adium, i transfer files.

Does that create any issues with serato pulling information on the files when you switch?
tomatoslice 3:17 PM - 15 May, 2010
sorta...the only thing is that cues, loops and what not haven't been following the file.
you just have to move the other files that stores that info.

I sorte all my vobs on an external hd. Have all my mp4s on an internal 500gb, gonna upgrade to a 1tb internal soon
carter 11:22 PM - 15 May, 2010
Audio on my internal 500gig, mp4s on a 1TB external. Vobs are on an external connected to my Time Capsule.
DJCheLu 12:40 AM - 16 May, 2010
Are you guys using itunes to sort these separate hd's? How are you getting it to work properly if you are?

Which 1tb internal is running great on a mbp?
Xtendamix 1:29 AM - 17 May, 2010
Drobo's at the office, Firewire 500gig on the road

I use iTunes only for my music. Because I've moved to 95% video only for djing (by premixing/mashups so I don't have to live), I simply use serato to organize my videos.
Culprit 2:38 PM - 18 May, 2010
raid 5 + 1 server at the house. 1tb external usb 2.0 with fans for the road.
carter 4:24 PM - 18 May, 2010
iTunes doesn't touch my video library. I have my mp3 files stored in iTunes, but I don't use it with SSL. I manually imported everything into SSL and iTunes both. I hate the way iTunes stores and manages music so I prefer to do it myself.

If you really need the full 1tb of space now, there's really no choice.

If you can get by with 750gb for now, I think the 2-platter (regular-height) 750gb WD drive is a much better idea.

Note that in either case, you would need to install "hdapm" and create a LaunchDaemon to set the hdapm level to "max". Otherwise performance will be affected and the drive is likely to fail prematurely from accumulating a lot of load cycles very quickly. This issues affects other drives from other manufacturers as well.

Take that to gigs with you too?

I use the drobo for home storage of edits and raw files.
Culprit 8:49 PM - 26 July, 2010

Comes with power supply

Haha I wouldn't want to drag this thing to gigs! Although it'd be no different than carrying crates back in the day I suppose! But no, gig drive is just a 1.5tb Seagate external. This is strictly for archival of VOBs/edits and, of course, a backup of MP4s.
Rick Hodgkins 12:44 AM - 27 July, 2010
Well years ago I had a video collection that was only 1.5tb also.
And yes, it travels quite nicely and I have two.

I did rivet a handle to the top of it to which I loop and strap the power and usb cables for travel. It sits on the floor under the set up and is totally out of sight.
Has a built in power supply.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, loading out after a gig I had a lighting bag with a strap under it and when I in my haste grabbed the bag, the dock took a 4' dive to the concrete.

The aluminum case protected it completely and to this day it lives. (but is the reason I own two now just for shits sake).

The beauty of this kind of "server" is that updating databases is a snap, slide it in, slide it out...
