Use a moisturizing hand lotion during the day, and switch to using a liquid soap in the shower that's chock-full of moisturizers. That should help with the problem somewhat (but give it a week or two of consistent use).

For a quick fix, rubbing moisturizer on your hands and then washing your hands with a moisturizing lotion soap is a good compromise between dry skin and oily-feeling fingers.

Phew... that's a lot of effort. I mean, the dry fingers do not bother me, it's just when I spin. :-(

But I'll give it a try. And the sponge. I have already bought a sponge which you use for making stamps wet. Gotta give that a serious try as well.

yall need Lysol wipes... If your gonna be liking your fingers while DJing, You need to disinfect the fader before the next DJ hops on. LOL

just a wet sponge....not that tacky crap they sell for bank tellers....that stuff will leave crud on your records like dub says...a wet sponge is just like licking your fingers...

I drink two large bottles of water a night when I spin... If I drink more then I don't need to buy a sponge, cause I'll be that sponge full of water myself ;)

I think he means that you're supposed to drink more water throughout the rest of the day, too. Keep yourself hydrated all the time, and your skin won't dry out so much.

tip of the day:
keep a punani or two in the dj box to dip your fingers in for maximum wetness.

Instead of keeping your fingers moist, just keep the records moist....that way you won't need to worry about sponges or lotions

just bring a frozen bottled water. if you feel your hands are dry, rub the bottle moist. the moist/water should last all nite.

Sounds funny, but that's also one of those things I've done in the past (not frozen, just a cold bottle of water).

I was gonna say something like that. I usually have a drink in the booth most of the night (no alcoholic) and usually it comes with a bar napkin. Sometimes I'll wet the bar nap and use that most of the night.

I always have dry fingers and have that problem, but I always thought licking fingers isn't a negative thing but enhances your set, it's like the hood version of a Jesus Pose when you are about to REALLY throw down -LOL.

But with this whole swine flu thing, maybe I'll keep a glass of ice water and some extra napkins in the booth tonight.

i just rub my fingers between some sweaty breasts on the club ho's, works like a charm

in extreme cases of dryness i go a little more south and dip one or two in the glory hole
"warning" tho, this can leave behind a awful sticky residue that clogs needles and smears cds making them un-readable

My fingers will get so dry they actually split and it hurts like a maf'c to rewind and cue. polysporin helps then

yeah sort quick works very well its the stuff the bank tellers use, i keep it in my cables case when i DJ so i know ill always have it when i need it, works like a charm.

don´t want to be a smart ass, but why don´t you ask the pros? WOMEN.
They cary all kind of mosturising hand lotions with them all the time. They have tried uncounted types of cremes and have probably five different types at home.
I always take an orange lotion. Gets the hand moist but not greasy.
Will look the name up when I am back @ home. Cost probably €7 @Douglas.

Or you hire a finger licker that stands besides you and holds out his tongue :-P

this sh** may sound limp-wristed...but I don't mind putting lotion on twice a day.... especially in the winter when it's dry as sh** outside... and go to the spa with your girl...get yourself a good massage and have them parafin wax your hands on a bi-weekly basis..your sh** will feel silky smooth and it takes off all that dead skin......

and if all else fails.. do what I do..sip vodka...and I lick my fingers if they get dry during the night and i'm trying to cut a record up.

i keep a huge bottle of hand sanitizer in the booth. I don't shake hands, I bump knuckles and they don't like it, I say hey H1N1. I also wipe down the mixer knobs with Clorox wipes before and after. I try not to lick my fingers but reaching for a sponge, wet towel or a sweating bottle can screw up your timing for quick mixing.

I never shake hands while spinning either. It's a pound or dap only. Working security back in the day, i found out drinking patrons are some of the nastiest people!!

We used to have to sweep the club bathrooms at the end of the night and pick up any leftover glassware.....the Female restrooms were the Worst!!!

haha... I'm not THAT bad, but my hands do sweat when I mix. Reading all of these posts from those of you with "dry finger syndrome" makes me realize that I am probably in the minority here. lol.

funny you should say that..its prime time and some hot chick comes up wanna hangout with me to see what im doing so i show her then she wants to do the headphone and thing going wicky wicky so i cue up the next song turns out she loves that one too (just my luck) she proceeds to push me back from the decks and get in front to dance with me so i just say hey what the hell start feeling up on her legs she puts my hand at the entrance of the hole and say go for it...put 3 fingers in this girl thats when she say her friends coming she ran to the bathroom so i proceed to cue up the next track but there was this sticky substance on my hand lol couldnt put it on my CV ran to the washroom for a quick hand wash (no misquote) so not recommended LOL

latex gloves works good, or those latext finger covers...had cream greases up my vinyl if i use it while djing.

This discussion is great! Live near Boston and these cold winter days are making my hands slip. Mostly a bedroom DJ these days so definitely lick my fingers to help but I'm the only one using the gear so... Lotion helps but I wonder how much is transferring to control vinyl.

Curious if anyone has tried Sort Kwik and if they noticed residue being left behind? Know this thread is old, but still top hit when I searched today!

I use sort kiwk. if you let it dry on your fingers a little, there's no residue. If it's a concern, just clean your records a little more frequently.

This is getting more and more important, esp. since the Coronavirus pandemic - well, if you get the chance to spin at all :-/
I would laugh if things weren't so serious for so many DJs who rely on the DJing income :(
