A message to "dj" pauly d

DJ Mr. $ 10:13 AM - 14 March, 2010
I read your interview where you claim that you are on top of the game, but your not. Clubs hire you not because you are a DJ, but because people want to see you because you were on MTV. No one who comes to see you knows the difference between a good dj and a bad dj. I'm a young DJ and I go around cold calling clubs, sending out press kits, practicing every free minute I have and then a clown like you comes along, goes on an MTV show (a show that poeple laugh AT you not with you- as you and your roommates go around town looking and acting like assholes) and claims to be a real dj.

Respect the game. Someone who's on top doesnt say they r on top. And a DJ known for fist pumping shouldnt have to get on the mic to get one hand in the air (as a video uploaded by the Palms shows you telling the crowd to fist pump because they were just standing there). When AM was on top of the game he was signing the praise of other DJ's all the time. The only DJ you ever mention by name is Skribble - another MTV made DJ, except for his is about 1,000 times better than you. Go look at any big name DJ's twitter they r always shouting out other DJ, talking music ect. Yours is all look at me, i'm Pauly D, i tear it up in the clubs. DJ's who tear up the clubs let their work speak for itself.

Guys like Jazzy Jeff, Spinbad, Flipside, Vice, ect are on top of the game. They have skills and they stay humble, 2 things you lack.

You claim you have been djing for over 15 years? If you love music and djing like you say you do and claim to be doing it for 15+ years, can you do 1 clean tranisition or play a set without every track purchased on Crooklyn Clan. I'm not judging you on YouTube videos. I downloaded 2 of you mixes off of your website the first time I saw the show. All you did was play songs full to the end and put your drop over when you switched songs. You did throw in a baby scracth here and there. No beatmatching just playing songs. If you have been djing this long and in clubs 6 nights a week as you claim, wouldnt you have learned the basics of djing. I tried listening to a full mix, but after 10 min of no transitions I tried to fast foward to find a transition, but I couldnt.

I'm not hating because your getting money. I look at your DJ residency the same way I look at Conan O'Briens tour - comedy acts. You are a wannabe socialite who is using DJing as a way to get yourself out there but in the process destroying an artform that you say you love.

This isnt about money, this is about loving an artform. I'm not saying give up you residency because if I was in your shoes id be doing the same thing. But I would be doing whatever I could to bring the spotlight towards the guys who have influenced me (retweeting mixes, mentioning how they influenced you in interviews, ect). Your 15 minutes of fame will end soon weather you believe it or not, and when it does you will be just another cocky kid who can't mix trying to dj, but you would've hurt an artform in the process.
DJ Mr. $ 10:17 AM - 14 March, 2010
And Pauly no matter how much the Palms pays you people who know and care about music will go to see Z-Trip's Revolution @ Rain on friday nights and Vice @ Tao on Saturday's. And you will NEVER replace Vice as Vegas top DJ.
dj focus 10:33 AM - 14 March, 2010
i agree .

why cant people understand its not what u know its who u know.........not many people care if u are a good dj(by other dj standards)as long as the people are having fun in the club......and hay if u can get ur self to be notice more then just a dj and people come see u cuz u in the limelight so be it......not saying u shouldnt worry about having skillz but all you need to really know is the basics(what he does)and thats it.......
DJ Mr. $ 7:22 PM - 14 March, 2010
@chris ross - i respect that he got where he is and i have no problem with him doing the gigs. What I have a problem with is him not being humble and not backing it up with skills. Also, not using his spotlight to bring more attention and respect to the DJ culture and to people that he should respect for what they have done for the game. Like I said before, his 15 min of fame will end weather it be 2 months or 2 years from now.

If I was in his situation and had the gigs he has (I have more skill than himbc I can beatmatch, do a transitiion and I work with a scratch teacher 2 times a week as I have been DJ for less than 2 years) I would be bringing a big name east coact DJ out to vegas each week. I'd get the opportunity to stand in the booth and learn a lot of these quality DJ's and build up a contact list. Then when my 15 min of fame ended i would have been developing my skills the whole time and have the respect and help of the industry's elite.

@Marx&Villain - I will contact his agent tomorrow. Funny that a "DJ" isnt represented by a company known for managing DJ's (ala Moodswing, Deckstar, or S.K.A.M.)
DJ Mr. $ 7:25 PM - 14 March, 2010
@DJ Unique - I dont think Pauly can read. I had to bring publicity to the only man in entertainment I hate more than Pauly, jay big jaw leno (Conan is much funnier) but watch the hulu clip of the jersey shore cast on jay walking. Pauly thinks homosapien means gay.
chris ross 7:30 PM - 14 March, 2010
............ummmmmmmmm...i feel where u coming from.....u would do it diffrent is what u saying....but who says he have to drop names of other djs old or new of course he is going to prise himself and say he is the best that how he gets his money(marketing) and also not many people can tell the diffrence between a good dj and a bad one as long as u keep the songs coming...shit i know djs who use vdj cant blend or nutting but they get like 200 to 300 a nite and the people love them....thats just the way it is
chris ross 7:34 PM - 14 March, 2010
i also want to add that i check his page out....he is like the 50cent of djing so u already know what it is
DJ Mr. $ 7:36 PM - 14 March, 2010
^^ I understand but look at all the big name DJ's who have been killing it in the clubs around the country for years. I had the opportunity to open for Chachi a few month ago and while he was amazing on the set, I walked away saying I couldnt believe how humble the guy was. Everyone who has ever met AM or Jazzy Jeff says the same thing. Same with Spinbad, Vice, and Flipside. It's about being humble and respecting the game.

Even in sports, guys like Jeter and LeBron have nothing but respect for the guys who came before them. Thats why they will be celebrated long after they retire and I guy like Iverson who was once one of the better players in the league is irrevelevent now.
Dj-M.Bezzle 7:37 PM - 14 March, 2010

noones saying he has too but most talented DJs do give props where there due and since he lucked into his position you think he would be hella grateful. Besides you can say someone else is talented and praise yourself at the same time
chris ross 8:11 PM - 14 March, 2010
im just stating his view...........now if u ask me who is my fav dj ill tell you but unless he was a helping hand im not going out my way(thats my view)
Maskrider 9:51 PM - 14 March, 2010
His not gonna read this his busy doing his hair.
DJ Mr. $ 10:31 PM - 14 March, 2010
@ chris ross - wouldnt you want to use the opportunity to newtwork and learn from the guys who influenced you?

I know i'm working on booking a show at my college that I wont make any money off of but I will be able to bring one of my favorite DJ's to town, chill with him before the show and talk DJing, stand in the booth and watch his set, and hopefully build a business relationship. But thats me. AM didnt need to go on tour with Jazzy Jeff to make his money, in fact AM personally made less when he toured with Jeff, but Jeff is a legend and one of his idols.

What he needs to realize is the way he acts he acts like a celeberty who is a wanna be dj. He is up there with Perez Hilton and Lindsey Lohan when it comes to DJing and no one should ever mention him in the same sentence as AM, Vice, Jeff, Flipside, Spinbad, Chachi, Suss. One, ect

on a side note: just heard DJ Jason Smith mix for the first time - dude is nice. If u have time download his mix off of moodswings website and throw it on the ipod for the gym.
chris ross 12:16 AM - 15 March, 2010
nothing wrong with networking im always done with that.....thats why i say if a dj had a hand in it then yah i would show respect but if not im not going to go out my way now if now somebody ask i would tell them who my fav dj is............but dont hate on the kid tho..he getting his he might be getting more then your fav dj....thats life
DJ Mr. $ 12:28 AM - 15 March, 2010
^ i'm not hating on him for getting his $. I am hating on him for not using his spotlight to bring DJing to the next level. AM took djing to the next level. When Spinbad was on Z-100 in NY he broght a ton of exposure to blends and scratches. I am also hating on him for saying he is on top of the game. When AM was on top of the game he never said it, but he would talk about other DJ's that impressed him. All djs do, besides pauly d because he is a celeberty trying to dj.

I think Pauly D and Jay Leno might be the 2 most hated people in showbiz right now.
chris ross 12:42 AM - 15 March, 2010
just cuz he would not do it the way you do it.....sounds like hate to me.....just cuz u have your dj gods and he dont.....so if u look at it shit i think he is taking it to the next level....getting people even more aware of the dj hell that might be the new trand like bradd pitt might be a dj next......maan i dont know...i just dont think its a big deal
chris ross 12:43 AM - 15 March, 2010
really i never heard of him tell u said sumting so u know what that means................your helping him keep up the good work
DJ'Que 12:48 AM - 15 March, 2010
@Dj Mr. $ see that's the problem. Why gate cuz he make's $10,000 a show. Grow up kid. People will say the same about you. If it happened to you. He wouldn't care what you have to saycuz his bank account has more zero's than your's. Its always other dj's that hate. Not the crowd. Vegas is about money ( I.E Casino's) so if you can book a big act and make tripple what you pay him then why not. So what he's not good. Take heed and also be not good. The club has really never been about scratching skills. Only people know his blends Are Off Is Other Dj's. I made $800 today To Dj At A Dirtbike Track where I made a playlist and went riding , never did I touch the table except for loading and unloading. Its about who you know not how good ur skills are. And I do these gig on a regular for them. My friend way like I need Que Job. He say's the fucker get hired to ride the track and play music, But I bring The Crowd and celebrity dirtbike rider's to the track. Like James Stewart , Reed , Carmichael ,etc and they make money. If your hateing on him then up your people ( Meet some Celebrity's) and bring something to bring revenue. Don't gate on the next Dj Like other's do. But with this post you will fit in fine on this site. Serato sponsor's him why cuz he can influence kid's or adults or othe celeb's to buy serato. Its all about the money, and in due time you will see and learn that's.
chris ross 12:53 AM - 15 March, 2010
im glad to hear people that see it the way i do......i knew i wasnt going nuts
DJ Mr. $ 1:27 AM - 15 March, 2010
@ Quo - again, im not hating because he gets paper. I'm still in college and have grown up living an upscale lifestyle. Trust me, I have gotten internships in finance based on who I knew not what I knew. I understand how it works and I am always looking for a connection to get to the next level. Get your paper kid. What I have a problem with is him saying he's the best.

If I was Pauly I would post the link to the Jazzy Jeff peter piper juggle on Twitter. Let his 100,000 followers look at a legend. It would help get the noobs out of the club and get real djs behind the decks
chris ross 1:31 AM - 15 March, 2010
did u come out your mom pussy knowing how to mix and bland............i dont think so......jazzy jeff was a noob at one time......just think if people thought the way u do(get the noobs out the club)then there would be no jezzy jeff(your dj god)and really......jazzy jeff is not the best.........u know who i put over him a sound called stone love they can play for every crowd........but thats just how i feel
DJ Mr. $ 1:43 AM - 15 March, 2010
Jazzy Jeff was sneaking into clubs with he was a teenager watching djs and hoping for the opportunity to put on 1 song while the dj went to take a piss.

again, I have a problem with Pauly's attittude. The noobs i'm talking about getting out of the clubs are the guys showing up with low quality mp3's and cheap midi controllers train wrecking.

Like I said, guys like Pauly D getting the spotlight is making everyone think they can dj without practicing and putting in their time. If you are a real dj it would piss you off when Pauly says hes the top dj in the game and the next AM.

Get your money and stay humble. Respect the game. Respect the pioneers. I wouldnt be shocked if Pauly didnt know who Grandmaster Flash or Qbert were
DJJOHNNYM_vSL3 2:38 AM - 15 March, 2010
Dude, you can't be mad because Pauly doesn't fit your image of a "Role Model" for DJ's.

Why? Because he's not a DJ born of the traditional influences.

How can you expect him to pay homage, and he JUST DOESN'T KNOW ANY BETTER?

Up and coming "DJ's" today, aren't exposed to the same trials and tribulations that older, more seasoned cats who have respect for the art, went through.

So WHAT if he thinks he's the shit.? Most DJ's think they are the next Jazzy Jeff or AM...so what?

I'll tell you ONE thing though, he's smart enough not to battle anybody and make it official.

Let dude make his money, he's NOT killing the DJ game, that's just his "niche" to help him in his TV career and self promotion.

Let him live his 15 minutes.

He's not keeping you out of a job.
DJJOHNNYM_vSL3 2:41 AM - 15 March, 2010
As a matter of fact, MORE "REAL" DJ'S TODAY, should be trying to get out there and show what "REAL" skills are.

How do you get out there?

Date a famous model, get on a Reality TV show, do SOMETHING to stand out.

They did it, why can't you? (Not you individually, but those cryin' the Pauly D blues)
djchase 3:07 AM - 15 March, 2010
^^^lol hes right he may not be "good" but his names in every ones mouth

(no misquote)
djbanno 4:33 AM - 15 March, 2010
i wonder if they are talking about him on the hair gel forums...
djsyn 4:57 AM - 15 March, 2010
this guys 15 minutes of fame will never end if you keep talking about him. i didn't know who this guy was until i saw his name on this forum.
chris ross 6:39 AM - 15 March, 2010
me too..........i feel the same way dude just markert dude...im like who dis dude....got me checking out his web site and all.....i mean i do think he look gay on that page with his shirt off in headphones but so what who cares for dude

being humble and grateful when you get to his status especially when you got there on a lucky break isnt just a DJ thing its just the right thing to do, hell if you look at the great actors most of them arent on interviews goin "go see this movie cause im in it and im the best actor that ever lived" most great actors will say this is a great movie the cast was great the director did an excelent job my costar was awsome ect ect. And when they ask about new actors most vets will up the new kids unless their asses

it's not harassin' him it's just constructive criticism and more of reality check about his skill level as he is comparing him self to be the next dj Am... yet even talent wise on the turntables pauly d can be schooled real good by an average dj who has been djing for six months and just finished taking some dj classes at Scratch academy!
djcrap 2:50 PM - 15 March, 2010
^^^^^ i mean he makes that much money! why not spend some of it taking some dj classes to further his skills instead of spending most of it on Gel for his hair and running his mouth, while he ruins the craft we all love.

C'mon man,

You really think this ONE PERSON is single handedly bringing down the DJ Culture all by himself?

And you referenced his money...

Again, if he wasn't making any money, he'd just be another DJ thinking he was the next AM, running his mouth...

Whoever mentioned it earlier was right...

We are all frustrated at the DJ Culture in today's world, and Pauly D is a stark reminder of it, but you can't make him the poster boy of a crime that was committed YEARS before he got "known".

How do you guys know he's not TRYING to get better in his "spare" time?

Does he even HAVE spare time?

Seems like he's SOLIDLY BOOKED, and might not have time to really "practice" vs. "practicing" in the club...

I remember those days...

You remember those days because they actually existed for you. On the other hand, Pauly is playing pre-made mixes and pretending they're live, not 'practicing at the club' like you did. More 'pretending at the club', which you probably NEVER did.

Heres something noones considering, everyone keeps saying you would do the same if you were in his shoes....me personally i would do the same in a heartbeat but i would also know people were going to talk shit, it comes with the territory especially in his situation, i would expect all this i just wouldnt care.
Dj Bacik 6:52 PM - 15 March, 2010
Man, this is such a touchy subject. I have a point for both sides.

Point against: Listening and watching him is like putting my testicles in a blender. If I ever walked into any club or bar and heard a dj like that I would leave. Because he is not producing the type of atmosphere I like to stay in. Heavy scratching, lame mixes (if at all), and to much hype from the emcee. When I watched the videos of him in a house battle scratching (I assume, cause it wasn't mixing) It sounded like a full body stroke with his hand taped to the record.

Point for: He used his status on a popular television show to get gigs. Who here wouldn't? Hell, even the kid who played Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite did it. So more cred to him for finding a way to further his career.

What I dislike is all these people who talk like they are better than everyone when they aren't. Don't get me wrong, I'm no king on the decks. But I don't go around saying I'm on top of the game.

personally him doin him is fine by me, doin clubs its not like hes influencuin alot of young kids that his way of djing is the way to go, but for everyone who says to quit discussing it, its a dj discussion board and like it or not hes something major thats happening in the world of djing, hes new to the big show, we could keep discussing how awsome am was or how badass spinbad is or we can discuss what is currently happening\changin in our enviroment, and for everyone who keeps sayin were extending his 15 minutes of fame, he didnt get famous off a message board he got famous of a TV show.....a tv show that has a 2nd season in the works, so even if he was NEVER mentioned on this board hed still be exactly where he is now doing whatever hes doin now (most likley his hair)
dj hes 7:30 PM - 15 March, 2010
I got word that Pauly D might be coming to Portland OR in April. I bet he didnt cost 10k to bring. and I for 1 am going to go to see him so i can hear how horrible he sounds. i will try to record some of his set so we can all make fun of him.

and he doesnt have respect for the game because he is a little bambina. he is a flash in the pan and will not have a future in the business, so he needs to make all he can before he becomes irrelevant. i can understand that. I can also laugh at it because he is so busy "rocking the decks" so poorly.

^^^^^^Agreed Sniffles. All of us can't deny how jersey shore not just pauly d has impacted dj culture. I've never had more requests for house music and "something that I can fist pump to" requests since the show came on. I also have mad respect for anyone who is a dj or who wants to learn more about djing. As most of us know its not easy. Promoters, drunk people, expensive equipment, etc etc At first DJing to me was making sure the crowd was moving and having a good time. Then when DJing started paying my bills, I realized that DJing was ALSO about making sure that drinks are sold at the bar and you are bringing a crowd in week after week. Not only are we performing but also providing a service. From my viewpoint, pauly d is not only bringing money into venues but also bringing in a huge crowd and everyone on this board knows a shittier DJ then him so who cares what he says and of his skills. Let him count his paper and I'm going to keep counting mine.

this thread was not supposed to be about Pauly getting gigs. Its no different than Joe Maloff's (owner of the palms and sacratomato kings) son becoming a dj and spinning at the palms. It was about Pauly not showing love to other djs just coming out and saying hes the best. I respect him for getting his money, but he had an opportunity to bring more spotlight to the art of djing. AM did that. Jeff did that. Pauly's all about Pauly and "how good he is".

like i said before, look at all the djs who have been successful over long periods of time and you will find one important thing in common. It's not skills because there are more talented djs than guys like Chachi and Vice, but the guys who make it big are humble.

uin his defense the difference is AM and Jeff and the other guys who were humble and put new guys on were all TALENTED, they didnt have to say they are the best and they could put new guys on because their skills locked them in, Pauly D knows his role and hes staying in his lane, when you got the spotlight on accident you dont go pointing to others who are going to show you up and keep the spotlight, also you DONT let your skills talk for yourself, in this day and age anyone who gets on tv and goes I AM THE BEST THAT EVER DONE IT, gets believed (see lil wayne for example) for some reason noone questions it anymore. So he really CANT be humble or people will see through his act, you cant go "oh well im an ok DJ theres better out there check these cats out"...when thats the truth because people will look and go ok hes right, you have to say yuor the best and make people debate and figure it out for themselves while your cashin checks

So you're MAD that he won't pay homage to the DJ's that blazed the trail before him?

HE IS NOT A ROLE MODEL.

Again, he's not born of the traditional methods of becoming a DJ.

Michael Jordon was the BEST in basketball, but he didn't give a DAMN about who came before him.

Does it matter that he was the best? Or does that rule only apply when you "suck"?

You can't make people do things, they have to learn on their own, so they will truly respect it.

He is part of a marketing machine, and I'm sure there are others who are pulling his strings. You've heard of "Handlers"? Hell, THEY probably went out and got him premixed CD's to play, cuz they ALREADY KNOW the deal.

You can't hate on him for blowin up.

Lol, Id rather be loved and respected like Jazzy Jeff for example. My career would last longer than a couple of seasons of jersey shore. Plus Id make more money in the long run. Also hate is a strong word, more like pointing out the obvious, he sucks as a DJ. Were all DJs in here and we give props when their due and when their not. I personally dont hate him. Hes doing the right thing for himself. I do however dislike the fact that he talks like he really can really spin. Just be humble about it, hes going on 15 plus years and its taking him time to learn how to mix two records and put together a set. Some people learn quicker than others I guess.
DJ DennisJ 6:35 PM - 16 March, 2010
That stuff about being a DJ for 15 year is total BS. In 1995 you had to actually know how to spin to be a DJ, or you'd have been laughed out of bars/clubs. There was none of this stuff that goes on now with creating edits so you could pretend to DJ... you either knew how to spin or you trainwrecked and didn't get asked back.
DJ Mr. $ 6:39 PM - 16 March, 2010
^^ if you have been djing for 15 years you should be able to beatmatch and do a simple transiition.

He seems like a guy who got into djing for money and girls - not the love of music and the love of the artform. If you have been djing for 15 years and you sound like he does, you most likley to not have the desire or drive to get better.

Enjoy the run pauly, as i said when the show is done all the djs that you disrespected along the way will not be there to help, they will be laughing at you. Or you could've been building relationships and working on your skill not your ego.

Or maybe you can find out the difference between homosexual and homosapien (on the big chin show he thought a homosapien bar was a gay bar)

Also at that stage in the game, where you are THE resident at a super club and people come to see YOU.......is it necessary to drop your name after every track
Dj-M.Bezzle 6:51 PM - 16 March, 2010

It is when you're using it as a transition track.

as for him being the resident - i'm not sure he's the type of "dj" people will go out and see more than once. I understood paying AM $20,000 a week because if AM was djing weekly in my town id go see him all the time. With Pauly its you go once, get a picture, and then what else is there. Not good music. Not that much dancing. Just people standing around trying to get pictures.

QUESTION, in the video he is constantly putting the earphones to his ear and typing things in on his laptop ect ect......but hes not betmatching, he does ALOT of prep work for someone who dosent beatmatch

What i thought was great was after they announced him you could see the dj before him take the needle off the left record like yup he wont need this
Swizzle 7:02 PM - 16 March, 2010
Jordan didn't have to care about his opponent, but to dominate you have to respect the player you are competing against.
That means:
Hard work ethic/Off season conditioning
Study the game/Film
Perfect the craft thru repetition/practice
Compete on a nightly/consistent basis
Never settle and take nights off

We don't need for Pauly D to pay homage to real DJ's in his interviews. His 'skills' do the talking. He is not a student of the dj game nor will he be a teacher of the dj game.
He is a gimmick. There have been plenty of rappers/singer/actors on reality TV shows that tried to make it..where are they now?

I actually saw David from Watchwww.youtube.com "Real World-Los Angeles who pulled the covers off of Tammy" perform his stand-up routine at the Laugh Factory Hollywood back in the day. He used his 15minutes accordingly and so is Pauly D.

I WISH FOR THE MOST HATE LIKE THIS.....I REALLY DO.......

Some people learn quicker than others I guess.

yall hating so what....who is you.......so what .....im telling yall thats the way it is......i seen a million dj like him ....they still get paid.....one dude told me he dj for 15 years.....and he cant blend.......thats the him...he get like 200 to 300 a nite...and the people love him.....its not what you know its who you know......and guess what....he dont have to know yall...

DJ AM posted this on these boards in 2006. Look at how humble he is. Look at all the other DJ's he gives shout outs to. look at him saying he's a lucky dj not a great dj. the plane crash and the relapse is the only thin that stoped him. Pauly take note because u will never be 1/1000th of the dj or person that AM was.

Well well well... This has gotten a lil nusto so I feel I SHOULD say something. First off pardon my grammar and spelling... I was locked up in rehab when I was 16 and never finished high school.

Let me first address the mix. I did that live at the station. I was asked by DJ Echo to come in for the "12 days of Mixmas - In the club day" as they call it, and to play ANYthing I wanted to, but to KINDA stick to the club theme. The whole point was that the station was NOT rated at that time. Meaning they don't need to play Jibbs - Chain Hang Low or whatever song is big at the time every 40 minutes (I don't work in radio so I don't know the details on how often they must play a song or whatever. I just know what it sounds like to me so I rarely listen to radio). I do NOT DJ on the radio and that was the first time in a LONG time I did. I was SO nervous to go there I could barely sleep the night before. I almost turned around in the car on the way there I was so shook. Then I get there, and DJ Revolution is there!!!!!! He is like a super hero to me so that just adds to the sweat beads falling off my dome. THEN he comes in the small ass room where I had to do the mix to peep while I DJed. I was BUGGING!

Back to the issue of the mix sorry, the mix is a year old so I don't really remember what is on it. But lets look at the track listing and I will tell you what is a "pre made mix" there are 34 songs on this list. There are 7 that ARE pre made and they are

10) Janet Jackson vs. U2 (GHP MASHUP)
16) crooklyn clan “wanna jump”
19) Jackson 5 “I want you back” (MASHUP)
22) DJ kool “let me clear my funk” (breakwax old school blend)
27) kelis “old school milkshake” (AV8)
29) black eyed peas “my booty humps” (Kevin Scott RMX)
30) My Turkey Humps (MASHUP)

The rest are just songs.

The 90s hip hop part was cause that is what IIIIIIIII wanted to play. If you didn't like it sorry. if you thought it was predictable sorry. Simply turn it off. I don't remember putting a gun to ANYones head saying "BUMP THIS OR I BLAST YOU" I did that cause I am old! hahaha A lot of kids that listen to power 106 have NOT heard Tribe or KRS. That is what hip hop is to me. And I want them to know there is something OTHER then JIBBS! I think its SELFISH to think I was gonna go on the radio and DJ for 30+ year old DJs who have heard all this REAL hip hop before. I wanted to do my best to put a LIL something for everyone and still be me AND make myself happy. That is what DJing is about to me. The truth is.. Where else are you gonna hear that stuff anymore? I learned about 60s and 70s bands from my friends older brothers growing up. I am just trying to pass the torch of hip hop the way I was passed classic rock.

Let me address some specific comments here..

DeezNotes - In response to "As much as I like it, no one where I'm from could get away with something like that. Maybe on the cross-over station, but no one I know listens to that station since it's not as diverse."

I wanted you to know the REASON of song selection was that it was a NON rated time of the season for the radio show. They don't play what I played normally. And also to answer your question, the way I organize my music is in iTunes. For some play lists I just put a bunch of bangers I wanna play in it. For others I sort by the NUMBER ADDED to the play list, then move em around in the order I want. So I can have a 88 bpm song next to a 160 one I wanna play it with...

Sid - Thank you homie.. You rule hahahaah

Xavierjoshua - First off I will REP and say, I like Madonna. I like the song Holiday. I actually like a LOT of Madonna songs. I don't think she's a pop icon cause she makes songs that suck. You forgot to mention that People Mag asked me the top HOLIDAY party songs FOR THEIR READERS... PEOPLE MAGAZINE asked me bro.. FOR THEIR READERS.. FOR THE HOLIDAYS! I am done replying to you now.

El Presidente - "if somebody wants to play 50 cent all night, god bless them, I just won't show up"

WORD UP!! Could not agree with you more homie. DJs SHOULD be themselves and play what they want. AT THE SAME time, when I am asked "What r u doin tonight?" I say "I'm workin" yes.. "I'm workin" WHY? CAUSE ITS WORK!!!! Its not PLAY. I don't get to play ONLY what I want. I wish I had it like that. I am not the only person in the room. People come to dance. Like someone said earlier. I did something with deep dish. There were all house fans there. I don't really play house. WHY they booked me.. shiiiiiiit I dunno. But You think im NOT gonna take the money and do my best to make people DANCE and be happy? Your wrong if you think that. I did my BEST, got paid and left. THAT IS WHAT WORK IS! So what I am saying... it's a job dudes.

Here.. Since some of you seem to think I am a good DJ I will give you my formula. Since I stuck to this my WORK career went up and up.

part 1 - Girls...

There you have it. That's it. Girls rule. I like girls for many reasons hahaha But the bottom line is they are VITAL to a dancefloor... Unless your at Rage (gay club in LA)
What, are you gonna play onyx, big daddy kane and have a sword fight? Its almost 2007. In LA at least (and I think most everywhere) girls in their 20s make up nightlife. They don't know that shit. Old school hip hop to them is Biggie. I was playing Special Ed and a girl walked up and asked "Hey, are you gonna play any hip hop?" To entertain myself I said "Like what?" She said "Ummmm I dunno like some J lo or Puffy" THIS IS WHERE WERE AT PEOPLE! And this happens AT WORK!! I am WORKING for a promoter who PAYS me to make people LIKE THAT CHICK HAPPY AND DANCE. So that's my job. If I wanna play my music I do it at my own club or at home. So, I focus on the girls. Now THIS is where the being a GOOD DJ kicks in.. For ME, I could play Fergie for her or J Lo. And I know she would be thrilled. I also know the radio and every top 40 club plays those songs. But I chose MADONNA.. Why? Cause I LIKE MADONNA! And I know SHE knows it. And I know she will still dance. Now I did my job AND made the promoter and myself happy.

part 2 - Majority

This is actually part 1.2 BUT majority rules. HOPEFULLY you don't have a sword fight on the dancefloor (all dudes) and the door guy is letting in 1 guy for every 2 girls. If that is the case its allllll part 1. But its all about the genre. You wanna make the MORORITY of people there happy. I used to throw on a record I have never played and then sit and COUNT how many people came on the dancefloor (PAUSE) and how many left. I would then gauge my next song based off the genre of that record. I just want the majority of the floor dancing, not leaving or sitting down. You make the place go NUTS and dance and scream, you ask for a raise. There you have it.

DJJOHNNYM - Spinbad is one of the ILLEST of ALL time to me. He made what is STiLL the greatest mix CD ever made. If you don't have it you are sleeping. And guess what? Its all 80s (Madonna is on it). Its so smartly done and creative it makes me want to quit and cry. It made my arm hairs stand up and it STILL does AND its MAD OLD. He is also one of the funniest dudes I ever known and does not get the shine he deserves. But WORD UP Johnny M. Spin is the illest! Also do NOT sleep on DJ Eli. EVERYTHING Eli makes is hot, and DJ Craze is still the greatest DJ who ever lived to me. I got to see/meet him the other night here in LA. W O W is all I can say. That dude is not human.

DJ Kagen - You sound like the girls at the opening of Missy - Gossip Folks. Here are the lyrics
"Yo, yo yo move out of the way
We got missy elliott coming through
Girl that is missy elliott she lost a lot of weight
Girl I heard she eats one cracker a day
Oh well I heard the bitch was married to tim and started fucking with trina
I heard the bitch got hit with three zebras and a monkey
I cant stand the bitch no way"

You don't know ME nor does your girl and I don't think you know my ex either. I won't go into details, cause I myself like to keep my personal life, PERSONAL but you have no idea what your talking about and should prolly stop. It's passive words like this that start rumors that are HURTFUL to other people. I am just very happy I don't live my own life like that.

Bottom line I am a DJ. I said this before and will say it again. I am no "GREAT DJ" I am just a DJ. A REALLY lucky and blessed one at that. I use Serato to the fullest I can. Does that make me a fake DJ? Not to me. I dug for years, I scratched (sounding like shit) till I had calluses on my fingers. I paid my dues and worked HARD for where I am. No page 6 LIE will ever take that away. So keep talkin, keep hatin and I will keep jumping outta bed at 6am to try a mix I just thought of that will hopefully bring joy to a dancefloor and make my friends go "AWWWWWWWWW SHIT!!!!!" That is my job and I love it.

DJ Sniffles 9:17 AM - 17 March, 2010
In regards to AM...... I'll say this. I've PM'ed hima few times, whether it be trivial questions, advice, or just something random, and no matter what I got a response and even conversation. Sometimes it'd take a day, sometimes it'd take a month but he never not repsonded (double neg). It'd be cool if he was around now that I'm doing music and getting the minor success I'm getting because I know I'd get an honest opinion from him as a tastemaker and not as someone who completely follows their crowds demand. There are mad djs/producers I hit up with my music for an honest opinion and I get replies from very few. AM was cut from a different cloth as far as just a person, regardless of DJ profile, social status......

RAP (rest and party) because I doubt he wants to rest in peace.... That'd be boring

Again, you can't FORCE somebody to BE HUMBLE.

So WHAT if he doesn't thank his forefathers?

Like I said, MJ was the ABSOLUTE BEST in basketball, and didn't give a RAT'S AZZ about who came before him.

Everybody expected him to be a Role Model, but he's not LEGALLY bound to do so.

It may be MORALLY CORRECT, but who's to judge morals here?

I mean, who is REALLY taking him seriously when he says, "He's the best?"

Are you?

Leave that dude alone man,

When you devote this much time to another individual, you're giving them POWER over YOU that they never had.

To be truthful, Pauly D is RIGHT. The HATERS are who keep his name in the lights.

I dont think that is an accurate depiction of Jordan. The greatest of the great always have had role models, that's what helps then get to that status....

But Pauly D is like Heidi / Spencer....people love to hate em. I am people.

See my previous post.

Exactly...Jordan didn't need to be friends with people on or off the court, but he did respect the game and was a student of the game. That elevated/motivated him enough to be one of the best if not, the best.

Current version i.e. Kobe Bryant.

I have yet to see Pauly actually succeed or fail on the ones and twos live, on tv, or on the net. But I gotta say as far as dj'ing is being represented in mass media he's doing so much more for us than those cats did in "Master of the Mix". They were making us look BAAAAAAAAAAAD. Pauly's show hasn't really showed him throwing down on the decks. It's more him and his crew chasing @$$. No turntable train wrecks involved. DJ'ing might actually be on a pop culture come up cause of his new show.
DJ Remy USA 1:12 AM - 23 April, 2012
DJing has been on the pop culture come since AM kinda made it famous for the poeple who never knew what DJing was before. Pauly D is just pop culture and happens to be a DJ
