Im in the market to buy a new dj bag. Ive searched all the threads regarding DJ BAGS. But Im only interested in a few. So if you own either one can you please tell me what you think about the bag. PROS and CONS
I have a jordan backpack that I got from champs. The outside of the bag is really tough and I like it. But the inside is a different story. It ripped in 3 different places.
I carry
my laptop (Sony vaio 15 inch) and the charger
Shure case with 4 shure needles
Sony MDRV 700 dj headphones
UDG serato record case
Staton Uberstand
And a AC Adaptor to power up the SL1 box.
THE SL1 BOX DOESNT FIT IN HERE NOR DO THE CABLES.
I want a dj bag that fits everything listed and more. Maybe even my 56 mixer (I have a road ready case already but dont mind carrying it in my backpack once in a while)
Ive narrowed it down to the following bags
Monocase 365 DJ Pack
Headliner Stashpack Backpack (Black)
Namba bag
equnit
Thanks in advance. Really apprecaite the help

I have a GigSkinz bag that is DOPE. The inside big cavity holds a 56/57/empath/vestax mixer plus has two small pockets, one for the SL1 box and one for an external HD. There is a zipper pocket on the inside that holds a dozen or so records. There are pockets on the sides of the outside of the bag for headphones, needles, adapters, etc. There is a big pocket on the front of the bag that holds your laptop... and lastly a zipper flap for cables, etc.
Plus it has a shoulder strap AND backpack straps AND a sturdy handle. I would totally recomend it to anyone!

It works as a backpack too, just a pretty large one. But if you want a bag that will hold a mixer and all your other gear, it's gonna be that big more than likely. I can get damn near EVERYTHING I need for my shows in it.

Ok, so in the stashpack I have:
15" laptop
15 or so records
HD-25 headphones
External drive
SL1
Needle box for shure needles
Power supply for SL1 and laptop
All necessary cables
Sometimes I take less records and chuck a trigger finger in.
Hope that helps.

I have the 15" EQ unit RECON P.A.C. www.equnit.com it fits all the gear I need and then some.
My usual kit would be MPB 15", Uberstand, SL3, Technics Headphones 2 CV's/3LP's, CD Wallet and RCA cables.
I also use the bag for daytime use and for Game Day OP's to tote my MPB, OP's binder and work stationary.
Before I used a few different bags over the years, but by far this has been the best bag for me.
My only gripe is that if I were to tote my 57SL around more then I should have got the 17" bag. that way I could conformably carry the 57SL, a few CV's and extra bits.
And I do want a custom SKYN that has a zipper and large enough to hold 6 LPS/CV's.
The 15" fits the 57SL fine (a bit snug) and still have storage space.
Hope that helps you decision.

i'm kind of wishing i had gotten the 17" equnit bag instead of the 15" myself but it's an exceptionally well put-together bag.
I had the Headliner before and it was great too - i liked the cable management things but it really needed some side pockets. The Roadpack plus by headliner looks awesome, but they're completely out of stock for god knows how long.
if you need a bag that fits a mixer as well then you should definitely be looking at a 17" bag - something like the Big Nambla or the 17" equnit...

THis helps a lot. THis was the type of info I was looking for. I was looking at this bag last night on the net. They have the 17 inch bag but it only comes in a medium. Wonder how much of a difference it is between a medium and a large.. But I will most likely go with this bag. Thanks for the info.. Do you have pics?

Thats for the info on the Headliner bag. I didnt know it didnt have side pockets.. Thats a big plus for me.. I want to eliminate one full bag (thats the bag with all my cables). Like I said before I might end up going with the Equnit bag 17" size medium. The namba bag looks decent just something about it is making me say no.. This bag doesnt have side pockets either.
Whats the deal with the skins?? Can I get them customize?? Or I can only get what they have???

If I were to start over it would be the 17" EQunit Bag. Only if I was to transport the 57SL more, wich I don't.
The harnes size the major thing. I'm 6'1" 280lbs so I needed the XL size. They sent the large and it fits just fine. So a medium would be plenty for an average person.
As for SKYNZ, I think you have to get what they have.

elaborate on the specs of this one..what you can have inside
15" laptop, ttm57 mixer, headphnes, needle case, external hard drive and necessary cables, the bag itself has 2 huge zippers going all around, the one in the back is the one that has the laptop compartment, it has a velcro strap and the laptop doesnt sit all the way on the bottom (in case you drop your backpack or something) in that same compartment theres another small packet where u can place documents or something, on the front zipper the space is about 6 inches width so there you can fit the ttm 57 and cables, headphones and stuff, i place my 57 with a towel around it, but thats just me.
now,all the way in the front theres a smaller zipper, inside it has another little zipper for another small compartment (maybe like 7x7") and theres also a net where you can have stuff visible, i put my shure needle clear tube case, and next to it, it has a compartment for a usb drive and 1 for pens, 2 for credit cards, outside it has 2 nets on the sides and another 2 little bags sitting also on the sides but on a higher level than the nets, you be surprised what you can fit in that backpack.

UPDATE ON THE BAGS.
I got the equnit today.. I must say it doesnt fit as much as I would want it to fit.
I have now purchased the headliner bag. I will compare the two and see which one I will keep. I got the roadpack plus bag. I have a UDG serato record holder that I love using. It doesnt fiwell in the equnit bag. I can zip it but I feel like Im forcing it to close.
ANYONE WITH THE HEADLINER BAG, do you thing this UDG record holder will fit in the bag?

I have now purchased the headliner bag. I will compare the two and see which one I will keep. I got the roadpack plus bag. I have a UDG serato record holder that I love using. It doesnt fiwell in the equnit bag. I can zip it but I feel like Im forcing it to close.

who you callin a dj bag muthafucka??? lol
i use the headliner stash pack. it's pretty good. i kind of feel like the inside net pockets will break eventually. plus when you actually put stuff inside the internal pockets it's hard to zip the thing together.
all in all it's pretty good though...the pocket on the top kicks ass

I was going to order the same bag, but I notice that Roadpack plus bag had the extra side pockets. The more the better.

Gotta chime in for the Headliner bag, just for the simple fact that it is completely muthafu*kin' weather proof. I've been caught in so many storms in NYC & all my gear has never seen a drop.
Not firmilar with the UDG stand, but if it's not collapsable, it will be a tight fit. The headliner has so many different compartments, the main section fills up quick with a laptop, control records, power cord, uberstand & 3 - 5 assorted vinyls. (if you don't carry some actual records to your gig, you're playin' yourself)

This bag is HUGE!!! And Heavy!!!! It's a nice bag, but once you put a mixer inside of it, it will kill your back.

There is a big pocket on the front of the bag that holds your laptop... and lastly a zipper flap for cables, etc.Plus it has a shoulder strap AND backpack straps AND a sturdy handle. I like my Headline bag, it fits everything nicely, but unfortunately, it don't fit the UDG record sleve. It fits regular vinyls, but not with that UDG sleve. :(
I also own a Swiss Army bag I bought at Staples. This bag is SICK!!! It fits everything I ever need to carry. I gotta check to see if it fits the UDG sleve, otherwise, everything else fits perfect.

Thanks to all who submited their feedbacks on their bag.. My headliner bag will be here on friday.. I will take pics and show you what bag fits what.. If I knew that none of the bags would fit that UDG record holder, I wouldnt of bought the UDG record holder.. Its good for what it does, but its bulky for most of these bags.. I fit it perfectly in my Jordan bag (i'll take pics for you guys) but I want more space and a tougher bag..

+1 for this. (except I don't live in NYC)
I've never really understood the point of the UDG record sleeve thing. Are the normal sleeves not good enough? I've been rocking the same CVs for ~3 years and the sleeves are still fine.

well the UDG is like a case for them right, like you can put CVs in the UDG case and put that in a backpack and not bend and break your vinyl

My Headliner Stashpack has a small rip along the zip on one of the mesh pockets, but I live in New Zealand and it's not worth sending it back over!

I only see it being in issue if you're carrying around rare cv. I wouldn't care if my blacks broke but if my diplos, marble purps, a-traks, etc did I would not be happy to say the least.

I own the headliner stashpack
15 mac book, power supply
20 or so records
keys, cell phone, usb sticks
headphones,
SL1
external backup drive
ortofon needle case
microphone
cables
Ipod
This thing is rugged, and well built, semi water resistant, nicely padded
not super cool looking, but its a great bag.

Bro - This is a perfect bag- Here's what I can fit in there:
MBP 17" Unibody
Shure Wireless Mic with the Case
Korg Kaoss Pad 3
Computerstand
Headphones
All the wires
And there's still some room left for whatever small stuff I need to put in there.
However, it's hard to carry as a backpack with all my gear in it.

and the inside is the smoothest brushed suede youve ever felt.
It also has that Addiction/americaneagle/tattered look to it.

From personal experience, and from horror stories Ive heard over and over
I would never put a mix in anything but a mix case or a pelican case.
its too big of an investment, and the control center of everything we do.
so many times (even this weekend) Ive see mixers come out of bags, and just
NOT WORK...or though its not terribly important; be all scratched and beat up.
Sure, it sucks having a bag, and a mixer case...but having a 800.00 paperweight
is worse.

The Headliner Roadpack is supposed to be bigger and can fit a mixer but i've never seen it in person.
I recently just took a good look at my 57 and can't believe how beat up it's getting - lotta scratches and even a big dent in the side - thank god it's built like a tank...
that being said, i think one of my next purchases is going to be a decent hardcase as i'm getting a little worried about taking my gear out...

they said they were waiting for a reply back from me on what to do..i was like? ummm if i didnt reply wouldnt it make sense to just go ahead with the order ? i dunno.
im hoping i get this bag this week. if not...i move on an put those guys on BLAST.
im just waiting so i can compare the two and see which one is a better bag..

So I just got my ROADPACK PLUS from headliner and I gotta say, ITS A ROOMY BAG..
I will take pics tonight. What I love about the bag is that It has 2 big pockets on the side for cables and or headphones.. This particular model came with a carrying case for a mixer.. I myself will not put my 56 in here.. Not with all these stories that Ive read.. I'll just keep my 56 in my road ready case.. The only reason I would put my 56 in the case is if Im djing at a club.. The mixer fits perfectly in the bag.. I will take pictures tonight. SO FAR, I LIKE THE HEADLINER A LOT MORE THAN THE EQUNIT BAG.. I bought both just to compare..

So here are my pics of the two bags..
pic90.picturetrail.com
The first one will be of the EQUNIT BAG (I DO NOT LIKE).
PRICE $184.99 SHIPPED.
pic90.picturetrail.com
Bag is big and tough. Definitley a lot of compartments FOR SMALL THINGS..
It came with a blank skin.. I dont know how to put pics on it and it looks nasty. Its a good thing you can flip it around.
pic90.picturetrail.com
On the other side of the skin, it has these little slots for pens.. LIKE 50 OF THEM.. Dont see why they did this.
This is the first pocket.. I can fit my UDG record holder. But UDG makes the bag wide. So you're pretty much forcing the zipper to close.
pic90.picturetrail.com
Next I put my needle case, serato box and my headphones in along with the UDG case.Fits ok but again your forcing the zippers. The serato cables (4 rca and the USB cable) could have fit in the bag.
pic90.picturetrail.com
This picture is showing you how much I could zip the bag up. At this point I was seriously going to force the bag closed. I DIDNT WANT TO BREAK MY HEAD PHONES..
pic90.picturetrail.com
With the UDG and everything else in there, the side pockets are pretty much useless. They can fit papers but no cables, or a mic.
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
The next pocket is where the LAPTOP and the STATON STAND would go.. The bag came with an extra bag for the laptop. It has velcro on the bottom of the bag.. I DONT KNOW WHY. Nothing else fits in here but the laptop and the stand.
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
For those who want to take their mixer with them you can. But dont plan on packing anything else. Your mixer knobs might get fucked up. I put the 56, serato box and cables and the power cord to the mixer. THE UDG RECORD HOLDER IS NOT IN THERE..
pic90.picturetrail.com
This is what pretty much fit in the bag.. I could have probably added a cable or two. but thats it.
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
This is what didnt fit in the bag after everything else was in there
pic90.picturetrail.com
Up next is the HEADLINER ROAD PACK PLUS BAG.. This bag comes with an extra bag for the mixer. Be aware that there is no pading to protect the mixer if you're carrying the bag by itself. MEANING OUT SIDE THE BAG..
PRICE $205.00 SHIPPED
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
Straps are tough and it has a strap to go accross your chest
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
This bag has so many pockets to pretty much put what ever you like. I didnt have my cable bag with me or else I would have stuffed it with the cables.. So I just packed it with whatever I had. The out side of the bag as a pocket but some one can easily take out whats in there.
pic90.picturetrail.com
Serato Box and NEEDLES
pic90.picturetrail.com
Here is a pocket where you can fit cables, adapters anything. And it has 2 velcro straps for cables.
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
This pocket right above the serato box and needles can fit my headphones and serato cables (4 rcas and USB)
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
This little pocket isnt deep but wide and can fit your IPOD, cell and your charger.
pic90.picturetrail.com
In this slot you can fit the UDG and the STATON stand. In this slot you can fit your mixer with the bag if you wanted to, but NO UDG
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
In this pocket you can fit your staton stand or magazines (I have the serato manual in here).
pic90.picturetrail.com
Your laptop is right behind it in a smooth suede material. And it has a velcro to keep it nice and tight.
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
On to the SIDE POCKETs. Both pockets are big. You can fit you serato box, needles, headphones, laptop charger, cables and more. One pocket has 3 pens slots and Buisness card holder. I put my laptop charger in there.
pic90.picturetrail.com
I RAN OUT OF STUFF TO PUT IN THE OTHER POCKET. But I was able to put the 56 power cod in there and still have room for more.
pic90.picturetrail.com
Now on to the Extra bag for the mixer. You can put what ever you want in here. Doesnt really need to be for the mixer. Its a tough material but NO PADDING.
pic90.picturetrail.com
Theres a zipper pouch in this bag. If you you're using this for the mixer then nothing fits in this poutch. But if you have other things in there then yes something fits. I just didnt test it.
pic90.picturetrail.com
pic90.picturetrail.com
Hree it is with the 56 in it. There is no space for anything else in this bag.. If you decide to use this bag for the mixer, I suggest you buy or make the foam thing for it.
pic90.picturetrail.com
THE TWO BAGS TOGETHER.
pic90.picturetrail.com
Bottom line, both bags are made tough. The EQUNIT bag is cool but doesnt fit a lot. And out of the 5 people I showed the bag to, all of them said it looked nasty. Especially if you have the plain white skin showing. The headliner is a biger bag and fits a lot. I used the UDG as an example because I want to carry the UDG with me at all times. The equnit didnt fit it. and I knew I was going to break the zippers if I forced a lot. SO THER YOU HAVE IT.. If you have any questions PLEASE HIT ME UP. I am returning the equnit bag tomorrow (WED). I love the Headliner bag. GOODNIGHT.

Theres a difference between CAN and WILL NOT.. And I refuse to pay that 100+ (I was low balling) in shipping. The bag is not WORTH IT. Besides too many complaints on the bag..

Personally I wouldn't put a mixer in a backpack either ... but to each their own. I don't think the TTM would fit in my bag if it did you couldnt throw the uberstand in there.
For your need I would go with GAV-PE-1412R by Gator
www.gatorcases.com
Probally pricey and not a backpack
however meant for laptop and projector so lots of room to meet your needs.
Telliscoping handle and wheels like luggage
Saves you back

Do you guys think the Headliner Roadpack Plus is a bit too big? Is it worth to pay the extra $60 for the extra room on the side and the extra mixer bag? or should I get just the Stashpack? Anybody got a stashpack? Please let me know how it is. Thanks.

i would say that i dont use the extra bag, but the extra room is definately cool!

I have the Stashpack and I love it. It fits everything I take to a gig with ease. I even used it for uni for a couple of semesters and it fit most of my books and laptop.
I guess the side pockets would be pretty handy, but the layout on the Stashpack is pretty nice.

I have the roadpack plus and I love it. It fits everything I want it to fit plus more.. I can already tell I wont use the mixer bag, but will def use the space. You cant fit a bunch of extra cables everywhere. If you're looking for space then get it. I didnt like the stash pack because it didnt have the side pockets. If it did, I would have bought the stash pack.
