Compressor or Limiter for powered sub woofer?

Rob Morin 5:59 PM - 13 May, 2019
Hello all... I recently built a powered 12" sub(tuba cabinet) works great, however i have read that its easy to blow them as you never really hear the distortion before its too late.

So I bought a Berhinger mdx4600 compressor/limiter/expander/gate thingy. I got it second hand, its a 4 channel model.

I am just confused on how i use it to protect my sub, I know i put the source signal into the mdx then output goes to my amp, but do i use a compressor or limiter, and is there any default way to config this?

Thanks..

I’ve never used that particular Behringer device but you want to use the limiter not the compressor! Also this assumes you have gain staged the system for how DJs will actually run the system vs how they should use the system.

1. Goto BFM forum.
2. Find max voltage for your tuba.
3. Buy limiter recommended by BFM users
4. Use voltmeter to confirm amp is not exceeding max voltage.

Why Behringer? POS! Buy a drive rack or some other better limiter.
