I highly doubt Guetta commands $100,000.00 for a DJ set.

Personally I think mistakes like this are unacceptable for DJ's at the 'level' of Tiesto and Guetta. Almost every noob DJ has a third CD-player or ipod on standby or has an emergency vinyl ready to recover from equipment crapping out.

The guetta video looks more like the CD is wrecked than the CDJ's.
Even with a third CDJ/ipod whatever...your still going to get the exact same break in the music as in the tiesto clip. Guettas was worse that both didn't work but even with a third CDJ, it wouldn't have made the initial mess up any better.

Tiesto actually handled the situation correctly. He swore a bit, but then hit play on the other deck and got going right away. Guetta, on the other hand, was a true failure as he again tried to play the same track on a second deck and had it fail again (as obviously it was the disc that was bad, not the CDJs). He should have done like Tiesto and just immediately went to whatever the next track he had lined up was.

I'd agree with CAW, I think we'd all have the reaction of swearing at the deck a bit but at least he just jumped straight back into the next track.
I'm guessing Guetta had nothing else loaded because he does just eject the disc straight into the left deck, there is the 3rd CDJ but if that was loaded with something you think you would just hit play on that.

Come on man it happens, who cares who you are. I had another DJ come up to me once and tell me Damn I'm a fan! I was like thanks but why? (I had gear failure) He was like "dude, you didn't even panic and played it off so well." I just get the mic like it's part of the show.
I was deejaying a school dance where my lights were pulling more electricity then the venue could handle (I had my front lighting go out 3 times) I just got on the mic and said blackout mode baby, WHAT? throw your glow sicks up in the air! (Thank god everyone had them) They just start yelling and doing the damn thing. It's all in fun.
and yeah I'm trying to learn more about power distribution.

this is a professional show, you're being paid very large sums of money
if you play in a band that gets that kind of $$$, when the guitar string breaks, a roadie is running out with a new guitar right away

I think everyone has a back up but you got to remember if a "guitar string breaks," the rest of the band is still playing. If a player goes out (or whatever happens) on us the music stops completely, you need to consider response time for a DJ. It's always faster to look at the crowd and try to reframe from showing something is wrong.

i always have an ipod plugged into a spare input for just that scenario, which has happened to me for different reasons over the years
i have a couple audio cds with the bangers on them in case my laptop craps out
i have a USB key with the serato installer, control file and a bunch of mp3s

For the kind of money David is asking for, He needs a fanboy/assistant who should run out and bring him another copy of the track... Maybe not at that moment but for later. Which brings me to another thing, All these sets are planned. In French, David says that he is unsure what he will play next, as this was the song he wanted/desired to play. Whatever happened to being spontaneous? I give Tiesto some credit, He started the next track and kept it moving, instead of making excuses.

Not hating, Just stating the obvious. If I hated David Guetta, I wouldnt be playing his tracks at the club. LOL
Point is, regardless of technical diffficulties, Us DJs who arent on the same pay scale as David Guetta are always prepared for anything that may go wrong. If you make $500 a gig or $50,000 a gig, Every DJ should be prepared for the unexpected.

Personally I think mistakes like this are unacceptable for DJ's at the 'level' of Tiesto and Guetta. Almost every noob DJ has a third CD-player or ipod on standby or has an emergency vinyl ready to recover from equipment crapping out.3rd channel ipod just in case

Both guys reaction time was unacceptably slow.
As for 'cheating' with an ipod - is having a huge gap in the music better?
jesus posers... they deserve equipment failure.

This reminds of the times we used a CD to swap out laptops one night. I had put a song on , guy goes to put his laptop up with 4 minutes left on the song, and just has he plugs the SL1 in, the battery died. His older Sony laptop normally takes about 4 minutes to boot up. I noticed the song was going into its last section so I looped it on the last verse/chorus... It all worked out. They listened to the last verse one more time and all went well...

Bootup + SSL load + Itunes Library... not just boot. It sits FOREVER before the desktop loads..

Even to load into SSL w/itunes 4 minutes is a very long startup. I've had a lot of times where I've been told to start kind of by suprise (Just finished setting up and the MC tells me to get it going) Even then 30 second startup (for SSL to be ready to go) feels like forever.

He bought a MBP for video sets, but he doesn't have his library transferred over yet (Internal HD stored music rather than external).
My Vista Home laptop is very fast... In fact, mine had shut down, and already booted up just as he got his back online lol.

C'mon guys - if CDJs were really that crap, they wouldn't be used in clubs. Every piece of gear screws up at some point, especially anything running from a computer. My MBP crashed typing words yesterday.
Maybe because they gave away a lot of players because they sold so bad at the beginning?
