pioneer ddj-sb3 + DJ Pro license

I already own a Denon DJ DS1, has a DJ Pro license. Today I bought a DDJ-SP3 to practice without the hassle of a full turntable setup. Seems I need to buy a new license to activate DJ Pro... Seriously?
If there's no other solution I'll have to bring back the DDJ... Another 99 is really too much for an extra controller...

When I plug in both the Denon and the DDJ, the DJ pro license stays activated and I can use the DDJ. Will this still be possible after the 14 day trial?

The Denon DS1 is a plug & play device for SDJ/Pro So technically the device itself is tied to the license. The SB3 is a SDJ Intro/Lite controller this does not mean it comes with a license for SDJ Pro nore can you “share” the license with two devices when it’s only plug & play compatible for one (Denon DS1) however the SB3 is upgradeable for a SDJ/Pro license with purchase. Unfortunately if you haven’t purchased a SDJ Pro license the SB3 will not function with SDJ/Pro unless you have a license. Basically the more expensive Serato devices are plug & play and require no license. The cheaper devices (SB3) do not come with SDJ/Pro license as the are entry level devices.

What if I plug in my DDJ-SP1? That one is DJ Pro ready, but not with the SB3 I suppose?

No they are two totally different devices on is upgradable for SDJ Pro w/license purchase the other requires no additional purchase it’s already l licensed (SP1)

So, what is you purchased Serato DJ as a stand alone program, without a controller/mixer attached. Then you purchase future controllers. Will you need to pay for additional licenses down the rode, even though you purchased the software by itself initially?

No. If you purchase a Serato DJ Pro license it will “unlock” all Serato Intro/Lite devices for use with SDJ Pro. Basically your license will allow you to use any of the cheaper controllers that aren’t “SDJ Pro ready” compatible as compatible.

Example: Say you have two Serato devices like the numark dj2go2 and the SB3 which are upgradeable for SDJ Pro software. If you purchase a SDJ Pro license you can use both devices with SDJ Pro. You can have “multiple” devices for SDJ Pro cause you purchased a license. If you purchase a Serato device that is already plug & play compatible with SDJ Pro then you’re good to go. But just an FYI the cheaper Serato devices require a SDJ Pro license which is why it’s always best to go for much the more costly controllers like DDJSR2 or above.

Example 2: I purchased a DDJSB2 however i knew in order to use it with SDJ/Pro i needed a license. So now that i purchased the license I can now unlock “any” controller that isn’t SDJ/Pro ready. The controllers will automatically work with the software. I recently upgraded to a Pioneer DDJSR2 Which is SDJ Pro ready so it doesn’t require a license as it’s a plug & play ready device. Make sense? Hope that helps clear things up.

Make sure to download the newest version 2.0.1 made for DDJ SB3

I already had a license since it was scratch live and been using dj pro on my sz2. Do I need to purchase it again to use my sb3?

What product did you have with Scratchlive? Your SZ2 is a plug & play device for SDJ that does not mean you purchased a license. Your “product/SZ2” is what unlocks the software this does not mean your SB3 will do the same they are different products of hardware. The SZ2 is just plug & play ready for SDJ. Your SB3 is not which still requires a license. The SZ2 device is tied to the license. Your SB3 is not plug & play compatible with SDJ w/o a license.

The SL2 is a soundcard for Scratchlive/SDJ as a plug & play device so the product itself is the license but only for that device.

would use the sl2

You don’t have a license. You have a piece of hardware that allows you to use serato for free. If you purchase a product that requires the paid license, you still have to pay for it.

none of the gear you mentioned requires an activation key - are you thinking of a dvs activation with the SZ2 or something?

Not sure I agree with that unless you haven't bought new hardware in the SDJ era.

Because you can’t afford SDJ software?

I remember Serato saying the price of the hardware included the software license when Scratch live first started. So If I Bought a SL 4, Rane SIXTY TWO, SL1, DDJ SX, DDJ SZ 2 individually I would have access. That’s 5 different accesses at premium prices. A number of other DJs Feel the same way. You can’t tell us we are all wrong. If that’s the case then the blame is on Serato for how they rolled the service out. It’s obvious from the amount of comments about it.
How Jay-Z say? ‘Men lie, woman lie, but numbers don’t” (referring to the comments for those like myself who are upset)
I may take my Pioneer SB3 back as well because the info provided by Serato wasn’t well understood/rolled out. When I bought my SB3 I saw it set upgradable to SDJ Pro and I was like I’m cool I already have it. I’m good. But now I no I’m not. It’s not about the price it’s about being mislead. We are all here as Serato DJs because we support the product and believe in it. Yeah we can go to Virtual, Tracktor, Or whatever but we believe in Serato. #DJPainPoints #ItAintRight ESPECIALLY IF WE ARE BUYING HIGH END ITEMS #ImJustSaying

Jeeze already, if you have that much damn gear what is on a one time purchase to cover all low end stuff you may use?
All of the EQ being compared is stuff that was north of $500 when brand new! And you roll up with a budget controller and complain about a $129 license?

it has to be done bro, save yourself the troubles, if you wanna wait around till serato has a 50% off serato dj pro then do that if money is a issue but it will pay itself off in no time.

Traktor and Rekordbox, if you buy a piece of gear with Rekordbox included, you just get a license key and that's it.
Serato, some gear requires a license, some doesn't. It's fairly basic, but you find people purchasing a license when they bought a plug and play controller and others (like this thread) feeling entitled to using Serato Pro on a Lite controller just because they own a plug and play device.
