Distorted sound in offline player and Cue problem

Wilber 10:42 AM - 20 June, 2017
Hi

I've recently downloaded Serato 2.5 and when ever I play a track in the offline player it sounds very distorted and plays a bit slow. I'm using 2x Denon 3900 with the Rane SL 3 and whenever I press cue on the CDj the track stops but it doesn't go back to the beginning of the track, I must do it manually on the software and this is a bit very frustrating. Whenever I calibrate the threshold jumps to the far right also.
I'm a bit new to Serato so a little help would be very appreciated on this matter.

Im using Windows 10 2,2GHZ B960 processor
4GB Ram
750GB HDD
Rane SL3
Denon 1600 mixer
2x Denon 3900 CDjs

Hi I hate to inform you but the problem is your processor as your machine is under qualified for SDJ 1.8 or above. SDJ 1.8 and above versions all require an iprocessor (i3, i5 or at best i7) machine. You can prob use any 1.7 version but afraid you will have to upgrade your computer if you want to stay current with new versions as they require more CPU power.

No Scratchlive is discontinued software and an iprocessor is not required for Scratchlive as the software uses less CPU. A MacBook Pro is the best option I recommend a 13" or 15" MacBook Pro any 2012 or later Mac would be plenty for Serato DJ.

Ok so my best bet would be to donwload Serato Dj and get a Macbook. Would I be able to scratch with Serato DJ as I am a scratch DJ?

And what difference is their between Serato Scratch Live and Serato DJ?

Serato Scratchlive is what started Serato and you can use Scratchlive if you like I believe the last operating system for Mac that supported it was Yosemite so any OS above that might not work. Serato DJ is more advanced w/more features but requires a better processor as it uses more CPU.

As for "scratching" you can scratch with both softwares however Serato DJ first became compatible with controllers then later came DVS Support which is what Scratchlive software was known for (turntable/cdj/mixer compatible). Scratchlive on the other hand was not a controller based software as you needed a Rane hardware box to connect turntables/cdjs or DJ mixer)

Here is what has changed since Scratchlive has been discontinued. Watch this video clip it explains everything. Keep in mind the video is old from 2013.

Basically ScratchLive is what put Serato on the map w/different developers that no longer work for Serato. Serato DJ has replaced ScratchLive and took over with a new development team. Scratchlive was the lighter software and runs fairly well with old computers as it didn't require as much CPU. Serato DJ on the other hand requires a powerful computer as it has loads of more features. Sometimes new isn't always betterπŸ˜‰ Hope that helps

Here's the good news Since you already have a Rane SL3 is compatible w/both softwares so once you get your Mac it will work perfectly fine with Serato DJ as it supports newer operating systems you just need to make sure you download the correct drivers for your hardware (SL3)

Ok thank you for the advice and quick responseπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ In that case I think I will stick to Scrath Live 2.5 with Windows 10 for now. Ive noticed the CPU usage wasnt thay much after Ive optimized my PC. A friend of mine told me I must use Absolute mode that will solve my problem with the cue points. Ive also noticed when calibrating the threshold goes to the far right. Ive changed the wires but nothing seems to change. Any help with that??? They say in the manual it could be a grounding problem on the mixer or cdjs, but how do you ground a mixer or Cdj? And the offline player has a distorted sound when I play a Track. Any help with that will also be appreciatedπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

All good questions. I don't think there's anyway to calibrate a CDJ unless I'm mistaken. I always thought calibrating was for DVS purposes only. However I have heard of odd behavior with cdjs/Serato. Are you making sure the CDJs are connected to the "line" inputs of the Serato box? And making sure the connections on mixer are connected to Line as well. I suggest trying relative mode in Serato this allows you to be faster and having "play from start" and "play from first cue point" checked in your setup allows you to take advantage of relative mode.

This is going to upset you but the last operating system for Windows to support Scratchlive was Win 8.1. So on that note Win 10 may have issues w/Scratchlive as they no longer update bug fixes for Scratchlive. So in the end eventually you will have to update your laptop to stay with current software and technology. You can read more about the system requirements here scroll to the bottom and you'll find Win 8.1 is fully supported. I'm surprised you are actually having luck with Win 10 and Scratchlive. Cheers

The distorted sound could in the offline player could very well be the fact the software is having conflict with Win 10.

An i5 or i7 would be perfectly fine. Preferably an i7 for better performance. Lastly make sure you are analyzing all your files before you play them it allows the songs/tracks to load quicker as the files data has already been written.

Ok i did analyze them alreadyπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ If I have any further problems ill contact youπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Here's Relative mode explained it is the mode that about 90% of users use. It is like the "new school" way of DJ'ing compared to ABS.

Hi

im using a windows 7 laptop now with 3GB Ram. Scratch live works well now with it. Sometimes i hear some audio dropouts. And ive noticed that tracks that have that lock on the far left of the playlist doesnt seem to display info on the virtual deck and it only ahows n balck virtual deck. Ive read the manual and the say thay tracks with that lock os read only files. How can i fix this problem so that the yrack info can show on the virtual deck?
