Serato Sample: is MIDI Record Scratching Using a DJ Controller Possible?

BurntBuildingS 7:55 PM - 18 April, 2022
Hey everyone, I hope all is well!

There's been this burning question on my mind for some time now, and I hope someone here would have the answer I'm looking for.

When I first started using Serato Sample, I noticed that if I drag my mouse along whatever sample I have loaded, I can mess with the speed and move back and forth as if I was scratching on a real record.

This got me thinking, is it possible for me to setup my MIDI DJ controller and use it to mess around with the sample and "scratch" the same way I can with my mouse? I'm using Logic Pro 10.6 and I was able to map my controller to the "Seek' function in Sample, however this can only be used for switching between whatever chops I've made or between time divisions in the sample when no chops have been made.
It skips through the sample, instead of responding to my inputs with a scratch effect.

If anyone is aware of what parameter I can map my controller to in order to emulate scratching, please let me know! It would really mean a lot as I've been trying to do this for some time now.

Serato Sample , Logic Pro 10.6 , VCI-300mkII DJ Controller.

Thank you, have a good day!

Hi BurntBuildingS
Thanks for the question.
Sorry to say there's no automatable parameter for scratching via midi.

What I'd suggest, if the host allows it, is to route the Sample output to an audio channel and record your scratching with the mouse.

Probably not really the outcome you're looking for though and your suggestion is a really good one. We'll take it on board for consideration for future features.

Thanks
Luke.

Thanks so much! I appreciate the response. I have tried that approach and while it does work, there's nothing quite like scratching with a platter. Long time user, love the plugin! Use it in all of my music.

Take care, have a good evening
