Hello all, I have DDJ-SB and Serato DJ and was wondering if I purchase a DDJ-SR can I use the same software or I have to purchase a new license?

Thanks much! Also realized the DDJ-SR comes with serato dj as well so my question was pointless, I think I have a better one. Is the SR the best possible DJ controller that does NOT require external power? USB power only (I'm a mobile DJ.)

I have own/owned the VCI300 VC380 and SB SR SX SZ lol
I am not sure about other brands but the SR was working good for me. No issues.
But my personal belief, controllers should always be powered externally so it does not tax the USB line.
This was the cause with the VCI300. Having the external power supply helped.

I can understand that, my focus is to be as mobile as possible that's all. Have you had any problems using a microphone with the SB, I have a very low level and I'm using a Behringer XM8500 so I know it's a dynamic mic. Only thing is I'm using an XLR to 1/4" connection because the SB doesn't have XLR inputs. Is this my problem? Or is there some mic level adjustment in Serato I can try using?

I have always used an external mixer with mics.
I know there were issues with the DDJs series with low mic volume.
I know you are trying to be as compact as possible, but consider buying a small mixer.
You can plug in the SR and the mic on it and it will give you extra control and boost.

Thanks, am looking at the usb powered version here. And then perhaps a larger powered mixer for home use.

Or get a externally powered controller that has more juice for the mic. That ends up being the most compact setup, right? 5w only goes so far...

Just make sure you have the latest firmware for the SR. I have used it there are issues with the firmware and the controller is very buggy for that reason. But I'm sure if you update everything will be smooth.

Hey D-audi. I know that is probably the best bet but let me explain. I am trying to be fully mobile and be able to play anywhere anytime, beaches, outdoors, just pull my laptop and controller out and boom. I will not always have access to an outlet or ac power. Sometimes sure, it would work. So basically if I keep this controller (DDJ-SB) and still go with DDJ-SX2 when I'm ready to upgrade instead of the SR then I will be covered if I do have ac power, but if I don't I will have to use the SB. This would be OK but I suppose my ideal combo is an SR and a SX2. Thanks alot for your input.

I guess this is more for personal use? Which is now I understand why all has to be USB :)
