I Cheat And Am Proud Of It

DJ Rumors 4:35 PM - 7 March, 2010
How many of you guys either "cheat" with another dvs program, or even use other programs and dont mind letting others know? Any advantages or disadvantages to it?
danielthewave 4:53 PM - 7 March, 2010
hm nearly all my friends use traktor .... and wenn i'm at their house the traktor stuff is running so i'm used to spin with that .... And i got an audio8 which i lend along with other stuff....

But i 'wont call it "cheating"

cause my "weapon of choice" is and will be serato
but in the past it gave me the advantage that i can show up at my friends club-gig and he can go on the restroom and gives me the headphones like "spin some records while im out for a break" :P

While I definitely agree, i'm sure Rumors is just having fun with the thread (at least I hope so)

Personal preference, I use Serato, I'm always open to trying other platforms, if only just to have a grasp on it if the situation arises that it's the only thing available. However I'm in no rush to actively seek out other solutions right now.

Hardware though (CDJ's, turntables), when new things come out I usually can't wait to try them, just to see what's going on.

im a wavie and proud i can mix by ear but prefer the easyness of using the waves waves
thebuttonfreak 9:05 PM - 7 March, 2010
I use autoloop. That's a cheat.n And if the tunes I'm playing have strange bats or swing I use the bars at the top to get in the ballpark before I use my ears to get it on.

+1

not to come across as a dick, but i gave up on trying to get anything useful out of these forums. i keep in touch privately with a few people have met here, but serious discussion is kept off here... and i even sent a message 5 of the forums mods and employee's ....not one of them could be assed to respond.
dj_KaSE 11:12 PM - 7 March, 2010
assed to respond? is that a form of sexual offerings to get someone to answer you?

=P

BTW, with the stability issues of the 1.9.x series, I would gladly have switched to another DVS if it were more stable.

Not interested in ALLEGIANCE really, just wanted to know if the hardcore SSL users ACTUALLY used other dvs programs and dont have issues with it (and vice versa).

^ Yes, lighthearted question, nothing DEEP.

I don't see auto loop as cheating. Well, maybe half way. For instance, it's great if a song has a fucked up intro and you want to extend a little bit of it by looping so you can mix it easier.

It's funny to see cats who learned with extended intros who cannot for the life of them mix a song without an extended intro.
Dj-M.Bezzle 2:21 PM - 8 March, 2010
ill admit i have difficulties with songs that dont have ANY extra beats, the songs where the rappers talkin or rapping right away and runs his mouth all the way till the tracks over...im not really a scratcher but if theres no instrumental and no area with enough instrumental to loop i really dont know any other way other than cue pointing to the end instrumental of the playing track and brining the new track in (assuming the track playing has enough instrumental space) or slamming it on on beat.......im open to learn any other techniques cause its one of the boons of my dj existance

well bezzle if you spent as much time practicing your transations as you do posting on these fourms then it would be second nature to you

Dj.Mojo 3:38 PM - 8 March, 2010

At least you arenĀ“t forced too much and can browse forums and do private internet stuff (no porn).
Hell I can even download music while at work :-)
Dj-M.Bezzle 3:52 PM - 8 March, 2010
well most sites here are blocked i lucked out with SL......im acutually personally responcible for most of the vid sites bein blocked as apparently me streaming high def episodes of king of the hill and the simpsons and previewing music was eating up more total bandwith than the entire support dept combined......their happier with the pure text or my recent endevours lol
RogerRabbit 4:20 PM - 8 March, 2010
I have used/tried otsdj, virtual dj, deckadance, djdecks, mixxx, tracktor and mixvibes. Some of these softwares are definately superior to the others. While the rest offer the same stability and a comparable feature set, so it's  just matter of personal preference.

Afraid to let people know : Nope.

Advantages of using several dvs's:
a) competence on different softwares

b) ability to  sub for a friend if using a dvs different from your default

c) testing various dvs softwares exposes deficiencies in other competitors.

d) may highlight a new set of features not currently present in your default dvs which could be benificial to you djing style.

e) testing different dvs can be a good way to troubleshhot your laptop & soundcard(none sl1) reliability.  I have used dvs systems and experienced problems such as crashing/sound card issues. I was given told by tech staff it's everything(the os, the drivers, faulty soundcard) besides their software. I knew it was not my laptop or soundcard because software X runs without a problem while theirs didn't. If I only had one dvs I was I would have unnecessarily upgraded my pc.

Disadvantages: None

I used to use M-Audio Torq Faithfully..... Until the company stopped providing support to the DJs.... Its seemed like M-Audio was steering away from the DJs and moving their effort on there other products.

I've always played with Serato but never considered using full time until a few months ago when my calls to M-Aduio about a software problem with Torq went unanswered.

+1 That's exactly what mainly happened with me. I used Torq for about 2 years, and had the same issues you're describing. NOTHING at all like calling SSL Support here. My other issue was simply that I felt they're program was more beneficial to the guys who were using Xponant or for the INTERNAL mode guys. The program really didnt "keep up" for me in External mode like SSL does. I still use it though, just to change my setup for a while...I mean..hell I did pay for it..may as well get something out of it. LOL.

True, I still rock the Xponenet every now and then at the Radio Station where space is limited....

My Connectiv Kinda collects dust....

Although I must say, Pro Tools is the best thing that I could have gotten out of M-Audio.

i have no interest in using traktor or VDJ as SL handles everything i need and more BUT i do wanna give mixemergency a look for video, i hear good things and dont think it would be a bad idea to take it for a test spin

alot of people are leaning that way.

Final Scratch actually approached us and wanted us to teach its use exclusively.

but just as soon as we were about close that deal, the school went in a different direction... so I used it for about 3 months...
dvs in general has come so far!

when I started on video, like many VDJ was the only option.
but a few months into video, SSL came along with VSL and Ive never looked back
Wazo 9:09 PM - 10 March, 2010
i was a torq guy for ages too, but left them and got banned from their forum cause all i talked about was how shit they are.

I have to say I agree on this.

I used ME for the first time live at a club gig last Saturday. Shit was great, smooth and awesome little extras that vsl doesn't have. Number one being the recording function.
Joshua Carl 9:10 PM - 10 March, 2010
