Hi just hope this help anyone with the "i" series of processor suffering from drop outs .
I seem to have found a fix .
-go to Device Manager and check USB devices -USB root hub and click on devices. Once device window with details has been opened (properties) please select Power Managment tab and make sure option of Power Save is unchecked.
NOTE:Please do same with all USB devices in Device Manager.
This seems to have fixed my drop outs four hours now and i have pushed it much more than i would in the club and no drop outs so far :)
hope this helps others
I have Alienware M15x
Windows 7 64 bit i3 processor
3 gigs of ram

Dell are one of the biggest laptop manufactures. They do know:
en.community.dell.com
I know that this isn't quite exactly the same thing, but Dell are most certainly aware of the issue. This is just one example of the i-Series mainboard issues needing a BIOS update. Not really worth reading it all, but some BIOS updates help, some don't. This type of issues is widespread throughout the internet, multiple companies, forums and support centers.
If you talk to them ask to speak to a manager. If that doesn't help ask to speak to THEIR manager (there is always someone higher). Ask what they are doing about this and when to expect a working BIOS update for USB peripheral connectivity issues that is occurring from their laptops.
Hopefully the more pressure the faster they will go.
It's unfortunate this is taking so long, I'm sorry that this is causing problems, trust me when I say we would LOVE for this to be resolved. Being at the mercy of hardware companies is always hard. We are lucky that we are small enough to be able to maneuver fast when we have a bug with our software, however many large companies these kinds of things can take a while.
Thanks again for your patience :D

I wanted to say that I also expermented with (( ctrl-alt-delete - start task manager - processes tab - selecting explorer.exe under image name and selecting end process. Before i did that i was getting dropouts every 10 mins. Now i do not get it and have been using scratchlive for a while now. BUT I lose all my desktop icons, my task bar at the bottom, I cant even shut down normally, but I think it has fixed my dropouts so far........
what do u think..... is this ok or am i shuting that off and its bad ?

unfornutately i don´t have these options in the bios. it seems to be designed to give the user almost no options. the advanced tab only shows the option "enable intel virtualization"

It sounds like your ending the process on task.mgr and explorer.exe.
Don't disable those and it shouldn't do that.

but it's still taking forever to load in your music to serato?
with these adjustments you've made in the bios menu, are there any other negative side effects? do the adjustments stay or do you have to perform these changes every time you boot up?
turning off the power saver on the usb ports didn't work for me but one thing i also noticed is that once my computer was rebooted it turned back on the power saving feature in device manager.
this is sooooo damn annoying. today i'm dj'ing a bbq with another dj. i'm just going to put all my music onto some usb sticks and use his laptop instead of my brand new laptop :(

I used to have to power off manually every time but configured the high preformance settings on the computer in advanced mode not to power off the usb and that seems to have helped as it is always off in the device manager .
Not sure which of the fixes worked but its lasted 3 nights of hard gigs
Only about 10% of songs take a while to 3 secs to load and 20 secs to write overview and these are random songs but same few over and over rescaned id3 tags a few times but makes no difference.
I am using my Alienware now but still have back up on hand and of course music on control disc just in case !!!!!!
Only thing was in middle of gig right deck had no sound controled track ok but no sound left worked fine flicked on to track on control disc and took out and reinserted usb and it was fine for rest of gig .

anything new on this?
still there is no proper solution, which is very annoying.
3 months with a new laptop and still couldn´t take it to a single gig.

can i assume your using your motherboards onboard usb host controller to plug your serato interdace into .?
have you tried using a secondary pci card usb 2 device with its own host controller onboard?
