I am not too sure what to make of the controller market any more. For all the stuff that have been released, no one has gotten the size build right. It's either too big, too heavy, too small, too rubbish, too toyish, too this or too that. Don't think I will get another controller unless something comes up in leaps and heaps...

I get that, but I still am excited for it. I get excited over DJ equipment, period. Doesn't matter who makes it :)
I hope this is around the price of the DDJ SX. I want something like it but since I'm a fan of split-cue I'm not quick to hop on Pioneer products that I can actually afford.

Hey LJ,
Don't be fooled by what other people are saying, we are run completely separate from Numark. We are owned by inMusic which owns many other Music brands besides Numark. We are DJs making products for DJs, and we are carrying the tradition of Denon DJ; High Quality Build, High Quality Sound and gear that feels great to use.
We are really excited to show the world not only what is being discussed but all the rest of what we have been working on the last few years.

Standalone with screens and SX look and feel is the ideal replacement for my ageing SX.
If the price is around the SX £800 mark then I'm on board. I said I'd never get another Denon DJ bit of kit after the DN-HD2500/X900 combo. It sounded great but the buttons all broke.
Possible sale of the Kontrol S8 and SX for this! Hope you've thought of it all when putting it together...

From what I see it's ticked every box on my personal boxes for a controller.
Metal construction
SX sized
SX layout
DVS input
USB standalone (Amen! At last!!!)
Duel screens.
USB-A port on the back (possible keyboard for searches?)
Good spacing on the mixer.
New look to the screens (a bar on the screen instead of a rotary when dialling in FX is great)
Start/brake dial
Things I'm a little hesitant over is the mirrored design. I could get used to it but would have preferred it non-mirrored but that's just personal preference.
Viewing stacked playback waveforms would be nice if the screens can toggle it.
I think I can see a "LOAD" button under the browse knob. Pushing the browse knob is, in my opinion, the best way to load a track (but that's just me). Scroll & click without taking your finger off the dial is pretty universal on controllers and HID (Pioneer DJ CDJ/Native S8) and didn't like the separate load button on the NV.
Build quality of the buttons. Every Denon DJ unit I've ever owned lost the print on the buttons and many buttons fail to make a contact after a year of use. The HC1000S has 20% of it's buttons that don't work on first press and that was also the case with the HD2500. let's hope that's sorted.
Other than that... I'm excited to see it.

Hold the phone on that as it was actually a "LOAD PREP" button I spotted.
There could still be a push to load option.
Master out tucker away in the top corner and not ext to the browse encoder like on the SX (I've grabbed this a few times in a dark club) - Win!
EQ on the booth - Win!
Sampler on a rotary and not in the middle of the mixer (hello SX!) - Win!
Peak input LED on Mic channel - Win!
I'm not a fan of the blue LED ring around the platters so hope that can be turned off or dimmed in firmware.

Official announcement should be on Monday. Just scroll up a bit.
And what's wrong with another controller? Other companies produce more than one controller. Newer models to replace the old. Different models for different price brackets.
Pioneer just announced new cdjs and a mixer. Not many people are complaining about that.

I'm definitely going for this Denon. It's quite big but the quality is there (being metal) and only a hundred more than the SX2 for the added extra of standalone and screens. I think the SX2 would need a price drop soon (nor that they will).
I don't see this as a Numark really apart from the screens but can see any controller will have an NV feel to it unless it looks like a Native Instruments device.
There's too many plus points to ignore this cobtroller... Although size would be the biggest I think.

For me I have 2 primary controllers that I use to gig with depending on the size of the gig. My small controller is a Den MC6000mk2 and my large controller is an NS7. Both are paired with the AFX. I'll definitely have to give this controller some consideration though.

See this is Numark trickery the NS7 is PLASTIC!! just has thin steal plates screwed to the plastic... metal only adds weight what other denfit does it have? paint scratches and chips much more easy than plastic. so being metal is never a selling point to me.
i agree you get alot here with this unit. but if support and build quality is anything like Numark utter dog shite its another bad point.
Don't like the jog wheels, and XLR booth output WHY? 95% of booths use TRS so thats another converter you will need.
Numarks button layout i also don't like i.e pitch and play/cue.
think the screens look bang on tho and fact you can use mem sticks. apart from that the SX2 is better in every way for me.
wait for more reviews but it is on the fence, Wilks if you get one i may have to come and have a look before i decide hehe.

I noticed on here that there seems to be Key Shift mapped to the pads where he moves up the octave by hitting the performance pads.
If that's the case then it's an interesting addition. There is Key features on there but if they are mapped to the pads like that it will make an interesting performance and effect.

How old is the SX2 now? Coming up to two years in around March time?
I think the original SX was out around 18 months so we're possibly die another.
No prizes for guessing screens will feature on it. Possible USB too with Rekordbox branding? It would have be in the RX price league though or it would detract from it.
Pioneer's next move will be interesting as if they made a MCX8000 device then the price would be around the £1200 mark.
If I was them I'd be sweating a little. There is a buzz created behind this ano Pio have found a challenger at last with cash behind them. It will be harder to justify the Pioneer price tag with a rival unit at £899 that (possibly) does more. Let's just hope the build quality holds up.
Some people will always buy Pioneer as there is the brand loyalty and wanting to look 'cool' but for people like myself who's become a bit jaded with their controllers recently and yearn fot something different I think there's a good enough reason to switch.
By sticking an RX into an SX case would be their answer but a price point would have to be met that compromises other products in their range. This Denon unit provides a lot of what the SZ does at 50% less. It's just size that makes the SZ appealing now (maybe duel sound card) but this is big enough and how important is the DJ switchover to the average jock?
I think with this, whether or not you like the unit, has put Pioneer in an awkward pricing position for its current and future models (that want to rely less on Serato and more on their own ecosystem).
Serato just got a new BFF with Denon and Pio may not like it.
I think the original SX was out around 18 months so we're possibly die another.

I hear ya Wilks it's why it's on the fence for me at the moment also i jave never owned a Pioneer controller yet so it's not a to look cool for me.
SZ with screens would be amazing but i bet near £2k
And SX with screens and Rekordbox i bet more SZ price range.
So yes Denon at £899 will sure turn some heads.

I'd say they'd have to be 7" really to get anything useful out of them for touching. Library searching would be handy on a virtual keyboard but to plug a keyboard in would be more beneficial.
That would probably be an SZ sized unit as well.

I noticed on here that there seems to be Key Shift mapped to the pads where he moves up the octave by hitting the performance pads.
If that's the case then it's an interesting addition. There is Key features on there but if they are mapped to the pads like that it will make an interesting performance and effect.
That's a new performance mode unique to the MCX8000 when using Serato DJ. This unit comes with a Pitch 'n Time DJ license and using this mode allows you to choose a cue point (holding shift - pressing one of your cues) then that cue point will be mapped across the pads in transposed keys. The root key will be lit up and then you can move up and down octaves with the parameter keys.

Actually in the process of setting my DDJ SP1 up for this using VDJ since you can remap basically anything. Its an awesome idea and yeah flame me if you want for using VDJ but I don't have this unit and that's the quickest way I know to actually see if i can use that feature before getting the unit, lol!

Length should be 75.5 cm or 29.7 inches
As a comparison, SX/SX2 is 66.5 cm or 26.2 inches. SZ is 87.1 cm or 34.3 inches wide.
In other words, this should be almost as deep as a standard DJM mixer/SZ, and wider than SX but less than SZ.
Final estimation is: 75.5 x 43 cm or 29.7 x 17 inches
Weight I have no clue yet.....

I think they (being Denon) feel they have those sizes covered with the MC6000Mk2, MC4000. This particular controller is a direct assault on the DDJ-SZ/SX2 as the size is in between both with similar feature sets.

This 8000 looks curious. I wonder if it has file size limit with Engine. I know with Rekordbox and the XDJ-RX (their standalone) the file size limit was 10,000 songs. Also, does anyone know if the 8000 is going to have the same mic volumes as the 6000mk2? The mk2 doesn't have zero kill faders. I had to buy attenuators to soften the level. Then I went Pioneer who understands the concept that ZERO means ZERO. I like Pioneer quite a bit, but I personally was NOT impressed with the XDJ-RX. The thing locked up at random. Not sure if it was an issue in general, or if I just got a bad apple. Either way, I wasn't waiting around to find out. I would love to get more info on this 8000 ... weight, dimensions etc...

I bought this as a backup in case a controller went down and it lives in the boot of my car. I paid £150 for it from the DJ Worx sale and it's great for the money. It's got four USB ports on it and can plug in a keyboard to search. There's a hidden tray underneath to store a HDD in it so it's truly a standalone and one that can scan the tracks too (unlike the RX that needs Rekordbox to get anything useful from it).
It's plastic and cheap but for emergencies... BRILLIANT! If there was a pro version of it then it would be great as these new Gemini/Denon/Pioneer units use the software to scan BPM etc where as this doesn't need it. You can use software but it's just to speed up the process as it's painfully slow.
When the embedded Windows devices launch then the truly standalone (no scanning on a computer first) versions of these will become big. SDJ would be inside it (for those that want to use it).
This Denon is perfect for my SX replacement so can't wait for it to drop.

The screens seem a great size for the size of the unit. Where would your compromise have been? Making the controller bigger to see more screen? They aren't stacked so it's not like you mix using them. I know I wouldn't want to lose anything underneath the screens or make actual performance controls smaller. It's a screen giving information at a glance so not to be stared at but complimented.
I've been through every fine detail I can from all the videos and pictures. Apart from the screen using what is a similar size there is no other Numark DNA about this design or construction.
Denon made metal controllers for years and have even released controllers since their aquisition by InMusic. Buttons, pads and encoders all have a traditional Denon look that's they've been turning out for years. It seems people are just quick to compare them to Numark now they are a sister company.
Screens will be standard soon on most controllers over £400 so will every controller now be considered a clone of an NV just because they did it first? It's a natural progression and a vision of the future. Pioneer will be next with an SX3.
The Novation Twitch had performance pads first. We don't say "it's got Twitch pads" on any controller we come across now!

No they say SX pads haha, the case design and jogs are very Numark but yes now more details and better pics and videos they have used denon knobs ect and so they say Denons dacs not Numarks so that's all good. I'm much more sold on this unit now all that is left is to try Wilks when he gets one haha. May only downside will be finding a case as I don't like flightcases. The lighter the better. It's probably just me then but when I hold my finger over the top of the photo to omit the screens I just see an improved SX (but mirrored).
I'll definitely be getting one so will give you the heads up when I do. Interesting it runs time code down the ethernet port for syncing light shows etc.
I wonder if they bring their own software or if Arkaos/Resolume Arena will be able to read it's format? If it's standard SMPTE and not proprietary then it will be interesting for some jocks that want to experiment.
From the Resolume manual: resolume.com
Resolume Arena can sync the playhead of a video to external SMPTE timecode. This is an often used technique to synchronize audio, video, lights, pyro and lasers during show moments or DJ intros. Also it's used a lot by VJs touring with a DJ to sync pre-made visuals to a specific track. Resolume Arena can listen to two SMPTE inputs simultaneously, so you can sync both tracks in the mix.
SMPTE is just an audio signal that sounds like 400 pigs screaming. Resolume can interpret this sound and use it as a clock. Every part of it sounds slightly different. Our ears can't hear this, but Resolume can. So when you skip ahead in the SMPTE signal, or play it faster or slower, Resolume knows to update the playhead accordingly.

With SDJ only the two outside channels work for DVS. Then the middle two channels work in SDJ for the decks on the mcx8000.

With SDJ only the two outside channels work for DVS. Then the middle two channels work in SDJ for the decks on the mcx8000.

If that's the case I'd reconsider my interest.....still $1200 is a steep price for me. I don't think I can justify spending that much on something I've only been doing a year, no matter how much I want to advance it. Let's see if the street prices bring it down a little.

Actually the retail is $1299 ($1300), but the MAP might be lower. If it comes in at a $1000 or under, I might consider it, but that's my cutoff unless some awesome reviews come back from the first batch of units to go out..

Actually, since I don't use serato i've been thinking that since the other two channels will not be used because ill only be using this in standalone only, this would really be a waste of money. Why buy a four channel standalone controller when 99% of the time ill only have access to two of the channels plus any other features that will only be accessed using serato?? Do I do gigs and events playing with other djs that use serato? Yes, but why spend the extra money to make it convenient for them? I now know that the Pioneer XDJ-RX is for me. All the bells and whistles are included in standalone mode. The extra money I spend will be worth it to me. Also, the Pioneer is smaller and I like how its not mirrored.

....now if all the channels were assignable to Engine I may have gotten it but they aren't. The two middle channels are strictly, meaning ONLY, for using Engine in standalone, while channels 1-4 are ALL PC/Line.

Like I said earlier, nothing special. Just another basic controller.......... Hope um wrong but things aren't looking that way.

Comes down to different DJs needs really. I'm quite certain if it's a well built controller it will sell very well. There are a lot of DJs out there that purchase 4 chnl controllers/mixers and only use 2 chnls. I'm really excited to see Denon jump in the SDJ game since Vestax is no longer in the picture.

That's exactly how I used my Numark 4Trak, 'cept Mic was on Channel 3 and whenever I wanted to do brief live edits I'd use channels 3 and 4, but still I only use 2 channels 99% of the time.

I'm not that sure Denon MCX8000 will sell very well....
High end and upper mid range controllers are dominated by Pioneer. I'm quite sure joung djs will prefer buying a Pioneer controllers instead of a Denon one juste because of the fame.
The Denon MCX8000 is a cool piece of gear especially the standalone mode but now that Pioneer tries a build a strong eco system with Rekordbox, I'm not sure the Denon/Engine/Serato combo is strong enough. With Numark Dashboard unit, it's even less clear to know what to choose between a Pioneer sx2 + Numark Dashboard and a Denon MCX8000...
The real questions are
- "Does the standalone mode with Engine is really a killer feature for a controller" ?
- "Will the difference between performance mode (Serato) and standalone mode (Engine) be too high to finally choose one or the other because of dj worflows (playlists management, track search...) ?"

I guess we'll have to wait and see. I will say that for this mobile DJ, that stand-alone feature is very crucial. That's what got me fixated.

I agree. I'm selling my Vestax VCI 400 to upgrade to this. I do hope that the Engine 1.5 version is implemented well. It will be great to have the standalone option as a back up. IMHO the only thing better would be to have a STABLE embedded Serato DJ controller. Or better yet, bring back Scratch Live as an embedded version in new controllers. I would like to see a future upgrade to the Denon MCx8000. I want a MCx9000 with Serato embedded, direct drive platters and LED touch screens. I'm looking forward to NAMM 2017!!

My thing is why haven't they launched Engine 1.5 yet, at least in beta for some people to try out.

It's probably not ready yet. The MCx8000 launch is an important launch for both Denon and Serato. Denon has been quiet (almost absent) in the DJ community except for the 4000 controller. The last version of Engine was not implemented well so this version needs to exceed expectations. Denon needs a successful high end controller. Serato DJ has some issues with random audio drop outs and jerky wave forms. Serato needs to provide a stable SDJ version. Both companies need this launch to be a success.

I hope the MCX8000 is successful enough for Denon to produce more DJ gear. Can I get an sc4900 & 3900? Anyone? Anyone at all?

Yes! I need an update to my SC3900s. Maybe a SC 3900mkII with an all aluminum enclosure and a high res touch screen. I could even go without the built in cd drive. Just have Serato time code built in, USB standalone mode and keep the direct drive platters of course!

I honestly still want to buy a set of SC3900's but I haven't heard too many good things about them in terms of longevity.
Seriously, anyone want to make another platter CDJ? Anyone? Anyone at all? I'd love to have one. Take my money. Take all of it.

Had mine for a few years and still performing like new.

I've had my 3900s since 2012 without any issues. They work great! Its the next best thing to Technic 1200s and you don't have to worry about needles skipping or someone bumping your decks. Denon is known for great build quality and I hope that legacy continues with the MCx8000.
