the mobile scene here is really active, but actually more biased to small events such as school parties and corporate events... So for any normal gig with lights I would charge around no less than $275, for just music, around $180

DjSykes,

I think we are all willing to share our mixes, but if history is any indication, DJs make for extreme critics! We tend to ask for perfection all the time from other DJs, so a snippet or full length mix, speaking for myself, I get "haterade" from DJs when it comes to my online mixes, but I just take it as... "1 of 10 say I suck, but 9 of 10 say I'm great"... go figure. I'm still being booked and that's all that matters to me.

If you want to check my stuff out, go for it, just remember that the mixes aren't for other DJs, they are for my potential clients (not other DJs), who are looking for a DJ that can play a variety of genres and help them in making their event a success.
I'M A MOBILE DJ, NOT A MIXTAPE OR CLUB OR RADIO MIXER, just a mobile DJ that offers clients the best services backed with a little bit of "talent".

As for your comments about beat sync, scratching, juggling, etc., I've heard it all, so just keep the bad comments to yourself. If any of you can do all the genres flawlessly, then let me know so I can check you out, too!

Ok First I want to say that I wasn't being critical about any one Dj In Particular I was Generalizing...I know I have more then my share of trainwrecks so it would be kind of stupid of me to sit in any type of judgement. So if anyone got offended by this then I sincerly apoligize that was not my intention. There should really be no reason to take any of what I said about beat synching or mixing for that matter personally...Second I fully understand that as Dj's we all have our own way of feeling and mixing our music...what I mean by this is that very rarely will any 2 Dj's mix the same set of music in the same way...All I really wanted was to see and hopefully LEARN something about how we as Latin Dj's mix our music in different parts of the country....lets face it Latin Dj's deal with more then one type of genre. So I just wanted to hear how that was done with the different Genres...as for Dj's being critical about other Dj's all I have to say is that Dj's arent the only ones...Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one...Im sure we all have heard this before..
DjSykes 11:42 PM - 4 November, 2006
Dj Chris Deza..

Thanks for the link you have some great mixes Im certinally learning alot about how different genres can be mixed loved the nerengue portion of the mix...agian thanks for the link....
djivanlopez.com 6:07 AM - 5 November, 2006
DJSykes, I believe you miss interpreted my words and I should of seperated my comments, but... I was simply stating that most DJs, especially mobile DJs, like myself, don't have the same talent to "flawlessly" mix one genre in particular, since we deal with more than one genre of music. (When I began back in '95, I could mix house like a 'mofo', but after having to learn many more genres, well....)

Bilingual Djs in particular have it twice as tough (reminds of a line from Selena the Movie, where her dad's says that we have to know about John Wayne and Pedro Infante <or something like that>, trying to say that it's hard to please everyone), being a bilingual DJ with customers that vary like the colors of a rainbow.

In my case, I've had customers hire me primarily because they saw the different genres I can play on my website. I've had others hire me because I can speak two languages and then there are others that liked my old and new school knowledge and wanted that for their event.

So again, I'm with you on learning about what others are doing.

If anything, we can all improve on our skills 1% at a time.

www.djivanlopez.com is my site and proud to be able to offer almost all genres under the sun.

Thanks for the clairification Dj Van Lopez...And I agree with you completely about latin dj's having to deal with not only different genres, but also with us having it twice as tough....At the club I dj at I have a very diverse crowd...Not Only do I have to play Latin music, but I also have to play some Hip Hop, House and techno...lol..some nights it's easy to read the crowd, Other nights, well you have been in the bussiness long enough to know what I mean...I have been to your site and you have some very decent mixes...I still would like to hear some mixes from some of the other Dj's that commented on this Discuccion...Peace...
