I was hoping for an SP1 mk2 (SP2?) as an upgrade for the SP1. I was hoping it would be lighter with color pads.
It looks like that dream may never come to fruition. It also very much looks like pioneer totally overlooked serato and just concentrated on Rekordbox DVS:

Personally I can't see myself getting this. It kind of looks like a glorified launchpad. I can't see myself using Rekordbox and I wouldnt even midi map it with serato. I'll be sticking with my SP1.

very interesting, I wish I could get my hands on some Rekordbox Vinyl so I can give it a shot I see on their website they have some nice white ones but I have no idea where to get em.

Strategic move. Or does it just expose the serato tax lol

Unless you are especially savvy in midi mapping, my guess is the experience would be less than the current SP1 with SDJ....

I was just thinking the same. Make it sound like it's clicking on a button then pad, and bam!

I find it odd that it's geared towards RKB, but it's showcased with the S9 mixer. Things are getting more and more confusing. I know the S9 can be used for rekordbox, but I'm sure no one bought the S9 (Serato Mixer) thinking, "man this will be a great Rekordbox mixer!"

Of course not, at the time of the release it wasn't mapped for Rekordbox but now it is.

I think it'll be solid if mapped to SDJ.
I mean you could have all 8 hot cues, 4 saved loops and 4 flip edits on just 1 of the pages. No more of this switch around and holding shift like with the SP1 now....
It has potential but Seratos way of midi mapping sucks so yes it won't be easy but possibly worth it in the end.

my question is since you have sync, why cant someone just put a play button and a knob for pitch and a nudge+- on a controller that fully featured.
i'd love to see that so you could dj with a serato/rkb mixer for soundcard and then use the XP1 by itself with no tts or cdjs.
i guess it should be able to be midi mapped but i guess its a money thing to not have basic transport buttons on these mixers. Otherwise ppl wouldnt need TTS, CDJS, XDJs or full midi controllers.

I think they still keep the jogs on there because someone will complain. LOL
Novation Twitch was the only one that I can recall for serato that ditched the wheels and they did it along time ago too. They have a play button.

it would be cool if the control strips could be used to control pitch although you still need a nudge +- since it would be hard to get it spot on but really w sync, you could get close and sync.
too bad it doesnt have more than 1 knob, i drink too much for touch strips not to get wet sooner or later

Does anyone know if you can get the colors to match the cue points in serato? Then it might be worth consideration

doupt it since its a Rekordbox add on not a Serato accessory

you can, you just need to figure out the midi values to send to the controller

Serato's mapping is pretty poor and doesn't allow you to work out control pages without hacking into the xml file.
Personally, I think this thing is both way too big and pretty excessive.
If you're using it with the S9, do you really need 48 pads when you DJ?

^ Yeah for me, my bread and butter are cue points and echo out. Maybe some loops / rolls
I'm not looking to do some fancy tone play shit. Same goes for most working DJs

mapped yes close but there are some new things going on with sdj pro.. midi
when you hit a cue point the pad color gets brighter as in feedback when you hit the pad and when the cue is occupied the pad color is dim.
i cant get the color of pad to follow the color when you delete a cue...
there is no instant double when you hit load 2 times.
i havent mapped tone play....
dont have time to play with it at the moment....dj wedding season

Thanks DJ_Soo I appreciate your help wish serato would be open about this I understand many people would probably fuck up there controllers and then would want serato to help em out that probably why they don't give us that info but it would put Serato above all its competitors.

Well, they'd have to find the file and know how to open or edit it, and Serato has an easy feature to reset to defaults.
A lot of people gravitate towards Serato because it's relatively straightforward and not everyone wants the complex remapping features that something like Traktor has.
I've always likened Serato to iOS and Traktor to Android.
iOS is much more intuitive and snappy but that's partially because it limits the user into utilizing the software the way the designers want it to be used. Because of that, it's a little more elegant and user friendly but a little more limited. Additionally, the hardware is designed to work specifically with the software allowing for greater ease of use.
Android allows for a great deal more freedom and customization, but at the cost of a much greater chance of user error. Likewise, the sheer amount of choice and customization can often be overwhelming to the average user leading to a less stream-lined and tight experience.
Reokrdbox is kind on the in between of the two, but it really lacks in usability.
That said, I do wish Serato would give us more poweful mapping allowing for things like pages, shift functions, and being able to map controls to multiple functions or multiple controls to the same function (I believe there are a few controls that it can be done with, but there aren't many).

You nailed it on the ios vs android comparison you also bring up a lot good points if I would be able to see my default s9 midi xml I sure I can crack some for codes out of there but for know I'll just trial and error.I don't want to try rekord box I want to stay a loyal customer to serato but hopefully rekordbox does not take serato out the game.
