It doesnt seem to have something to do with album art, it happened on a mp4 that I never added artwork to.

It also happen to mp4s I got from other places then my12inch.

when I look in my music folder on my mac, all the videos working fine in serato have that little "image video preview" thingy attached to them, but those corrupted show nothing but the quicktime icon.

I tryed transfering one of the corrupted mp4 videos to a PC, the sound plays but still no video.
so I guess it has nothing to do with pc/mac, drivers, etc...

Drag and drop one of the ones that doesn't play into MovieInfoBatch and post your results.

I confirm that these files played just fine before, and all of a sudden, serato corrupted them.
I only use my mac for serato and handbrake with the vsl preset.
I dont use itune at all, I organise and tag everything from within scratchlive.
I dont open my mp4s/mp3s with Itune or quicktime, only scratchlive.
So I'm pretty sure Scratchlive is to blame, although I hate saying that as it's the first time in years I encounter a problem with this software.

The encoding on the first one isn't great. Key frame spacing is way off. It should be around 15-30 fps. Your average is 240.1. That could be one issue for freezing. The audio will continue to play but it only refreshes when a new key frame comes into the picture. Was that from a service or did you encode that one?
I would upload the Jaheim track and see if an admin or mod can look at it for you.
Also what version of Perian are you using and what version of Handbrake are you using?

- the encoding of the first one is most probably from my12inch pool (not 100% sure though), I havent touch this one at all (reencoding or such)

I can confirm this as I tryed playing them outside serato and only audio plays in quicktime.

-Handbrake is 0.9.4 with the serato preset, but I also have to go to "picture settings" and then "filters" and deinterlace "slow". If I dont do that, I get horizontal lines on the vids I rip from PO

by the way, when I go to setup I can check the SL version is 1.9.2
I'm pretty sure I've last installed the latest VSL beta, but where do I check the VSL version? do I need to plug the 57 to be able to see it?

Here's another mp4 where the video got lost, and only audio is left. It's poor quality.
It doesnt happen to all my mp4 files (thank god), but to a lot.
This one is just to confirm that it happens to files I either, ripped from dvd, got from vj pools, and also taken from youtube (although I never play those live).
Now I have to go through all my videos to see which ones got corrupted (grrrrrrr)

To check the VSL version click the video tab then setup. Under the Control tab you will see the version number at the bottom. The latest beta is 12017.
Just updated my Perian and can't reproduce it. I'm running 1.9.2 and 1.2 beta. After installing the 2.0 beta and having it crash on me at home I loaded up 1.9.2. Well no video only audio. Opened 2.0 back up and it would run both. I uninstalled everything, reinstalled it, and it was all working with 1.9.2.
That's all I can figure. I can't click on the links. A mod will have to do that and let you know what they find.

An important note:

-On all the videos where I got this problem, I attached them to mp3s.
I'm sure its the common point for all those files.
Maybe I deleted the attached mp3 without ctrl+shift click the attached video and it somehow corrupted the mp4?
-Some mp4s I attached mp3s to, are still playing fine.

I hope Serato techs will see this as I think its a major issue and the first one I encounter with serato in years.

Did it happen to all your videos, or only to some?

I'm using 1.9.2 with vsl 12017, I also got V2.0 rc3 but since this problem I havent dared to use it again. But unfortunately going back to 1.9 didnt do anything.

It did it on all of them. This is a new one for me. I haven't seen this before.

After going through all my videos, I end up with 9 corrupted files (not too bad)

8 of 'em are mp4s I got from various sources: my12inch, ripped from PO, and also from youtube.
1 is Avi I dont know where it's from.

All the files still show their regular file size.

Only the 2 "major lazer" tracks open in quicktime (audio only though)
The 6 others wont load in QT, I get an error message.

Hi Res-Q,

There's a few things that can cause this to happen. A bug in Scratch Live could be one, but also a corrupt hard drive can also irreparably damage your files.

First of all, are all the files you've had this problem with MP4s? Have you edited any of their tags in Scratch Live prior to this happening? Do you have all your video files on the same hard drive? if so, is it an internal or external hard drive?

Hi Michael. I only use my macbook pro internal drive. My external is for backup with time machine. My mac seems to be running just fine but I only use it for serato, handbrake and safari. Is there a tool in mac os I can run that can check my hard drive's health?
This happens on a few mp4/m4v files. I'm almost sure that it has something to do with associating those video files to several mp3s, and after doing so, those video files get corrupted after I reedit their tags (either name, title, album, year).
I did edit the tags in SL as its the only software I use to tag and organize my files. I never used itunes.
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help you narrow down the cause of this problem.

There sure is, it's called Disk Utility and it's part of OS X. If you open Finder and go to Applications -> Utilities, you'll find it there :)


We've made many changes to the way tags for MP4 files are edited in Scratch Live 2.0. Are you able to install this and see if this resolves this issue? You can get it here -> www.serato.com (click link). Please let me know if that helps at all.
