How do you get a good grip on the vinyl?

Likwid 4:08 PM - 4 May, 2006
I find that when I'm tryin to cut, the vinyl is slowly sliding forward from under my hand. What do you guys do to get a good grip and prevent it from those minor slides?

I know some people lick their fingers periodically...
DeezNotes 4:18 PM - 4 May, 2006
You can use that finger-tip moistner stuff. They have different brand names in different places. I rarely use it though... maybe cause I can't find mine, but it works.

I've also found that cleaning your records with Gruv Glide helps a lot too.
dj solomon 5:35 PM - 4 May, 2006
lick your fingers like a quarterback with a football, then get yourself some good slipmats and maybe the plastic underneath!

: )
thenewyorkgiant 6:00 PM - 4 May, 2006
gruv glide def helps.
Likwid 6:06 PM - 4 May, 2006
Wouldnt a finger moistener make your fingers more oily and make it slip even more?

I'll have to check out that Gruv Glide.
kicko 6:46 PM - 4 May, 2006
wel i find some certain hand creams work, nothing that is oil-ish
or greazy. What you really want is clam hands, that swhat i find is best. Ha maybe wear mittens every 10 mins. or so
DJ Irv 6:48 PM - 4 May, 2006
lick your fingers. That's the way a tuntablist would do it. The biggest example is Synister formerly of the X-ecutioners.
djzoo 7:20 PM - 4 May, 2006
yeah, get butter rugs. I hear they are great.
Likwid 7:21 PM - 4 May, 2006
At work, we have those plastic things that go over your fingertips, I'm not sure what they're called, maybe a thimble since that's what we called it in monopoly. I found that putting that on gets your fingertip a bit sweaty and you can get a good grip on the vinyl.
specie 8:01 PM - 4 May, 2006
i use that sticky spray that reciever's used to use to make the ball stick to their hands more.

but with the changes in technology i started using tacky reciever gloves.

sometimes i just dip my fingers into my chronic jar and whoa.

DeezNotes 2:52 AM - 5 May, 2006
You ever smell your fingers after licking them?
barrymccockner 2:59 AM - 5 May, 2006
I usually have someone like Katie Holmes standing next to me with no panties on, and I just insert about 3 fingers into her "magic triangle area" and bam! I never lose contact with the vinyl. It was awesome when her water broke!
barrymccockner 3:08 AM - 5 May, 2006
use SORTKWIK, you can find it at any office supply store -it's inexpensive and it is not greasy at all. Don't be nasty and lick your fingers- especially if you're sharing a spot with another dj -he/she probably doesn't want your nasty mouth germs all over the cross fader N-A-S-T-Y!!!

Licking your fingers is nasty, and imo it looks stupid when a dj is up there licking his fingers over and over. Unless you're licking the magic triangle area (freshly washed of course) you shouldn't be licking and djing.
DeezNotes 3:10 AM - 5 May, 2006
Doesn't it get all white and crusty by the end of the night?
barrymccockner 3:50 AM - 5 May, 2006
nope.never been an issue.

- or are you talking about the magic triangle area? if that happens, she needs to go and see a gynocologist and you should probably look into taking some antibiotics...
zomanno 10:00 AM - 5 May, 2006

Yeah, all you have to do is go to a lift station in your hood and get a bucket full. Works like a charm.
nik39 7:18 PM - 5 May, 2006
Whats a "lift station"?

Is sewer slime ... slime "comin straight from da sewa"?
Julls 7:21 PM - 5 May, 2006
A lift station has sewer mains (pipes) that run into it, and then it pumps the sewage to a higher elevation so that it can make its way to the treatment plant.
nik39 7:22 PM - 5 May, 2006
Ah, thanks!
Julls 7:24 PM - 5 May, 2006
Here, this might explain it better than I did.

Quote:
Lift stations collect wastewater from the gravity (flows downhill) collection system and pumps the wastewater through pipes called "force mains" to the treatment facility. Each lift station has a storage tank called a wetwell that holds the wastewater until it is pumped.

SMDH 8:06 PM - 11 June, 2016
I think I found the solution, there is a product called Sort Quick that bank tellers and people who count money use and it is for moistening the finger tips for dry hands, I had that same issue until I found this product. You can get it at Walmart, Office Max, or any store that sells office and stationary products.
