Any females around here that have gotten crap/being treated differently for being a female dj?

Its tough to take female djs seriously when there are some female djs out there that aren't djs at all, just a marketing front to sell cds and to be some sort of pretend supporting act for other female touring artists. Names are omitted to protect the innocent :p
But that aside i've seen many legit female djs and they do very well for themselves and get treated very well. Recently, DJ Tuini came to Perth from the east and did a set at Eve even though she was pregnant. She did an awesome job.

From what ive seen crowds seem to embrace female djs more than male djs.

Yeah crowds don't care as long as the music is good- but some male djs don't think i'm any good (before my set) but after my set they aren't as arrogant. Would be cool to hear from some girls on here though

There are few that actually do the craft for what it is and not wear tight clothes showing off the goods to get attention. Look at me wearing headphones and covering my tits in vinyl and glitter.
FUCK THAT!!
hopefully you are true to the art and aren't one of those types that do it for attention and glitter.

I'm working with 2 female DJs at the BPM show this year. Etch A Sqratch is a DMC regular and will be doing a Vestax Controller One demo for me, and Short-e (not to be confused with Shortee) is promoting her www.studioscratches.com project.
I once tore a strip off of Ortofon for spending large cash to fly in Playboy DJs instead of hugely skilled DJs like Shortee, Tyra and Annalyze. We don't get hired on the size of our cocks, so why should female DJs feel the need to get half naked just for recognition? Shortee for example could wipe the floor with most people here.

I have known plenty of male DJ's who got booked for completely bogus reasons.
Booking Playboy or "model" fake DJ's is only one corner of a much larger problem that has little to do with gender.

i find the ones that discount the skill involved in scratching are usually the ones that can't actually do it.

i'm def. not that type- at all! im a skinny jean + t shirt kinda girl... i got into djing because i love music and love mixing two different songs to create a totally different one all together.. i'm always practicing and finding new music that people may not have heard together with music people know through out all genres... i just wish more female djs were not only on this thread but out there for inspiration- i mean the first time i heard about grandmaster flash... speechless.. i look up to DJ AM nowadays- not because of his celebrity status but of his song selection... i'm still very new to this but yeah- if only a dj that pushed the boundaries came along that happened to be a female so stereotypes can be broken down.
sorry for going on lol

You know what I've noticed though? Us dudes who Dj tend to respect a female with actual skills more than we do the bikini broads with premade sets, yet the one's that get posted are still pretty hot.
I've yet to see someone say "yo dude, you gotta check this Dj chick, she's ill on the cut" and then post a woman with obvious skills, but just hurtin' in the looks department.
I'm not saying any of these lady's are only getting by on their looks because they're clearly skilled, I'm just wondering if subconciously we're still only checking for the chicks with looks.

I think there are good female djs out there, and I'm sure many of them have been named in this thread, HOWEVER.. I think the overwhelming majority of female djs, especially on local circuits are more in love with the idea of being a dj, and not so much putting in the time necessary to be a good dj. It's the whole Britney Spears syndrome that many members of the fairer sex suffer from.. the insatiable desire for attention and "look at me.. I'm special" thing going on. We've all seen it.. headphones that look like they fell victim to a horny bedazzler, florescent corsets, and the omni-present hand in the air with the index finger outstretched while supposedly "mixing." I'm sure the girls that know what they're doing are sickened by this.. I can understand how it might be hard when you're not taken seriously.. but like anything else in life, let your actions do the talking, and you'll be fine.

Several years back there was a group of female dj's name 360 sound and they were bad ass when it comes to the dancehall crowd.
They played vinyl, what mad them even better, when we hired them to play in st. thomas virgin islands, there records got lost and they play with the club records and they tore up the place.
I think they could of done better with there own records since they were limited but they were on point, gangsta and sexy.
Don't know if they are still around
