FEATURE REQUEST: copy clip and change stem access within that clip

King Michael Coy 2:43 AM - 6 July, 2023
If I copy a clip I want to be able to copy and maybe mute one of the stem elements and it does not affect the other clip that I copied it from for sequencing purposes

To be clearer, I have a clip with a sample playing with a voice sample, and I want to copy that to another clip but in the other clip I dont want the vocal part playing in that clip.

Hey King Michael Coy,

In the last Studio update we made it so that when you duplicate (command + D) an audio track, then you can adjust the stem settings of the two tracks (with the same song) separately. I think this is probably what you're after. So give it a go and see if that helps.

Cheers,
Logan.

Hey Logan, I've tried Command+D, but it doesn't seem to work. When I stem a section, the whole track is stemmed instead of the selected audio clip. Also, command D seems to just highlight a section of the track what am I missing?

Click on the track on the right hand side in the sequence view and then hit Command + D

Based on the search results, it is unclear whether copying a clip and muting one of the stem elements will affect the original clip. However, here are some general points about copying and manipulating clips in various software:

1. Final Cut Pro allows users to copy effects between clips using the Paste Attributes or Paste Effects commands[2].

2. Digital Performer's clip queue allows users to stack clip sequences ahead of time and apply editing tools such as split, trim, drag and drop, edge-edit, copy/paste, and more[3].

3. Serato Studio offers different ways to duplicate clips and sequences for different functions within a project organization[1].

4. FL Studio's Playlist window is a stack of multi-purpose Clip Tracks that can hold audio clips and automation clips, and can be manipulated using various editing tools[6].

In summary, different software may have different ways of copying and manipulating clips, and it is recommended to consult the documentation or support resources provided by the manufacturer of the software for specific instructions.
