Problem # 1 - I have a very large library of MP4 h.264 + AAC that I used tag and rename to write the artist/title tags. I noticed now using Serato v 1.9.2 that once I modify the tag in Serato I can no longer see or edit the tag in ID tag editing program (such as Tag and Rename). Tag and Rename reports that there is no tag present, shows no tag info and will not allow writing new or editing. So Serato is modifying the tag info in such a way that is not good.
Proble #2 - When I try to change the tag info for a video file in Serato Scratchlive, such as the artist and I remove the file from the library then re-add it, the tag info was not saved. However it seems the queue points are saved. This is also a big concern. There are many files I like to quickly update the tag info in scratchlive but I must know it is being saved permanenty.

Hello Brad,
I'm not sure if your first problem is related but there is a current bug in 1.9.2 which won't save edited tag info.
The workaround is to use 1.9.1 to edit your tags.
Once the tags are edited using 1.9.1 then you can use 1.9.2 and still see the correctly edited info.
As for problem 1.. I would see if its still an issue when you edit your tags in 1.9.1.
Let us know your findings;)

I am afraid the problem is more serious than that. I have already seen that 1.9.2 has modified thousands of file tags and I can now no longer modify them using a tag editor. I can not even delete the tag and start over because SL has made some change to the file to corrupt it. Since you are aware of the bug can your team provide some insight on how we might repair the tag info for these damaged files?

I have not heard about this issue but I would try deleting the tag using 1.9.1.
Hopefully it will get rid of whatever 1.9.2 added to the file.
Give it a shot and let us know your findings.
If that doesn't work I'll alert the Serato mods to see if they can help out.

WIll do, jsut so you know, i started a thread on the general discussion to warn other fellow mp4 VDJs of this issue. I noted that techs are looking into it. I also have sent a damaged file to the TagNRename techs per their request so they can look at it.
Thank you.
brad

Just to give what little insight I can... I know 1.9.2 writes tag info to the file itself where as 1.9.1 wrote the info to a Metadata folder located in the ScratchLIVE folder on whatever drive your importing videos from.
I would guess this is what is confusing TagNRename.
We'll see what Serato has to say about it.

Here is a detailed list of steps to test this for yourself.
1. Take new Mp4.
--1a. I use DVD decrypter from PO DVD to generate VOB files.
--1b. I use a text file script to autoname the files using the PO track database.
--1c. I then use Any Video Converter Pro to convert to MP4 (Mpeg4 2000Kbit with 320 Kbit AAC audio))
2. Update tag from filename (I used Tag N Rename program to mass set ID tags)
3. Load into a new SL Crate (it will pull in the tag info as currently set in the file from Tag N Rename or other Tag editor)
4. Try to edit the tag in some way - i.e. add something in the comments
5. Go back into your 3rd party ID Tag editor (like Tag N Rename) and see that the tag no longer is visible, editable or even there at all.
additonal test step:
6. Then delete the crate and track from SL.
7. Create a new crate and add the file. The changes you made in step 4 (i.e. comment you added) will be gone.
!!! This shows that SL did not save the changes to the file (this is the current known bug that you can find in other posts)
AND
!!! the files are corrupt and not readable by tag editors any longer. Basically whatever tag info was written at the time SL tried to write updated info to the file, is now permanent. This info can be read by serato but no longer changable. Ever.
I am crossing my fingers that the brilliant SL techs can find not only a fix for the bug quickly but also a fix for the files already damaged.
Using Movie Batch here is the info shown for one of the files that SL has corrupted:
***********************************************************
E:\MP4s\Videos - Music 1\01 Pop_HipHop\Beyonce - Naughty Girl {bpm 099} [2004].mp4

Component 1) lppa, H.264 Decoder v.40004, Decompresses images stored in the H.264 format.

Hey deejayB,
Are you able to attach one of your files that you've had this problem with? It would be good if we could take a look at it and see what's happening. Thanks :)
