Hi there
Can anyone give me a bit of advice please?
I’ve been running SL2 on an HP Windows laptop, using the Scratch Live software (now on version 2.4.4) for about 3-4 years without any problems at all.
However, the last couple of gigs I’ve done, I’ve had a problem with tracks stopping partway through without any warning. Sometimes this is accompanied by the waveform in the main display window petering out as well, even though the whole track and waveform have previously been loaded into my serato database without any problem. It seems to be that if I restart the track it will often stop at exactly the same point again. I was using CDJs as controllers and there was definitely no connection problem, and the same thing continued to happen when playing in internal mode.
I suspect this is more likely to be a problem with my laptop than with serato, but it’s not massively old, and I have looked after it quite well, and stopped in getting clogged up by keeping stuff on external harddrives. So before I rush out and buy another laptop, I just wondered if anyone had experienced that same thing and knows a sure-fire way to fix it please? Don’t want to risk looking like a bell-end again!
Thanks in advance

Hi Laz219, thanks for this... This has been my starting point, so I'm deleting all my serato files, tidying up my drives, reinstalling the software and seeing how that goes!
Cheers for your input.

I've seen this before where files from an external drive aren't able to load quick enough, and it sounds like you have your files stored externally?
How long have you had the drive you store your files on?
Hi Kane D - thanks for the response.
Yeah the music is stored externally, and I've had the drive about 2 years, completely problem-free. but I've just decided to move onto a newer one with less stuff on it, to see if that helps.
I'm interested in what you say about stuff loading from the hard-drive... This problem has usually happened with tracks that I loaded into serato ages ago, so all the metadata, waveform etc. is already there, but do you think there could be a problem with the actual music data just simply not being read off the drive fast enough as the track is playing? If so, I guess using a newer, less-full drive would help?
I have now realised that the connecting cable between the drive and the laptop is a little bit didgy too, so am replacing that.
Do you think both of those measures should nail it?
Thanks very much for your help!

Just an FYI maybe try to upgrade to a SSD ext drive for example I have a Samsung T3 and it's been super solid. The connection is very sturdy and not loose like most externals. Also it's super fast for read/write data. May want to think about it. Good luck

Or another solution is a thunderbolt/FireWire ext drive. Assuming your using USB which isn't always a reliable connection for ext drives.
