Cheers. I heard alot of this when I was out in Sunnyside Queens and picked up a few records from the charity shops (thrift stores) but don't really have any idea what I'm looking for. Interested in learning more.
I checked a few of those other Oscar De Leon links and they're nice.
Joe Arroyo y la verdad
This is nice aswell.

it's called salsa, bro. when you're done with it, you might want to expand to merengue and bachata. that's just how it is...

Would you lot class man like Al Di Meola and the Mangione Brothers as Salsa? This may sound ignorant but my ''spanish'' music consists of people like this and Tanya Maria and a few other I suppose more commercial names.

I've got a few Tito Puente records I've found in charity bins over the years but I never really liked them. I should give them a second listen.
Cheers guys. I'm going to hit up my local collectors store at lunch time and see if they have any Oscar de Leon and Ray Barreto etc

Not sure why I don't like Salsa but I just don't. Maybe since I only grew up with Cumbias? Who knows but Salsa just does not cut it for me. I guess I'm in the minority. I used to play Salsa a lot too but could not stand it. That was back in the early days. Oh well, not putting it down but I see a lot of Salsero posts here. I'm from Central America, go figure...

LOL. Central America is big on Cumbias. I think even more than Salsa.
I'm an L.A.Mexican and I learned to like Salsa when I started working in a club that converted to Salsa back in the early '90s. I grew up listening to my Dad's Mexican Ranchero music though I never really liked it much. I learned to DJ Salsa and had been spininng it non-stop in clubs until last year.
It seems Caramac is looking for 70's Salsa, which is mainly Cuban, Puerto Rican and a select few from Colombia. There was an incredible explosion of exciting music, mainly out of New York during this time. There is a compilation on Fania Records that has some of the biggest hits of this era.
