Serato & Rekordbox freeze/dropouts on new laptop

Hey everyone,

I’ve been DJing for about 4 years now and recently made the switch from Traktor to Serato about a year ago. Love Serato and decided to upgrade my laptop to an M15 Alienware because I was having latency issues with my previous HP.

That said, I’ve been trouble shooting latency problems for quite awhile now and was disappointed when I started seeing freezing for 1-2 seconds on both Rekordbox and Serato. These obviously caused a dropout and I have a huge show I’m playing tomorrow which is the whole reason I bought a new laptop this week. So here’s the facts I know:

1. Both Serato and Rekordbox experience 1-2 second freeze causing drop out
2. Used a Roland controller and a Pioneer Rekordbox controller. Same issue.
3. My laptop didn’t even flinch when I ran it in top latency setting. Resource bar (the one below the time) was in the low green the whole time.
4. Drop out happens when nothing else is going on. During an hour long set where no buttons or controllers were being used, it still had a drop out.
5. Ran LatMon and was solid green across the board.
6. Literally nothing on this laptop installed except the Windows OS, Serato & Rekordbox.
7. Serato installed on the internal SSD, music saved on the internal HHD
8. I’ve already sent a ticket into support but since this is urgent, hoping to get from anyone here.
9. I’ve already gone through the windows optimization for Serato

I also have a DxDiag.txt that I can share as well. Thanks again for all the help and happy to join this awesome community!

Heat issues? M15's are known of thermal paste issues...

good luck, i too am going through the same nonsense currently.

Forgot to mention I’m running SDJ 2.3.1

I don’t think it’s a heating issue. This happens even when it’s just booted up and still cool.

Additionally, its worth noting that even though it’s freezing and causing a drop out, when I recorded the set there were no drop outs in the recording.

What temperatures r u having? After 60c you have to start thinking to do something about it. Another good thing to check are power settings to be set to performance...

Also do benchmarktest to see if it has some poor acting ram or something... Userbenchmark works quite well...

I’ll look into the temp and I did set everything to max performance already.

Not familiar with the benchmark test. Is there a software I can use to run that or how does it work?

Thanks for your input. After I get through this show tomorrow, I’m considering switching to Mac even though I hate their phones and tablets.

Userbenchmark.com... also novabench is good, it shows cpu/gpu temps during test if i remember right.

Both are free downloadable softwares, and "fast" to test ..

Startup programs have big effect on cpu behaviour aswell...

Weird that so many having issues with monster specced machnes... tNever had any issues or even glitches with lenovo y520 with decent specs, even done 6+ hour bar/club sets. I use serato/rb/vdj, also production programs etc... i also use it on heavyish gaming and everything else...

Mac would probaply be the best choice to go with djing, according serato has been made for it... just take careful backgroud studying what to get if going with that... personally i hate them too and run win stuff...
